The Shield of Kylorin.

Magus Amber Kylorinskin, Lord of the Amurites, Stood on the steps leading to the courtyard in front of her Palace. Behind her, The Stone Archway painstakingly built by slaves to replace the old wooden façade built by her Great- Grandfather Thomas. In the Archway, heavy, Bannor style, doors barred the way. In front of her, at the bottom of the Steps, stood a regiment of Soldiers. Drawn from all walks of Life, they all had one thing in common. Their magical skills were far superior to that of most of their compatriots, who almost all had a meager spark. Each wore a Tunic and a short sword, and were arranged in Small Squads, each self sufficient, having at least one Farseer, one Fire Starter, and one Healer, as well as some other smaller powers. Beyond them, sharply contrasting the ordered Ranks, A crowd had gathered to hear the Magus speak and see the soldiers leave to rid the Amurites of those who prayed on them.
“Shield of Kylorin!” the crowd immediately silenced itself. “Soldiers of Amur! You have been chosen for one purpose alone! To Serve Amur and Protect her people as Kylorin did. You Stand together as the first Amurite Regiment formed since the Fall of Mulcarn, and already, you have A TASK! Go Forth, and Do your Duty! Do your Duty for your Mothers and Fathers and Brothers and Sisters. For your Wives and Husbands and Childrens. Protect them at all Costs!”
And with a smile she raised her arm straight forward, palm facing out, saluting them. They all saluted her, and, synchronized by the Mind Speakers among them, marched silently out, the crowd cheering them on.
--------------------------------------------------
Seven days had passed since the Ceremony in front of the palace. Five, since the Shield had been out in the Field, travelling in the Hills. They were in small, seemingly isolated groups, dressed in the clothes of poor farmers and shepherds: easy pickings for the cannibals. Just the type that had already been prayed upon. The Isolation, though, was only seeming. Those that could travel invisibly did so as often as possible, while the Mindspeakers kept in constant contact with each other. No group was farther than thirty minutes of slow walk away from another, but if something happened, none would be slowly walking.

OOC: short, but all I have time for.

1) Thats a great story Thomas. I would like to say that the magic you described is sometimes a little more powerful than the magic i was imagining when we 'spoke' of this earlier. For example, invisibility is a big no-no. You could say that your pre-adepts can manipulate shadow and light a little bit though. And healing would be limited to small cuts and stuff.

2) Thomas approached me and described what he wanted. I said no, then thought about it and changed my mind. The limitations where this: it would be a publicly known unit, he would have to write a story, and he could train only one. Other players are welcome to submit something similiar (think very weak hero units).

To the Cannibals and to the others, especially in the shaddy hills and forests, it would be almost invisibility. (much more invisible than anything they've ever seen before)

Yup- true enough- i was mostly just saying that these magics are very limited- i mean- this is prior to your civilization developing access to mana of any kind. its, as you say, latent and instinctual.

I need one of these...

Need to think of something fitting.

I've got an idea already, just need to think up an appropriate story.

RE: hero and minihero units

The can of worms has been opened.

And thats fine.

But i've decided that heroes and mini-heroes (which i had not planned to implement but sort of came into being) will be numerically limited.

To start with, each civ can only have one (except the grirgori because thats their 'thing' who can have two).

The mini-heroes are limited by the techs you have (don't ask for a priest or cavalry unit since those techs are still a ways away). Suitable 'mini-heroes' should suit the civilization. An extremely well organized Bannor spear unit might be appropriate or unit of Sidar militia who can move like scouts and act as very basic commandos might also be appropriate. In all cass they should cost a little more than a similiar unit.

For story reasons (because of the limited lifespan of peopel vis-a-vis the story), your mini-hero should be based on an organization and not the leadership of a particular person (you are free to try and get around this with a good story).

Remember, just because you have this option, it doesn't mean you have to use it. Maybe your military is large enough already. maybe you want to focus on infrastructure. Etc.

Re: UB:
If you want to design a unique building that fits into a tech you know, please PM me any ideas you may have.

Note: Rules Amendment: Scouts and Recon Units I am giving recon units a blatant buff. Why? Because I feel battlefield intelligence is undervalued in large scale strategic games and I want to redress that. So, from now on, each turn will have two opportunities to submit orders. The first order set must be submitted fairly early (no later then 3 days before the final orders submission deadline) and consists ONLY of orders for your recon units. You may order them to go and have a look at a territory or an enemy army, etc, prior to any other orders being submitted (including your own) and thus have a chance to develop your strategy based on what intelligence they report. This should increase the value of reconnaissance units. Note that while other units (horsemen especially) may be of value in a similar capacity I am only allowing actual recon units the chance to perform these ‘pre-order’ scouting missions.

