Mini-NOTW I: "To Kill a Mockingbird" (Game Thread)

What if being drunk were an act? It's a legitimate idea. I don't want to take sides in the Stonemason/Innkeeper feud, which seems to have sprung up from nowhere, but, as much as the loss of ale revenue hurts me, the drunkard seems to be a reasonable option.

That drunkard is always causing trouble in the village. This place would be a lot easier to guard if I didn't have to constantly nanny this pitiful excuse for a man. We would all be better off without him methinks.

Quick to bandwagon, eh, City Guard?

You were up early and said nothing, yet now you accuse someone whom I doubt can be the murderer simply because he's probably the only one who can still sleep at night because of all the booze in his system?

Not that you slept this night. I know you did not. You were out there murdering poor Love.

No, I was not asleep last night. I could not sleep, and so I took a walk around the village, hoping to catch our kiler in the act. Unfortunately, he must have elluded me, for I saw no one.

The Mayor, who has been leafing through his notes for some time now, finally stands to address the group.

As you know, I have been conducting interviews with each and every one of you. Some have spoken freely, others less so. Though no-one has put himself beyond doubt, some have given a good account of themselves. Others have not.

However, it is those who have chosen to remain silent who raise the most suspicion.

The hunter has been notable by his absence since I announced my intention. I urge him to come forward as soon as possible, or else we will be forced to test his innocence by other means.

But it is the guard who causes me most concern. Is he truly the vile beast that stalks us? I know not. But his refusal to talk in private, combined with his less-than-convincing actions in public... These are enough to make him my prime suspect at this stage.

As for this mysterious vial of liquid, I ask that you hand it to me for safekeeping.

One last thing... If any of you has a weapon of some kind that might be used against the monster, then please let me know. I realise that it is difficult to trust anyone under these most trying of circumstances, but believe me when I say that a failure to act swiftly could bring disaster to us all.

GM Comment: This afternoon-update will be delayed about two hours (meaning it will be in 5½ hour). The night will still last 24 hours (thus moving morning two hours), then we will return to normal schedule. This is due to - believe it or not - RL issues.

Pah. Like I stated before the drunkard cannot hurt us. Unless you trip on him in the alley behind the Tavern, which would be fully your own fault. ANd in regards to my Inn stonemason, it was here a long time a-fore you came to town. But I shall retracted my suspicions against you. But the mayor has brought up a few good points about the guard. Better than anything we have on anyone else anyway.

I to have noticed the way our guard has distanced himself from the rest of us. In this situation we need unity against this monster and it seems the guard is either busy with other duities or he could indeed be this monster. I will give him a chance to defend his actions though before helping kill a potential quiet innocent....so what say you Ekolite? What are your reasons for remaining so silent and not helping us figure out who this killer could be?

I have been gathering evidence to discover what foul creature could be prowling our streets, after all, how can we fight it successfully without first knowing it's Achilles' Heel so to speak. If you kill me today then you are only condemning yourself to misery and death. I care not for my own sake, I will be with our Lord Lugus at last, away from you rambling madmen, each of you more murderous then the last. I am the best fighter amongst us all, if I die then there is no hope for you. May your pagan Idols take pity on your souls.

I believe Ekolite to be innocent. His actions may be off but not suspicious. There are others that have been truly acting in a way that shows them to be hiding something...

Please, I know somebody has to be choosen for this but choosing Ekolite is a waste of
our time and will only result in another innocent death! I believe his actions thus far have shown a lack of caring on his part but nothing more. I only believe that two people have shown such untrustfulness and it is not him! I support the guard and would like to give him at least another day to show he is different...

Update: Evening, Day 1
The second half of the day had seen many accusations back and forth, but ultimately ended too close for anyone single person to be lynched - a tie between the drunkard, Rhawn, and the guard, Ekolite, ultimately ended in a deadwind situation - none of them were killed.

The vials were passed on in silence to the hunter, Thomas-Berubeg, and the eleven remaining villagers returned to their homes for the night, praying that the killer would not strike...

Vials to Thomas.Berubeg - nobody was lynched.

It is now night! Posting is CLOSED! PM me night orders. Day is in roughly 25 hours!

Update: Morning, Day 2
... Once again, the sun rose over the little village of Awrail - it had not yet deserted the small group of villagers who were, on all other accounts, in a terrible situation.

Slowly, they exited their homes, one by one. As the first few gathered in the plaza, the storyteller coughed before telling another story;
The Storyteller said:
The founder of Awrail, whom we have already heard of, founded Awrail here, not only because it was the place where his companion, a panther, died, but also because he sensed very strong ley-lines in the area. Ley-lines of his favourite school of magic, even. He studied the same school of magic as the archmage and student of Kylorin who was his ancestor; The school of Shadow magic.

... As the story comes to a hold, the ten people in the plaza look around, noticing someone missing. They all gasp in horror when they realize who is missing.

As one, they run to the mayor's house, hoping that he is merely dozing. The traveller, J-Man, enters the house, this time without knocking, others right behind him. That leads to a lot of turmoil as J-Man suddenly needs to get outside, sick to his stomach at the sight of Winston Hughes' corpse.

One of the eyes are missing completely, and the other one has been perforated, now covered partly in dried blood. Apart from that, the mayor has several wounds on his body - he clearly has no chance against the killer.

Spoiler :
Winston Hughes was innocent!

The mayor did not possess any items.

It is now day! Posting is OPEN! Night falls in 72 hours!

GM Comment: Clarification: A personal goal is not the same as a victory condition; unless stated otherwise, your victory condition is that the killer is caught. Personal goals are prestige, flavour and glamour :cooool:
