MAP development

Looks perfect!

I think our minor nations can just function like the existing minor nations civ, and our failed states like the barbarians, no? That leaves just the neutral states, which I think should be fairly simple.

Nice screenshots Genghis Kai! I've been waiting for this stuff since I joined the mod! I especially wanted to see how you were going to cram Israel and Palestine into the same area, and N. Korea and S. Korea. Nice job! :goodjob:

Actually looking back at it, I noticed Minneapolis and Memphis are only cities that are actually growing in the entire world

On another note, I saw someone posted in one of the threads in your forum that removing the great wall seriously reduced load times on one of the GEM maps. If that's true, we should get rid of it right? We could just make it a standard wonder.

We haven't done our food storage mod quite yet. ;-)

On minor states: no, the CIV default is not appropriate. Minor Nations by default is at war with everyone and it is impossible to make peace with it.

On Great Wall: Oh, if you can remove the animation of the wall, that would be great!

On Food: Actually, not the entire world, just US that we are seeing. But I suppose the situation is similar across the entire world :)

Oh right. I'm on it bud.

Boy...looking at that map...

EU is going to be somewhat insanely powerful. Like over-kill powerful.

I guess I should reconsider playing as Russia and re-claiming the Soviet bloc. I don't even know if the USA could come close to taking on the EU in an imaginary conflict, let alone none-USSR Russia, heh.

if the EU spent of defence what it could it would be a military superpower, as it is the US Navy is more than double the size of th eu navies in total.

Not entirely true.

If we disregard initial technology, military and development setups, I think US, China and EU are roughly equal in size and population and I belief this is quite realistic. Russia, India, Brazil and Japan are then the second tiers.

I'm not saying it is wrong...I'm just saying, that with the production it will get - it will quickly be able to become a military superpower. Making me second-guess attempting to fight them - although, if you can blitzkrieg a bit of the eastern bloc, you may be able to withstand the coming front.

I'm guessing EU will have Defensive pacts with USA and NATO. Anyone else? Either way...declaring war on EU, NATO, or the USA will probably be a vastly losing battle. Especially with Better AI 0.6.

Off-topic a bit...I was playing GEM 1940...as Germany, and about 1943 with wars on the historical eastern, western, and southern fronts (USA declared war on me...and I was expecting the normal useless transports to hit me...and I got hit with 16 USA transports filled with stacks. Needless to say, I was doomed). So...with Better AI, and assuming the military alliances, it will be a tall order indeed to recapture much of the former Soviet bloc.

Sorry, all of that was off topic, heh.

One more off-topic question, if I may, what are the military alliances for this mod? Who is starting with Defensive pacts?

Exactly. This is the way we want it.

And as sheep said, in reality if the EU greatly increased their military spending and production, they could be a super power.

Mattygerst, in our scenario, starting militaries are going to mean more than they usually do. We are going to set exact build times and everything during alpha testing... but keep in mind that it will probably take Europe years to catch up to the military the US starts with, even if the EU went into total war mode. Don't forget, our turns are in weeks... a year is a long time. Unit build times are going to be longer than usual I assume.

Can anyone find a list of industrial production rates for all our countries? I'm having trouble. Ideally we are going to try to set up our civs with realistic production rates, not just GDPs and armies. So if after our map is finished and our buildings are added, we are going to tweak things further to get each country as close to accurate as possible. So hopefully, countries like China and the EU will not be able to produce an unrealistic amount of units.

We're not just throwing this thing together. ;)

@Genghis Kai; I also read on your forum that on the GEM, it is basically impossible for small civs to stay anywhere near large civs in the tech race. Have you found that?

If that is going to be a problem and we want to level out research so small civs can compete, I can think of a few easy ways to do it.

I think we should. We just have to figure out exactly what we want, and how to do it fairly.

I guess a start would be increasing the research abilities of small civs, this could be done a number of ways. Should we also reduce the cost of techs every time a civ discovers them?

Have any of you ever seen the Internet wonder work in the game? For some reason it has never worked for me. I would like someone to confirm that it works (gives a civ every tech that two other civs have), and I will start playing around with those kind of effects.

One thing come up to mind, that I probably should mention.

This is the new order of civ I've adopted in the scenario:

0 United States
1 Canada
2 Australia
3 New Zealand
4 United Kingdom

5 European Union
6 Nordic States
7 Turkey
8 Georgia
9 Ukraine
10 Belarus
11 Russia
12 Kazakhstan

13 Mongolia
14 China
15 Taiwan
16 North Korea
17 South Korea
18 Japan

19 Mexico
20 Bolivarian Americas
21 Colombia
22 Peru
23 Brazil
24 Argentina
25 Chile

26 Philippines
27 Indonesia
28 Vietnam
29 Thailand
30 Myanmar
31 Bangladesh
32 India
33 Pakistan

34 Iran
35 Saudi Arabia
36 Syria
37 Palestine
38 Israel
39 Egypt
40 Sudan
41 Ethiopia
42 Algeria
43 Morocco

44 West African States
45 Nigeria
46 Central African States
47 Angola
48 South Africa
49 East African States

50 Neutral States
51 Minor States
55 Failed States

I am trying to group them based on their Geographic and Ideology. I also try to put the groups in the order of importance (The English countries, European, East Asian and etc.)

Wonderfull screenshots! :goodjob: And you even managed to put Gaza on the map. That's fantastic.
Gaza BTW would be another great candidate for our slum building. Then we might even narrow Gaza's borders further.

Concerning Panama:
Another possibility would be to make Panama part of Neutral States and have them have open borders with everyone. Neutral is a smaller civ than Minor so you couldn't move your troops around everywhere. Just tiny Switzerland, Sweden, Turkmenistan, Costa Rica and Panama.
