[BtS] "Extra"

Seriously, it is a new download, no mod should rearrange existing stuff - ever.

But it could perform a file copy. Fall Further does that, based on the FfH files. This would make download a lot more slender. It took me over an hour to download.

Yes, it could do a copy, but I have almost never come across a mod like that and quite frankly for ease of use I still would prefer everything to come in one bundle, so I have no version issues with the other stuff (or other trouble like the installer not finding it as I did install civ in a non-default dir or some such thing).

Yes, downloads get larger because of that, but HD space and bandwidth are cheap, so imo no mod shoul actually do that, and this one certainly does not either (esp. since it would need to copy a lot of stuff from a lot of dirs, making things even more complicated).

As for the ice age/stone age thing.. Well, something that goes that far beyond official content couldn't be added to the 'base' Extra. It is however very likely that an 'expanded past' and an 'expanded future' will find their way to Extra in one of the optional 'patches' that I will release in the future.

I'm really looking forward to :)

About volcanos.. well, technically FfH: Age of Ice is an officially recognized mod, and it features volcanos next to mountains. If you like, I could add this volcano terrain type just to add some variety to the surface of the world map.

Great! I want it :king:
Thanks a lot!!!

@Jabie: What tracks in particular are you talking about? :)

@ZachScape: No, don't worry, it doesn't rearrange any existing files ;).

PS: I found a very nice unit that was 'hidden' in Warlords and BtS all along. It's called the Siege Tower, and it even has complete unit graphics. Open CIV4ArtDefines_Unit.xml and search for "ART_DEF_UNIT_SIEGE_TOWER" to see what I mean. It's a very nice and official unit, so I implemented it as well as I could in the next version of Extra.

The download link to the next version will be up tomorrow. In the meantime, I will show you some screenshots. Loyal players of the Extra mod won't be too surprised by these, but it's still nice to see the big picture, isn't it? :)

Here's a picture of all 48 civilizations in Extra (technically there are 50; since the game includes the Barbarian and Minor civs too).

Here is a picture of all civics. Note that some of these were replaced or edited recently so they haven't been tested much yet.

And last but not least, the tech tree :). Conveniently, it pretty much shows all new units, city improvements/wonders, religions and a handful of other things as well. Note that most of the new technologies are from Next War and Final Frontier, so the majority of the additions to the techtree are for the Future Era. But there are also 11 new techs for the early/middle game. Take a good look ;).

Cool...That looks good, Chiyu.

One request...Could you put this version on Filefront, as well as where you usually put it? At least where I live, the craccoclan download takes an abnormally long time.

As promised, here is the beta version for Extra 3.17j.
On Edward the Big's request, there is an alternative download location for this one.

Link 1 (my own domain)
Link 2 (FileFront)

This time however, I have a request, to all Extra players. This is a beta version, and I will wait with uploading the 'official' final version. I'd like to ask all of you to play a game with this version and look out for bugs or balance issues. I want the "core" version to be as flawless as possible before I start releasing add-ons. Please try to restrain from new suggestions etc. as long as I'm occupied with patching this up because I won't be able to work on anything else anyway.

The things we need to look out for are:
1. text bugs (I think there may be a lot of these left)
2. graphical bugs (units looking strange?)
3. balance "bugs" (are the civics and wonders balanced?)
4. other bugs (does the game crash? does something not happen when it should?)

Please try to provide as many information as possible when submitting a bug: ie. under what circumstances it happened. And please be as elaborate as possible when describing the situation in balance issues.

Thanks in advance :).

PS: how many people actually find the Heavy Swordsman useful? Or does it overlap too much with the Maceman?

@Jabie: What tracks in particular are you talking about? :)

Pretty much anything that came with Civ4, Civ 3 or Colonization, as appropriate to time period. "Baba Yetu" for Ancient Times. The opening menus for the scenarios in their time specific period. Most of the Colonization is either rennaisance, industrial or, for the tribes, Ancient.

The only thing I've noticed is there haven't been many great leaders. And what the heck is a Great Guildsman for???

PS: how many people actually find the Heavy Swordsman useful? Or does it overlap too much with the Maceman?
no, I find heavy swordman much better for raiding cities

Looks like a great mod, downloading it now. Though the download seems to be abnormally sluggish.. >.O Cable internet and its saying it'll take 2 hours to download the 336MB. Youch.

Edit: Bah, its because they're doing construction near by and its making our internet slooooow. I'll get this mod sooner or later..

I'm glad you got rid of the useless Final Battle civic. Bah. Good riddance.
My major problem is that the three new religions religion are using gateway techs and can be found too easily. (i.e. Pottery discovers Amun-Ra, Literature discovers Hellenism), and require you to actually hold off and forces you to fall behind on tech because you don't have that particular gateway tech. I suggest you start making new minor techs to find the newer religions as the seven original civics are implimated.

Source: Thomas' Mod, look at Mystery Cult tech.

Furthermore, if you want to make new specialists, you should try implimating those specialists from Tomas' Mod. The Great Citizen, The Great Doctor and the Great Statesman are good additions to Extra as it was in Tommy's Mod.

Edit: Tea tend to blend into the grass tile; I often miss them by building on them. Perhaps they should be recolored.

Nice ! I will try it Jeelen :goodjob:

Hm. Lachlan just pointed out that the Scythians don't replace the Ottomans on the Extra I map. I'll post v. 1.2 tomorrow...
