[SCENARIO] Dungeon Adventure - the 133rd K.R.A.G.

EDIT: ive had a couple of stair cases that dont have the 'staircase down' sign. they've both been on the edge of the map, not sure if this is a cause.

There seems to be some errors that occur on edges. The staircases are still useable, though, which is the most important thing! I may look at the code and change the staircase placement instructions to force them to locate only within a range of 1 to 18 for both x and y. That would ensure that the "edge" plots do not get used this way.

Frankly, if I were to start all over, I'd use a map that is 21x21 instead of 20x20. Then I could fit the 19x19 maze that gets generated without the bald, wall-less strips on the bottom and left side of the maps! Oh well, lessons learned!

EDIT 3: I made some stairs for when you get into the graphics side of things :D I've also made a series of good, evil, and nutral torches and braziers, as well as rugs and tables.

I like those stairs!

I happen to have a custom walls set that I made that never quite got into the old DA modmod, too. They are more like dressed stone blocks vs. the raw stone look of the walls right now. I am thinking that there is some potential to expand on tis after the contest. :)

And the light sources and furniture sound wonderful! More eye candy and quite possibly functional, too!
 
Yes, but I have had errors with loading saves from other players, so it may have something to do with that.

You mean like trying to load this scenario as the other Shaft X Khazad civ? Or a different civ? Yes, that would cause significant errors!

What do you mean by "loading saves from other players?" I'd like to track down the bug if there is one.

Due to a combination of free time and sudden inspiration i have put together my first of *hopefully* a few Dungeon Adventure Goody Packs!



Any suggestions of items that you would like? or things that need to be changed?

a fireplace - (...would then perhaps allow occassional fireplaces to lead to secret chambers?)

Very, very nice! I am already getting lots of ideas about how to use these! It is a shame that the contest stipulates no new arts!

We will definitely need to talk about this after the contest is over. If I get started now it would be WAY to distracting! :)

no problem i can see how that would be distracting :) ive just finished the bookshelves (cant believe i didnt think of those) wardrobe and drawers. working on a 4 poster bed now and then ill do a basic bed and a straw matress on the floor.

ive also done magic circles (thought they could be quite interesting) and assorted barrels and crates.

Has anyone gone back to Shaft X after accepting mission 2 and visited with the people there? Or chatted with the people you have rescued so far?

Just looking for feedback on those event chains -- since they took up a disproportionate chunk of coding time! Are these things enjoyable or just a distraction from the main action? Do they advance or enhance the overall story, or muddle things up?

:wow: you mean theres more!?! i didnt even think to return to shaft X! *rushes to play DA again*

EDIT: my saves no longer work? i loaded from the same save yesterday but now it CTDs.

also, after having to go through it all again, ive come to level 8 in the fort and the 'staircase down' does not pop the event to change to the next dungeon level. :(
 
This is maddening!

I cannot duplicate the random ctds on my own system.

Is everyone who is experiencing errors using patch x and not patch y?

I have no idea why Psychic Llamas' saves from the other day would no longer work.

Anyone getting python exceptions or XML error messages?

Is it working fine for anyone?
 
i had one python exception that was not linked to the CTD. it occured after i used a potion of invisibility on a tile with a chest.

there are xml errors when the CTD occurs on save load, but its so fast it is impossible to capture them.

also, its impossible to get back into shaft x after you rescue the prisoners, because it comes up with the 'This concluded the demo' message :(

But any time up to then - as long as you have talked to Kandros, you can visit with the folks at Shaft X. If you rescue Torek and/or the Commander, they will be waiting for you inside!

You can buy and sell from Bortas.

Kubrecht buys mana.

And other stuff, too.

Anyway, could you try a game without ever using invisibilty potions? That hidden/chest issue is causing some of this I think. I plan to remove that potion in the next release.

Also, is there a way to log those XML errors? I am really curious about what is going on here!

this is all the case. after i couldnt get down past floor 8 in the fort (the stairs wouldnt trigger the needed event) the events in shaft x all seem to be working fine :)

that last game i had i used 1 invisibility potion by accident instead of a potion of restoration, but it wasnt on a treasure chest. i never experienced any issues during that game at all, no CTDs or anything (a bit of the usual odd behaviour like hidden doors on the edge of maps etc).

Also, is there a way to log those XML errors? I am really curious about what is going on here!

ill try get a print screen of those errors, but i cant promise anything. unless you know of somewhere that the errors are logged?

EDIT: ok, conveniently i got the Error and CTD when i tried to load that save again, and conveniently my monitor froze just on the errors! unfortunately the print screen didnt work, but the error said:

"Failed to load compressed data"

that was it...
 
that would explain my MP glitch last night... thanks xienwolf. Is this compatible with patch y? Im pretty sure that patch x was causing the trouble with (my) random crashes.
 
I hope to merge with patch y this weekend.

FfH2 team is hard to keep up with!

Also, I am little preoccupied right now. Child #3 born this morning!

(baby girl, 8.2 lbs, 20 inches! Mom & baby are both doing great!)

So please be patient, but I do hope to fix this before the 16th. :)
