I have a gripe, regarding the americans! They always vasselize to someone or other.
I've tried of all three difficulties and they still almost always vasselize :( I want to play against a strong, independent United States. It's especially irritating as I often play as the UK, and I almost always find the USA vasseld to France or Germany....very ahistorical!

Why is it not historical for america to be a vassal? They were an english vassal until the declared independence.

Perhaps something could be coded to cause a war between america and its master(assuming it has one) somewhere around the year 1780. Or, since civs can be reborn once nationalism is known widely, shouldn't vassals be able to declare independence whenever they want once nationalism is discovered? This would mean that instead you could simply code a large negative diplomacy modifier between america and whoever it's master is, much like what was done between the christian and islamic countries in the middle ages to discourage trading with Arabia and Turkey. Once nationalism is discovered America will be able to break free no matter their size so this would be more historically accurate.

Isn't that when they spawn?

And by the way, I_am_sin7, please refrain from using such derogatory language in the future. Nationalists, such as myself, may want to light you on fire.

I dislike England being forced to declare war on America when they spawn. It doesn't lead to anything exciting, and I suspect it's one of the reasons why England often fail to colonize.

No, IIRC America spawns in 1733, one turn after England's colonial UHV ends. That would leave about 20 turns for America to be vassalized to a European civ before breaking free.

In the most recent patch, America spawns in 1776. Since the date's been changed they start off really far behind Europe in tech and just spend the whole game sucking.

if you want to do well, you need to use a 3000BC unlocked, even better if you do emperor since Europe sometimes turns into a waste land, also, play as the British and set America up nicely, then switch

My favourite strategy. Works even better playing the French first. Poetic justice really.:D

Nationalists, such as us, are not so thin-skinned as to be offended my moderately unkind language

Don't look at my join date/posts then *cry*

My avatar certainly reminds me of what I was playing when I joined...

I only post when I have something interesting to say! And I didn't mean to be derogatory! Apologies, my only real concern is that the Americans always seem so weak, unless I play them myself. I often play the British, (Being English myself,) and quite like to have the strong transatlantic rivalry/freindlyness to finish off the modern era game with a bang. Usually as the Brits I tend to have a quite extensive empire, and pre patch it was usually America who supplied some handy late game rivalry! In short: Without a strong America, the endgame is dull :(
