[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

Yup...Im a magnet for werid things happening..so I cleaned my cache and did a fresh install...so far so good!! One thing though, Im not able to use the option for different leaders with different civs..say King David with America...was this part of what was disabled?

I can't seem to get past 3000 bc without a ctd. I have installed the patch already. don't know what's up with it. I used to play the older versions without any problem. I've tried 3 different games and get close to 3000 bc when it suddenly ctd's. i've been playing on oddysey on one of the newer map scripts.

I was wondering on some of the newer maps, if there is an explanation for them anywhere. Also, did the city radius mod get dumped? Always wished that as a city grew, it could work more squares. Would be neat if a city up to 20 got the normal radius then from 21-30 a few more and so on...maybe its not possible though.

I added the name Bob, because I didnt want my first name there haha...so unless your name is bob dont look for bob...look for what you used.

For Sid Meier's Civilization thats all mine says..the colonization doesnt show up until im in the folder. I go into cache...select all and delete. Thats where i go...hopefully thats the right spot.

I just tried this option... David w/ America.... works just fine. Are you saying you can't click on the option, or it's not visible, or what?

I need a savegame to see what's up.

It's kinda funny in a way... alot of people who had constant CTDs suddenly have none with the new patch. Then people who never had CTDs in the past suddenly get them all the time with the new patch!

Too bad I don't have my own code monkey to help me out on this!

Alot of them came w/ BUG Mod, so I didn't really create documentation for them. I did take a look at them, though, most of them are pretty self-explanitory.

Where exactly can I find this "Cache" Folder to empty out?

Mine, for example is:
C:\Documents and Settings\Grave\Local Settings\Application Data\My Games\Beyond the Sword\cache

What I did was place a shortcut to this folder in my BtS Mod folder, so that way I have quick, easy access to it when I want to clear it. I also disable the cache in my CivilizationIV.ini file, too.

Thank you for trying but I guess my setup is differnt than yours as I either cannot find the Cache Folder or I am not looking in the right place. I am using XP but using the 98 look for the system.

Thanks anyway though.

@Grave. That is much more like my setup, however I do not have a Local Settings folder it seems. Thanks to you asd well. This is much appreciated.

hmmm werid...I cant use different leaders with different civs...lol no big deal though..ill keep at it and see what happens.

This is an exact discription of the problem I was having with 3.0...I just downloaded 3.01, so we'll see if there is any change.

I haven't got to play it yet due to some computer problems...

I found out tonight that I need a new hard drive. I never would have guessed . I'm pleased that my machine was forthright enough to act up for the pros. Now that it has been diagnosed it can be fixed and my sanity can return!

Hopefully I'll be playing this weekend.

I've been playing it last night for about 4 hours, (with the 3.01 patch and the 2 fixes) and it is working perfectly. Great job Grave ;-)

Im glad some are having it bug free, but I just ran into another..everytime I meet up with the AI opponents, its automatically war...and no i dont have that option selected. What would you need me to post to see this? Im also having random ctd's, and I cant track down what causes it darn it. There seems to be no reason for them...but im gonna keep at it. I still cant play different leaders with different civs either...so far those are my 3 big issues...none of which I had before the patch haha. I may just wipe it out and reinstall everything again, and see what happens.

Ok my civics look different too...like free speech all it says is -happy face for civs without and +100% culture..hmmm I thought it had more than that in 3.0

Serfdom-+1 food from fishing boats, pasture, winery and +1 hammer from lumbermill, watermill, camp.

Im thinking that some how my version of HiTM is not working right

Sounds like the gameinfo's are screwed up big time. Could it really be the order in which they appear/are loaded?

I was looking at my hitm files and found that i have 5 files in the directory that appear to have not been unzipped: uiblood for hitm; uicoal for hitm; uigray for hitm;uisepia for hitm; and uitourquoise for hitm. is this the reason for my ctd's? if so, where do i unzip them to?

I have them as well...wonder what they do?

Well after multiple attempts at getting the patch to work with the other 2 new files, I started running into an error that wouldnt even let me get BoTS running..would crash out right at the XML mark...so i uninstalled and will reinstall it and try again

I didnt have any problems with 3.0 and also I dont have any problem with 3.01. Also Im playing multiplayer hot seats with friends and everything work perfectly for now. :goodjob:

Hmmm...I cant even get 3.0 to work now lol...darn it..i shouldnt have updated it...funny how some will have zero problems and others will have multiple issues. I guess Ill just take a break from Civ for awhile. I put back in 3.0 and it looks different then the one I had before, with many more options, yet all my civics are totally not what they used to be.

Read the History in the Making Readme. 95% of the answers to everything are either located in the Readme, the individual mod's readmes, or the FAQ located in Thread #3. All you have to do is read. That's why I give the option for the Readme to pop up immediately after installing HiTM v3.00. ;)

The ui-zips are User Interfaces, coal is kinda black/grey iirc, blood is red etc.

I never, ever, ever once ran into any crazy/kooky issues when installing my own patches. I don't understand how some of you guys have such problems installing a patch! It's pretty straight forward! Unzip to Desktop... move to your MODS folder. :crazyeye:

If you modified/added any files in HiTM, it could cause issues, naturally. And clearing the cache periodically certainly doesn't hurt, either.

Basically, if you had it working before and now it doesn't... it must be user error. Sorry man. :p

Just to be on the safe side, too, before installing/updating HiTM, unload all mods (load up a vanilla game) and make sure all game options are UNCHECKED, and have a map script loaded that is included in vanilla (Pangea, etc). Exit out of Civ, and install HiTM/patches. Load up Civ and switch to HiTM.

I have noticed that sometimes if you exit out of HiTM with certain options checked, or a custom map script (PerfectWorld2, etc) that are not in vanilla BtS, it acts a little strange sometimes... but nothing that should cause CTDs or anything funky happening to the vanilla game or it's files. More of an annoyance issue than anything.

I hear ya. We're so blessed you're making this mod... instead of these cowboys.
