Ffh Nes Ii

i lurk too... :)

EDIT: thanks for lurking- i like what you wrote about deception in the Random Stories thread in relation to Thomas' back-stabbing.

EDIT 2: I never realized how much secret stuff is going on behind the scenes. When i play, yes i am involved in some diplomacy and planning, but as a mod, i get questions in PMs and Emails that totally blow my bind; NESers are such scheming bast*rds. I really look forward to the orders so i can try to see what people have been planning.

I.

Three Weeks at Sea

Rodima of Common House Yrauos retched over the side of the boat, paused, and then retched again. For nearly three weeks now she had began her days in the same way: wake up after an uncomfortable night spent on a ship which lurched on the sea like a drunken houseless man, mutter her prayers to Her Grace the White Queen- begging the Eternally Misty Mistress to not let her loyal subject perish so far from home, take breakfast in her separate quarters, and then promptly rid herself of the breakfast into the greedy Narrow Sea.

The men did not laugh openly, they had more respect than that, but she could not help feeling useless as
they strode across the deck with an uncanny ease. She was almost beginning to believe that none of these men once walked the good green ground. ‘We are not ducks, child, we were not made to walk over the blue,’ her mother had said when she told her about the White Queen’s mission. They had argued, like they always do, then Rodima simply left and made for Luthien Arcamenel.

As she watched one Elf-turned-sailor move near effortlessly across the ship to greet his nautical brother she allowed herself a fleeting smile at the small victory over her mother and her traditions. Then the smile gave way to a distraught look and Rodima turned to feed the sea again.

The Birth of Something New

Having finally finished treating the Horse Lords to all the courtesies she could bear, Rodima of Common House Yrauos waddled back to her stifling chambers in the squat keep of Conrond Mor as gracefully as she could. Once inside she immediately shut the door and awkwardly shrugged out of the clothes she had received as a gift from a Hippus noblewoman who had recently given birth in favour of the gauzy garments of her home. Though they failed pitifully to cover her bulging stomach, she would suffer any indecency to combat this sweltering heat which even made the brown-grey stone walls sweat. The year she spent with the Hippus Horse Lords, which would normally be the blink of an eye to any being so long lived as a Mist Elf, turned into an eternity due to this near-demonic heat.

She longed for the constant cool breezes of her homeland, for the faint smells of pine rather than horse manure- even her mother’s long, scowling face became a fond memory. So when she descended from the high of her memories and noticed a letter addressed to her ‘Penned by the Hand of Her Royal Highness,’ Rodima made a rather unbecoming squeak of happiness, rushed to her desk, and opened the letter with the practised haste of an elf.

She read it once, paused and frowned, then read it once more- this time aloud to make sure she read it correctly.

“It is only with the delight of a sister and the relief of a mother that I receive the news that you, Rodima of the Sea-Side Village of Yrauos, and your brothers of the Misty Maiden have reached across the Narrow Sea safely to make contact with the other peoples of this world. With the pride of a Master whose apprentice has wrought well I tell you that your continued efforts not only better your own prestige, but that of your entire nation across the sea, but I must remind you, as the Know’ed Huntress does her daughter, to be ever wary and always aware of your surroundings. You do not reside in your home.

Still as a child who has done well you must be rewarded and so I impart to you the permanent duties as Royal Ambassador to the Hippus Nation so that you may continue to diligently serve your loving queen and your equally loving nation.

Isil Carensir,
Queen of the White & Lady of Lessien Luacuteinwë, the Eternal House of Stars”

Royal... ambassador? Rodima stood still for some time and even then she could not quite grasp the unwanted reality of her situation. She had left her home under the pretence of being the face of an exploration party, and was sure that once contact had been made a proper Noble of the Higher Houses would be sent to treat with the foreigners.

Her mind was a frenzy of thoughts and it took Rodima a few minutes to realise how afraid she was. It took her even longer to realise that she had wet herself out of fear. And still yet longer to realise that it was not urine which pooled at her feet.

To Rodima of Common House Yrauos

We are sorry the we are slow to respond to you, there were important dealings to take care of. (OOC: Start of Spring Break). While we would love to trade with you as of now we Hippus have mostly avoided the see so it's secrets elude us now, also our horses are of short supply at the moment. Also we have heard of your experience in our cities and we are sure where in the city you were but we can insure you that most of the Hippus are not like those that you saw, as for the pikes those were place by some over zealous Blades and Gnolls. When we received word that they were placed they were quickly removed. We hope we can create a lasting relationship with your people.

