EDIT: ive had a couple of stair cases that dont have the 'staircase down' sign. they've both been on the edge of the map, not sure if this is a cause.
There seems to be some errors that occur on edges. The staircases are still useable, though, which is the most important thing! I may look at the code and change the staircase placement instructions to force them to locate only within a range of 1 to 18 for both x and y. That would ensure that the "edge" plots do not get used this way.
Frankly, if I were to start all over, I'd use a map that is 21x21 instead of 20x20. Then I could fit the 19x19 maze that gets generated without the bald, wall-less strips on the bottom and left side of the maps! Oh well, lessons learned!
EDIT 3: I made some stairs for when you get into the graphics side of thingsI've also made a series of good, evil, and nutral torches and braziers, as well as rugs and tables.
I like those stairs!
I happen to have a custom walls set that I made that never quite got into the old DA modmod, too. They are more like dressed stone blocks vs. the raw stone look of the walls right now. I am thinking that there is some potential to expand on tis after the contest.

And the light sources and furniture sound wonderful! More eye candy and quite possibly functional, too!
