NOTW XXIII: The War Party. Game Thread.

Of course all state-sanctioned border incursions will cease if the Ljojasfwhatever stop in their attempts to occupy our territory. They are only retaliating against the Summer Court's aggression.

"That was the way I understood it aswell, Winston. Charles Li, who is currently leading in the negotiations, seemed to express an abysmal dedication to his job. Ofcourse we need the leading diplomat to be someone we can trust.

Personally, I would recommend Morgan, the Aide - a neutral party both sides can trust."

GM comment: First off, I want to say thank you to all the new players who have been active so far; it's been great to see. Second, please keep up the good roleplaying -- the better you do, the better I can make my own write-ups. Last, an apology to those of you I've managed to confuse or annoy so far  : thanks for putting up with me, and I hope there will be no more of that sort of thing for a while.

Most people had avoided Charles Li all afternoon. The man had seemed to as good as admit that he could easily be turned from the cause of peace, and only mergle was willing to risk giving the impression that he might hold a similar sentiment. That said, none of the diplomats were above taking Charles Li's common-sense suggestion regarding the raids and making it their own. They just made sure to hold their discussions on the opposite end of the island from where the miserable Lead Counsel sat.

Talks ebbed back and forth for hours, but it was clear that this was one subject on which there was a general agreement. Ljosalfar forces would be withdrawn, and the Svartalfar would take control of their "irregulars" in the region. By dinnertime, the scribe J-man had an official document drawn up commemorating the momentous occasion, and signatures were appended with much congratulation all around. Even Charles Li was brought in from isolation to add his mark.

Unfortunately for him, that would be his last official act. Popularly perceived as a security risk if not worse, he was condemned to death by the vote of all the delegations. Somberly, the seven members of his own honor guard marched him to the end of the island, where the waters on each side converged and fell crashing into a deep ravine. Charles Li refused any final words in his own defense. After a moment where the honor guard all looked at each other uncertainly without acting, the Rookie Border Guard Stuck in Pi reached out and pushed, hard.

Charles Li fell into the depths without a sound.

Spoiler :
Charles Li was for peace.

When the honor guard returned to the main camp without their captive, something indefinable seemed to go out of the rest of the delegates. The mood of congratulation evaporated. They had shed blood now, of their own volition, and there was no going back.

It is now night. Day will begin in just under 24 hours from the time of this post. No public posts until then, please.

OOC: Ok... I didn't forget this game or anything... I have a LOT of reading to do.

GM comment: Three players have yet to comment in the public thread, and I've seen no evidence of anything going on behind the scenes with you either. (Nor was any warning given of vacation, or whatever.) You have until the end of Day Two (about 53 hours from now) to start showing signs of life, or I'll replace you with one of the reserves.

OOC: May I just say on behalf of all the players Renata that you're doing a spot on job. Your write-ups are to be admired and that's always something I prided myself on. I love how you use little details from role-playing and such to make it seem like we actually influence the outcome of negotiations and such... It's a nice touch...

Morning, Day 2

[I realized I forgot to say anything about items with regards to Charles Li’s lynching, but that’s ok because he didn’t have any.]

Shaken and upset, the peace conference attendees settled in for an uncomfortable night. At least the weather was tolerable. A breeze had kicked up, strong enough to reveal occasional glimpses of stars through rifts in the banks of fog. Those who saw it were cheered. But the wind brought something else as well: occasionally, one would catch a hint of chanting carried on the breeze, distinct enough that a few curious souls ventured out to see if anyone was in the temple. There was no one there, and after a time, the chanting stopped. Most of the humans and elves went back to sleep.

A few did not. TheForestAuro discovered Love in the morning. The archer’s throat had been cut almost to the spine. Despite Love’s great strength, there was little sign of struggle. That was not the last surprise. A furious whispering starting in the Ljosalfar encampments, and shortly the Svartalfar further up the island were surprised by a ferocious keening, a spontaneous outpouring of grief that left them all rattled. The cause was soon revealed: the great Ljosalfar hero Gilden Silveric was dead.

Spoiler :
Love was for peace.

KingMorgan made an admirable attempt to corral the diplomats and get them to focus on negotiations, but it was in vain. There would be no progress made on the peace treaty today.

Posting is open; please bold your accusations.

Love possessed an unstrung bow and some blunted arrows; please cast your votes for these items in bold red.

GM comment:Responses to night queries will be back shortly; need to get the kidlet fed.

GM comment: I keep forgetting the *@#&^)*#@^ items! Post about to be edited to add something else for you to vote on, so please double-check it if you've read it already.

Would all Diplomats please announce themselves, and come to meet me? we need to work for peace. once we do that, no more deaths will happen.

I agree. If we do not negotiate today, we give the murderers what they want. I stand ready to mediate once more.

OOC: Wow... Renata is taking great risks. I've never dared to put an actual game hero as a character!

GM comment: Yes, that's confirmed. Sorry for the ambiguity.

The prince made his way to the Ljosalfar side of the camp.

"Dear Ljosalfar, I am truly sorry for your great loss. Gilden Silveric was a true hero, full of honour and a true inspiration for his people. I am sure he will be missed.
...
I feel though that you, the Ljosalfar, will give Gilden Silveric the greatest honour by continuing these negotiations, I am sure he would have wanted us to."

Walking into the meeting place with a somber face streaked with tears, he layed the body on the ground as he fell to his knees, blood covering his form.

"Is this not enough?" he cried in outrage. "Is it not obvious!? This is the fault of those who know our kind too well - someone trying to manipulate our kind into hating each other. This is not Svartalfar trickery - this is outsider violence."

He wept. "I should have listened yesterday..."