(OOC: Alright I know that in the updates the Hippus appear brutal, but not all the people are like the Blades and love bloodshed. In my mind, not sure what Immaculate says, but most the people still follow Tali (Who, Thomas in my mind is Male). So The Pikes with heads might of gone up but near where my army is our outside of town, definitely not with children playing under them. I know it was for a story and I take no offense, I just don't want the Hippus to be seen as savages it's just what I've deone given the large amount of fighting I've been forced to do.)

((OOC: Oh no, I figured that the children who played around them were the children of said over zealous soldiers and she was passing through the entrance where- as you said- the army/soldiers were most likely camped.

And in the eyes of most Mist Elves all near-elves, flawed-elves, and part-elves are only a grade above savages. I hope I have made this clear in the few stories I have posted.. Take nothing personally!))

(No I don't take it personally, I just wanted that out there so people know that not all Hippus are crazy worshipers of Camulos)

Charles Li I need answers to my PM before next turn starts. If email or msn is easier for you then PM-ing then feel free to add me if you have a hotmail account, I sent you my address. Diplomacy is an important part of the game and you can't just ignore the other factions if you want to get anywhere in the NES.

I know you have limitted time on the computer but you've been online since I PM-ed you.

Answer me damn you!

Orders due late tonight or early tomorrow depending on your time zone.
I didn't recieve orders for either recon or counter-recon from some players with scouts so those scuts will just counter-recon their borders.

Orders received:
Amurite, Bannor, Kappa, White Mist Elves (nice move with the shoes!),

Any idea on a timeline for the update? (not trying to press you, just wanting to know when i should check...)

tomorrow evening is what i am aiming for. usually sunday or mondays.

I think we've got a sort of weekly turn-around going so far and i'll try to keep to that. if it gets to be too much and i can't maintain good update quality i will allow more time but for now i will try and stay on a weekly schedule.

That works.

And, just out of curiosity, if you have the number handy, How many orders do you have?

and have you rolled for events yet?

I have four order sets.

i haven't rolled the events yet. sorry.

OOC: I accept that I might miss this turn this turn due to allies and BS that is also known as little brothers.

lolwat? Do I?

I don't like the fact that you can post in the thread but can't reply to a PM, which would have been a much more appropriate way for you to have said that to be said. I would prefer that you did not ''insinuate'' in or out of character about your strangely over-active imagination, as the boundry between a player and his nation is over-rate. This is a game after all.

If you are refusing my offer then tell me straight instead of just posting these ambiguous hints.

I am not, I am just calculationg the Worth/Return ratio.

Now, if I have to... Maybe next turn, or a exchange of ****s with Immy as middle man.

Just so everyone can have a chuckle and know they are not alone,

Almost all of you have written, "damn production capacity"... in your orders at one point or another. Already this turn two of the five order sets have written that. and last turn two more of you had said it in your orders too.

Anyway- yes, you need production capacity to build stuff and i know its annoying but if you up your production capacity stuff gets cheaper. Its not all bad.

Remember:

[*]Production Capacity: This value represents the level of complexity that a particular province can achieve in its building and military development. Building a simple land clearance farm doesn’t require any production capacity. Nor does recruiting militia. Building a library, a forge, or city walls does and building a major project especially does. Each building or unit will have a requisite production capacity associated with it. The unit or building cannot be built if that production capacity is not met. If the production capacity is greater than the building’s (but not the unit’s) requisite production capacity, production costs are decreased by 5% per point difference (maximum 50% off)

One of the template equations in your spreadsheets can be used to automatically calculate this but basically investing in mines etc will not only let you build more complex and advanced improvements it will make less complex improvements cheaper.

So, lets say you were building a diviner's lodge (production capacity of 0, cost of 60), and you had a production capacity of 1 in that province, then the cost would be 57 gold. If your production capacity was 2, the cost would be 54 gold. if your production capacity was 6, the cost would be 42 gold, etc.

I said "stupid", not "damn".

And, actually, I fully agree with the system. The only thing I think is maybe a little off is income - it seems to be a little slow. I also think that there isn't enough incentive for high populations. Still, everything is remarkably balanced for being, essentially, in beta testing.