Note: Orders Due Orders for reconnaissance scouting missions are due the 15th of January. General orders are due the 18th.

Today is the last day to submit recon unit 'scouting mission' orders.

Blades of Camulos

"How did I ever get talked into do this?" Kenith quietly asked himself as he and his guards approach one of the villages the Hupoo had created after their defeat.

"At least I have guards with me, that way it'll take them a few seconds longer to decide to kill me." He continued his musings of his own demise until his party had arrived at the center of the Hupoo called a village.

Before he spoke Kenith looked around at the men he was about to address. Most were easily larger than the guards he had been given and had the scars to prove they knew their way in a fight. Despite that he was confident his guards were no strangers to fights if the Hupoo didn't like what he was about to say they would all be dead in a few minutes.

Trying to summon his most confident voice, "My name is Kenith, I come as a representative of the Council, who among you is the leader of this... *cough*... village?" Well that wasn't so bad, lets see who I'm dealing with, he thought to himself.

"If you wish to speak me then speak coward." A voice boomed over the crowd.

Kenith saw a man's head over the crowd and it looked like the man was standing on something, but then the head began through the crowd and it became clear that the man was not standing on anything. The man and muscles as large as Kenith's head and could crush him with one blow.

Kenith let out an audible "Oh...."

"The Council has asked me to offer the Hupoo this proposal," he rummaged through his pack for the scroll, not that he didn't know what it said he just wanted to avoid the stare of the giant before him," The Council offer's this proposal as a way for the Hupoo to repay their dept to the Hippus people. The Hupoo are to take their greatest warriors and organize them self into a military force and fight on behalf of the Hippus and in exchange the Huppo will be allowed to govern themselves as their own tribe with they're own representative in the Council."

As he finished he heard a bloodcurdling roar emanate from all over the village. Fearing for his life he began to back up. As the rush subsided Kenith felt something warm run down his leg. A firm hand touched his shoulder, "Sir I believe you won them over. They're already sending out messengers."

"Good," responded Kenith, "Let's leave then. I do believe I need a change of clothes now."

Are there any cases where you can build more then one of a building in the same city? I'm thinking about resource converting buildings specifically. You can have multiple Clay resources if you build more then one quarry, but can you build more then one Potter's workshop in a city, to turn these int multiple Pottery resources? Also, what advantage do created resources have over basic resources, if any?

No- you can only have one potter's workshop per city.

It may be best to export a 'finished' product like pottery then the clay itself. If you export clay then your rivals can use this resource to make their own clay-dependent potter's workshops or brick kilns.

Not all resources are equal. For example, ornamental stone (marble, gypsum) provides 1 point of production capacity to every city and outpost in the civilization that has it (regardless of whether its imported or produced domesticly). Copper allows the production of bronze (with tin). A certain dye (called Hermatite i think) can strengthen your sail-based navy because of its protects against saltwater degredation of sails and ropes. Some are just a finished resource with no value beyond being a trade item.

EDIT: you do not get more than one resource for building more than one clay quarry or copper mine (for example) provided they are in the same province. A second province with the clay resource or copper resource can also export (to a second civ) that same resource. Domestically there is no difference however if you are producing the clay in one city or another -it all goes into the national pool.

EDIT2: Q: Does this mean that if i have one clay quarry in a single province i get the clay resource for my entire nation and thus i can build a potter's workshop in every single city. A: Yes. With limits. Certain builings will specifically say, "can only be built if resource X is produced locally".

Ok, that's interesting.

No. I just need Ekolite, Tyrs, and Merciary.
@Ekolite, Tyrs, or Merciary: If you already submitted your orders, could you resend? If you haven't submitted your orders, could you now?

Immac.

EDIT: i got charles's

Just sent mine.

Hmmm... I'm sure I sent them.

EDIT: Ok I can't find them so I'll assume I didn't. I'll write new ones at some point this evening.

I thought you had snt them too but when i tried to think of what they were, i couldn't think of it.

Merciary: i got yours- i send you a question regarding your orders though (via e-mail). please respond or i will leave the decision to your subordinates.
