Divine Intervention V: Montezuma's Madness

NFTE
Spoiler :
They go straight for Trynth. Which has the same effect of dropping some nukes on him...

I decided to change it a bit, I 'trapped' the barbs on the island, they don't move and should give some challenge in capturing the city.

 No exploration and only darkness make a sad mapmaker.

My name will be Mvoca the god of the Unkown and of Exploration.

Mvoca spent all of his time looking down at the world. There was nothing interesting for him to do in heavan, as there was nothing left for him to explore, so he got himself wrapped up in everything happening on the mortal world. However, he soon got bored and wanted something exciting to happen, something that will change the history of that world forever. He wanted to interfere like the other more important gods had done even if they told him not to. And after all of those horrible things were done to the poor Aztec Emprire, he couldn't help but intervene.
Mvoca came up with a brillant idea. He would create five shrines dedicated to him throughout the world, each constisting of incredibly perfect land. Each will be locked up however, and will only be unlocked ater a certain condition has bean met. Then all of the nations would fight over each of the shrines. Mvoca thought it was a great idea and would surely be entertaining. On the continent of the Aztecs, Mvoca created the first shrine, the Shrine of Hope. And he promised not to tell anyone how to unlock the shrine until the time for it to come it has come.
Because of all of the struggles the Aztecs had been through, Mvoca being the god of exmploration gave him a few explorers to help him map out the world. He also gave him some in the shrine so he would know were it is, as the shrine was mainly meant for him.

Tracnar looks down upon the world, wrapped in a pale Aether it glows as he looks into the palace at the Aztec capital.

"Have the Gods scared him into inaction? nono, not possible....Montezuma takes action!"

Spoiler :
:mischief: Im being patient....no really i am :shifty:

Tracnar was worried....all these gods helping Montezuma, don't they see it? Haven't they learned their lessons?

"You know it is time for drastic measures"
"This is folly!"
"No, let us not be rash, or passive, we must be patient...the next move is his"

*Monitor Bullpen for up to date information*

A New Order

Montezuma was bored, the endless line of ambassadors and explorers from distant lands arriving at his palace just was overwhelming. But with the gods, it comes for good and ill

Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

Some one named Tonybee declared across the world that he had explored all the lands and says Celtia is the largest nation, we will see thought Montezuma.

Civ4ScreenShot0007.jpg

"My Lord Montezuma" said a familiar voice one day.
"Yes what can i do for you Shaman?"
"The explorers that your gods have provided us have discovered the very heart of the forest god!"

Montezuma knew what was coming.

"I believe we should embrace him and organize our people into his worship"

Montezuma was long in pondering this, his rage had been great when the sacred sites were revealed to be iced over, had the tree god abandoned the Aztec?

No.

Civ4ScreenShot0022.jpg

"OH GREAT TREE! WE DEDICATE THIS SHRINE TO YOU AND OUR PEOPLE WILL PRAY FOR YOUR POWERS TO RETURN TO THESE LANDS!"

The realm organized its religion, and the religion was cemented as the tree god's. Of coarse the Lizards religion was present, it always had taken a back seat.

On the foreign front, Montezuma showed his....lack in diplomatic skills.

Civ4ScreenShot0036.jpg

Montezuma would not be bullied by a woman.

On the other hand, warring was a little easier, Celtia and Japan had declared war on the mysterious Americans, at first Montezuma was furious that his friend was being attacked, but....after he lost...alot....Montezuma came around. America was down to its capitol, it was on its last legs.

Civ4ScreenShot0030.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0020.jpg

"May the Tree god shine his blessings down upon us, this medicine will be a great help to the Aztec people" proclaimed the Shaman.

"what do you think Johnathon," the leader of the 1st Jaguar troop stationed in the capitol had become a close friend.
"If successful, our people will greatly benefit"
"Oh don't worry, it will be successful," the tree shaman smiled at Montezuma, and The leader of the Aztecs knew he would have to keep an eye on him.

The day had come, scouts had been keeping an eye on them for years, and they finally arrived, they veteran commanders of the Sumerian war were stationed in Nottingham.

Civ4ScreenShot0026.jpg

"May the gods have mercy" Leonidas said softly, the English archers in the city were forced into service fast since they knew they were coming, they were fresh, and scared....most seen to many winters, and some too few.

Their war machines and maces were slaughtered by the archers, all those men, all those poor souls. 4 Swordsmen won out, all that was left was ashes and blood.

Civ4ScreenShot0028.jpg

Montezuma could have wept, he locked himself in his thrown room.

"This is your fault" Montezuma stared into the eyes of his decorative skull, "I know your watching me Tracnar, How does it feel to have caused the death of all those people? HUH! WITHOUT IRON WE CANNOT TRAIN OUR AXEMEN TO DEFEAT THEIR SWORDSMEN! ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

Montezuma hurled the Skull against the wall, it shattered leaving the leader of the Aztecs alone with perhaps the most frightening look his servants had ever seen.

Johnathon and the Shaman took over for a while until Montezuma could compose himself, thier domestic and foreign policy's much stronger then the Mad leader;
Civ4ScreenShot0041.jpg

The world was mapped thanks to extensive trades and the Aztec discovery of paper.

Civ4ScreenShot0042.jpg

One of Johnathon's ideas, the world believed in polytheism, all the people of the world worshiped all gods, the Aztec's only a spirit. And slavery was on its way out, merchants and scientists taking over helping the economy keep afloat.

Brennus of Celtia Vassalized Japan and America; Isabella Built the Apolistic palace, Johnathon and the Shaman rued Montezuma's mistreatment of Izzy, their would be consequences.

Civ4ScreenShot0046.jpg

The Aztec people built and expanded....already their science rate was the rival of the world, soon the lands will develop and the Aztec's will reach out and crush the Celts, Chinese, Spanish, and Zulu's.

------------

In the forests of treeland explores and pilgrims had developed a camp outside the great tree of the forest, praying everyday, praying that the Spirit would return to Aztec lands, and revive the sacred sites, and return the Aztecs to greatness.

The forest responded with savages, brutally killing everyone worshiping at the great tree.

------------

Civ4ScreenShot0048.jpg

Montezuma emerged after years of doubt, how could the gods let his kingdom fall to barbarians, how could the tree spirit withdraw after so many years of worship?

He had no time for this Scientist speaking of golden ages, academy's and education.

He approached his counselors, The shaman and Johnathon.

"Go to the fort of the tree god. Pray"

The shaman smiled, Johnathon was in doubt.

The Shaman climbed the hill, through the trees the sunlight illuminated his face, the wind blew through his hair. He could feel the great tree waking.

Johnathon was there before he arrived. And he brought his troops.

More to pray, or bring the kingdom under his control.

All throughout the afternoon they prayed, through the night and the next day, the only one not was Johnathon.
"You must pray," The shaman spoke quietly.
"I do..i do not believe. The gods have abandoned us" Johnathon looked at the tree shaman, if this worked then he would lose all control of the government to the piety of the spirits return. If it did not work, then his troops were ready to begin what he had already started, The shaman may have been fine with a forest chopped in every city and wood used to build the new naval fleet, all six of them. But if the spirit truly had abandoned the Aztec, then they Shaman would be gone, his troops were ready.

It all came down to this, if the Tree God returned and the ice melted, the Aztec's would forever be devoted to the Tree Shaman.
If the ice remained, then the Shaman would mysteriously disappear, and Modernization would sweep the nation. It all came down to the gods. May the gods ----- Johnathon whispered a small prayer, and the sun came out and shined down upon them all.

__________

Give me a few minutes to make one more post, I have to post Tracnar's final chapter in this story.

Tracnar was solemn. It was his fault the people of Nottingham were slaughtered.

"You know it is time!"
"I know, but for what?"
"The end for the gods, and Montezuma"
"Yes, let us begin"

Light blazing, the winds blew, and Aether withered.

Tracnar drew the Aether of the world, the power of the god's, the gods would die, and with their power, Tracnar would strike Montezuma down.
--------
The gods were dying, his plan was working. The Aether had turned to a poison for the gods, it wouldn't be long now.
--------------
Tracnar was weilding vast amounts of power, Golden tendrils thrashed about high above the sky, and a golden jet pierced Montezuma.

"Montezuma must be the darkness of this world!
"With his death, the gods, and ours....the world might know peace.

The world shuttered for Tracnar. His sight blurred, and he could not feel his power anymore. The Aether escaped him, yet his mind was still linked to Montezuma.

At that moment, Tracnar knew the darkness within the world.

Not the beast, but like it.....and it had defeated Tracnar...the Aether escaped him, his form shrived and a surge went into Montezuma's body.

"It wasn't him."
"The gods were not destroyed."
"Perhaps they may be able to avert catastrophe on this planet"
"The evil defeated us, how?"
"We were defenseless.....I thought....it would be the end."
"Maybe it will end, but not now...for this is the end for us."

----------------------

A bright light shined down upon the lands, Montezuma was on the floor writhing in pain. Alive.

The gods could breath easy, and were mixed with horror at the death of one of them.

The Evil had made itself known. It was here. And it claimed its first victim.

The God of Aether died

Spoiler :
The "beast" of this world killed Tracnar......i have not made a arrangement with anyone, but whoever chooses to be the beast in the world is responsible for Tracnar's death, let you gods decide between yourselves.

EDIT:
rereading this.....it seems badly written(I'm tired as hell right now after finishing the round), if you want me to rewrite it because of clarity issues then just let me know

Spoiler :
Do I feel rusty, I should have written down my plans :crazyeye:

The world seemed different. Most inhabitants didn't seem to notice and continued their daily lifes. But those who felt the changes knew that a great evil had shown its face.

On her throne Aquaris worried, the God of Aether had been both strong and wise. An enemy of Nihil as well. Perhaps she should have allied herself with him. No it had been too dangerous, she could not leave the shadows. The Beast was out there, only by this charade she was still alive. Her people need to grow stronger, at the risk of loosing everything...
Bring in the Circle. We must decide!

After the meeting it had been decided. War.

In Aztec lands it was raining, again. Montezuma knew what was coming and awaited the familiar sight of water forming a puddle in front of him. Instead a soldier came rushing towards him.
He quickly fell on his knee:

Oh great and wise leader. A band of strange people have appeared outside the city gates. They demand to speak to you.

DEMAND? Who dared to demand something from the great Aztec leader! He took a group of soldiers and prepared for the slaughter.

"Give me one good reason to keep you alive!" Montezuma yelled at the band of settlers.
"No me hagas daño! No me hagas daño!"

A men stepped forward and bowed. "Oh great Montezuma we have heard of your great lands and have come here to seek wealth and help Aztec prosper.

We have been visited by Aquaris, she told us:
I bring you wisdom. May it help you on your journeys.

And gave us these texts.

From the books of Aquaris.

The Book of Balance

For where there is evil there is the good, for where there is darkness there is the light. The Balance is holy and as such are the lands where Balance is worshipped.

The Book of Life
Life comes and goes, it is brought by the sea and taken by the sea.

She also told us to travel here, to Aztec lands. As it is blessed by the Gods.
Oh please great leader let us help bring glory and might to you."

Meanwhile a black beast caused fear in Spanish lands, it walked with the army. Had the queen turned to black magic?

Spoiler Overview/what to do. :
 • Cities with an aquaduct receive bonus(ses), depending on my mood.
 • DO NOT KILL THE SETTLERS.
 • Nihil is very bad. Refuse everything and anything he asks for.
 • Capture Bibracte (Celtic Capital) before entering the Modern Age. Do not raze it. (It holds the Hanging Gardens.)
 • Accept all demands and trade requests from Izzy. So don't renegotiate trades, this is kinda hard to check so I'm counting on your honesty ;) :) (The Taoist holy city is in Spain.)
 • Have 16 ships by the end of your turnset. (Bringers of life.)

Spoiler Not For Tracnar's Eyes. What I did. :
 • Gave 7 settlers near the capital.
 • Gave the Celtic lands a boost in response to the HG.
 • Gave Spain an army and "Daughter of Mira" unit.
 • Upgraded Spanish lands; grass tiles and towns.
 • Spread Taoism to all Spanish cities.
 • Added 'Mysterious Panther' unit.
 • Izzy is now at war with Brennus+Toku+Roosevelt.

Perpentach stopped dead in his tracks as he felt it. Death ripples through the world. He stood completely still for several minutes before recognizing the scent of the divine soul that had been lost for good.

"Ahaha, Tracnar, old silly fool!
losing both your life and rule.
Without that hindrance I am free to play,
So off to Aztec lands to have my say!"

He quickly sped towards Montezumas palace, but was stopped outside by Johnathon.
"The Emperor is very ill, and he will not see anyone at the moment."

A smeery smile crossed Perpentachs face as he looked the guardsman into the eyes.

"Is that so, is that so...
Spoiler Only for Tracnar's eyes :
Spoiler Seriously! :
In that case you'll have to do!
Heed my voice as it rings like bells,
go to where the emperor dwells,
pour poison in his ears and mind,
then you must the shaman find,
strike him down for ever more,
ignore the water princess' lore,
Then you can rule, Sumerbane,
as long as you promise war with Spain!

What to do:
Delete the Tree Shaman unit.
Continue to run Free Religion.
Declare war on Spain.
Kill (some of) the Settlers granted by Nictel (bonus if you drown them )
Do not capture Bibracte; either don't touch it, or raze it.
You are free to build ships as you like.
Two "false shrines" will be raised in your lands; do not alter the improvements on them. Feel free to defile the real Tree shrines though.
Three named Galleys will be created; once you can, upgrade them with the gold provided, to Galleons, and use them in the war against Spain. If you do not declare war against Spain, these boats will be derelicted again, and the gold provided will be removed.

Spoiler Editor (CCRunner) :

Replace roughly 1/4 Spanish axemen/swordsmen with Vultures, with the same promotions as the former units.
Grant Celtia a +2 relation with Montezuma.
Grant Isabella a -2 relation with Montezuma.

Create two signs in unimproved Aztec tiles reading "False Shrine"; place a Fort, a road, and Uranium on them.

Spoiler Only for CCRunners Eyes :
Spoiler No, seriously! :
Grant Montezuma three Galleys named "Barge of the Beast" - they should each have Flanking I, II and Navigation I and II.
Give Montezuma an amount of gold equal to the costs of upgrading three Galleys to Galleons.

Gods war... It is comming...

The battle between wills will come. Will thee accept my challenge?

Spoiler :
You will find some Irregulars have joined your army. They are wounded but true to you. Buy them equipment and they shall help you in all your conquests.

You must not defile the lands of the Tree. If you don't, I shall promise my minons shall ignore and plague your enemies as you choose. If you do, countless particles shall hammer you.

Finally, the girl will trick you with her wiles.

Spoiler Changes :
Put "Retired in all But spirit" warriors, they can be renamed after upgraded. They will have leadership, tactics and combat 5 but will be wounded in various ways and situated between them and Montyland is a strong barb kingdom. Monty will try to save them and they will be very strong. Make it so that he can ignore them for up to 5 turns.

Put 50 barbarian galleon in groups of 5 (somehow make them stay together) and go everywhere!

Some spanish Infantry with a settler will appear north of Monty land. They will be really tempting. However, they have 1 artillary. I am trying to get him to declare war on her.

Spoiler Charles Li's changes - comments :
Infantry and Artillery is rather overpowered for the time being - perhaps cap it to a couple of Muskets and a Cannon?

50 barb galleons is an overly huge amount... We have plenty of barbs already, and he's been asked to build 16 boats; if there are 50 strong barb ships out there, he's goin to have trouble completing that objective.

Spoiler Charles Li changes - comments :

Because you did not put a do not look note, i looked....

Modern/Industrial... and to some degree Renaissance era units are going to be overpowered...

and 50 Galleons is really just an apocalyptic stack of doom that serves no real purpose

the first thing about the warriors is good, and if you still want to put a Spanish settler north of my lands and want me to attack it....try not giving it impossible defenses

IMHO I feel that your wounded warrior idea is good enough...(you put an apocalyptic scenario in last round)

and me having declare war on Izzy this round is probably worthless...next round(round after this round) is when im starting my intercontinental warfare

The Dark Crystal pulsed, and cracked - a piece of him splintering free and hurtling towards the planet.

---------------

Tokugawa lurched forward as something slammed into him, and his samurai rushed to protect him futilely. They surrounded him, drawing their weapons as others turned him over to find that the projectile - a black, crystal shard - had penetrated his chest completely and protruded from the other side in a sickening, bloody mess.

His eyes full of panic and fear, the japanese daiymo reached his hand towards the heavens weakly, but as his hand collapsed and his eyes fogged, the crystal began to retreat. Melding into the flesh it once tore, it restored the body and faded away, pretending it had never been there, save for the witnesses and blood that certainly remained.

Tokugawa's eyes unclouded quickly - a fire now burned in them.

A Fire of ambition.

(Got It)

Sounds good, TFA, really good... :mwaha:

Oh and on Tracnars last comment: Even if you are not going to actually attack someone, you can still DoW them... It's about sending a message, for now.

Spoiler Changed Changes :
Ok, 1 calvary, 2 muskets and an Cannon. He got no metals...

As for the galleons, how about just combat 5 galleys and triremes dig?

"Brother.."

Phaelep pulsed into Nihil's presence, taking the shape of a wise old japanese warrior.

"Brother I've made quite a show for us this evening. Did you know that the Goddess of Water set forth an army for Isabella to use against Tokugawa? Well, Brennus, but I've set a thing or two in Toku's mind to get him fired up about being a puppet."

He laughed.

"We may accomplish more if work together brother...and as a sign of peace I have created quite a deal of bloodshed..."

Spoiler What to do :

Nothing. I'm screwing around the NPCs because Montezuma ignored me for a while. However, if you act rather ambitiously I may be inclined to look towards you next round
-- Toku has Engineering, Paper, Optics, and Civil Service now
-- Toku has an army, and a warrior of his own, "Zevoru", a Samurai of ownage proportions. However, his ownage is mostly in first strikes which the Daughter of Mira is immune to.

Clever, eh?

Toku should renounce Brennus of his own free will in a bit and leave Isabella to fight Rosevelt and Brennus without going through Japan.

Japan will eventually do what it always does and attack something - probably spain - and thrash them.
Are the Gods done?

I was rather looking forward to Winston's changes, for storyline and game play developments.

Should I wait for a little bit or play ASAP?
