Role Play Challenge: DeGaulle's League

I don't want another lost especially because of the last game. Replay until you win.

As for advice, I also recommend trading Compass ASAP. Tech trade around, make sure you trade with the highest bidder while avoiding the WFYABTA limit as much as possible (as in trade with people with the lowest WFYABTA limit).

Replay until you win just like Mathew said. With the last RPC ending in almost record time ( I'm gonna check on that btw) I really would like to see Mad duking it out on the oceans.

DeGaulle's League: Part III

I decided to replay the segment as the point of these RPCs is to have fun. Does not seam like marching swords against longbows/crossbows while the world heads to rifling is much fun.

This time I did much better, so here we go!

We decided to have a tech fire sale, everything must go!

DegC20000.jpg

DegC20001.jpg

Then we decided to shake things up a bit

DegC20002.jpg

Peace leads to too much trading. Soon after Asoka joined in the war against Zara.

Some more trading

DegC20003.jpg

DegC20004.jpg

And we got one of those random events that popped a free Scientist into Orleans.

We settled our only city this segment which finished the French Core.

DegC20006.jpg

And made some more trades.

DegC20007.jpg

Just kept ate it.

Techpath went: Currency/Code of Laws/Metal Casting/Literature/Construction/Machinery (finished via trade)/Civil Service/Paper/Education (via GS bulb).

Tech is a little slow but we are bolstered by the trade route and more importantly a sizeable treasury fro the Great Merchant.

Production has been sparce as we are forbidden from using teh whip, nor can we adopt HR for the extra happiness.

We managed to pull off a really good trade with Zara

DegC20009.jpg

And we changed civics for the first time all game.

DegC20010.jpg

Vassalage as I plan to get into some war here! Caste to run scientists for some beakers. So far that has been space too although we are starting to chain irigate as much as possible.

We continue to make trades, even with our potential first victum

DegC20011.jpg

We decided Paris would be our GP farm, for now and we built the NE here.

DegC20012.jpg

Our second GP was another GM which we used immediately for another 3900 gold trade mission.

DegC20013.jpg

And ran the slider at 100% science.

Zara turned out to be one great trading partner

DegC20014.jpg

I am sure he needed one as the other Judaists were probably NOT trading with him!

We then met 2 more leaders

DegC20015.jpg

DegC20016.jpg

A couple of tech deficient saps we can bully arround!

GW has a few techs we could use

DegC20017.jpg

We later also got Music.

Meanwhile we are stockpiling galleys'triems and assembling a force of maces/cats.

We popped our third GP

DegC20018.jpg

No doubt here, we bulbed most of education, leaving 5 turns left.

After education we are left with

DegC20020.jpg

I saved here as I wanted some opinions first

The tech situation

DegC20021.jpg

And the Map

DegC20022.jpg

OK, right now Darius has 28 turns left on education and Asoka is teching Nationalism.

The question is do we trade off education for Engineering/Guilds/Philosophy and some change to Asoka/Darius for the stronger army and risk losing the Liberalism race. Or do we monopolize education and make head towards Liberalism to get Astronomy for free?

I also have a sizeable force ready to hit Victoria. Do we start or hold off until Liberalism?

Remember, RPC rules I must gift Liberalism once it is researched.

PS: The treasury is ready to crash also, so the techrate will dryup fast!

Is there a reason you didn't want to explore, more? I mean, I know circumnav was gone a long time ago, but I think you could have popped a couple settlers on some galleys, and quickly settle and spawn off a colony. I don't see many "aggressively settled islands" at this point.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Call it a game deficiency of mine. I am notorious for slow exploring and I just started Caravels to do so.

The agressive settlign has sort of been blocked by the close AIs. Fear not, "aggressively settle islands" can have 2 meanings!

You can't pop settlers on any difficulty past Warlord.

Pop also means visit.

I popped to the shops.

I prefer nipped though but I'm probably a big rasist.

You said you were behind in tech?

Well, if you were that behind. Congrats on a good replay.

'Ello Mad! I want to say first that it is always a great pleasure to follow your RPCs! I really love the extra catchy/themed rules you get on, they give another dimension to the game and add much more fun!

Before we decide a course of action for this one, could you *please& post a screenie of demographics first?

Other than that, I'd say : trade Edu with all the rest 'cept Darius (isn't he the one teching Edu atm?). Make sure you get Guilds since it will boost up your production via the +1ham on w/shops.
Then, have every city produce wealth if you are short on gold or science if you have extra gold and run 100% sci slider to get Lib. No chance you will miss Lib that way. Get Astro as your free tech then tech straight for Gunpowder to get musketeers and then Military trad for Cuirassiers in order to clear a couple of backward civs and spin off new colonies. At that point you will be able to dictate research of 2/3 difrrent techs and get on top much sooner.

But before anything, please give us a fresh demographics screenie pls ;-)

Glad yo see you following teh RPCs.

I am at work and cannot get a screenshot up until later this afternoon which is when I will likely play the enxt segment. I will check out that screen though before proceeding.

I like the idea of building ealth although not sure if that's enough to float the economy to nab liberalism.

As far as trades, I am a little more limited than I thought

Darius will give us Philosophy for Education, but not guilds

Asoka will give us either engineering or Guilds plus some gold.

SO do we monopolize Educations? And if I trade so we want engineering for trebs/pikes or guilds for knights?

Get Guilds and Philosophy. You cannot bet on monopolizing a tech that can just be bulbed by an AI...

See if you can bribe ANY AI to declare on the others. 10 turns of proxy war will still get the AI to focus on military and look away from liberalism. Check if you can FIRST make them DOW somebody (specially the ones you will give them Edu) and THEN do your EDU trades... If you do that, chances are that they will try to research a military tech first, leaving liberalism all for you...

Wait to attack Vicky after you get lib and astro. When you get lib you have to give it to all the AIs anyway and gifting that to Vicky would cancel your war.

A long post coming up.

Be forewarned, it is pretty boring and rather sucks although are doing pretty well.

The Jerk French (Lou and Napolean) are much more fun than than the Noble French in DeGaulle.

DeGaulle's League: Part IV

Yawn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, that type of RPC!

We start by strategically trading education

DegD0000.jpg

We avoid another trade until teh next round to see what we get.

The point was made before that I did not explore much. One reason is that a simple trade can get us

DegD0001.jpg

So maybe 5 cities in Asoka's core. Not shown but Vicky's home turf also has Zara on it.

Speak of the devil

DegD0002.jpg

So we only managed to trade education to one person, Asoka. And by readjusting eps

DegD0003.jpg

We found he was researching Astronomy. No fear of losing teh Liberalism race here.

Tehcpath: Liberalism/Nationalism/Constitution/Gunpowder. Yes a tough research segment.

We meet another AI

DegD0004.jpg

Who is also behind in tech.

Soon we finish Liberalism

DegD0006.jpg

And we select Astronomy for free.

And the techs

DegD0007.jpg

So we have to gift Liberalism to Asoka and darius. well sure

DegD0008.jpg

DegD0009.jpg

HEY! We are French, nothing is for free.

Astronomy is also nice for free as we have access to our UB, the salon and it's free artist. The salon is also cheaper than the University so we spam that quite a bit.

We adjust civics

DegD0010.jpg

dropping Victoria to cautious, Asoka and darius to pleased (although they also adopt FR, their favored civic) but we got Zara to pleased.

Time has been wasted too much already, time to head into English waters

DegD0011.jpg

DegD0012.jpg

As soon as we declare war

DegD0013.jpg

Damned AP. We are very strecthed regarding happiness (France really could us a King) so defying it is out of the question.

DegD0014.jpg

So we retreated and sulked a bit after hurting our trade Route Economy quite a bit.

Our next GP we popped was rather useless.

DegD0015.jpg

So we started a Golden Age.

And to help the economy a bit, we made this trade.

DegD0016.jpg

NOTE to oneself, Darius has no native iron, thus no frigates or cannos!

We meet another leader

DegD0017.jpg

And we decide to make another try at Victoria.

DegD0018.jpg

At the same time we mmet another AI, who is vassaled to Darius.

DegD0019.jpg

We throw all our force at London.

DegD0020.jpg

DegD0021.jpg

So we got the Great wall. One of the few games where I do not think it helps much.

And the AP forces us into peace yet again.

DegD0022.jpg

To Be Continued....................

DeGaulle's League: Part IV

Once Zara finally got education we could do another French "GIFT"

DegD0023.jpg

After what seams like forever, we manage to finish Natioalism and change civics

DegD0024.jpg

Happiness, lower civics, Draft, espionage. Lot's of good stuff and Good Frenchman would like!

SO Zara finally declares war on Victoria (he had WHEOOH for a long tiem) and got on board figruing we both could run over the land and maybe we can get a colony.

DegD0025.jpg

We attack Coventry!

DegD0026.jpg

Sweet! As we heal up our troops to capture the next city, peace breaks out

DegD0027.jpg

Apparently Ethiopia got himself his own Vassal!.

Well, we have 2 cities there, let's see what we can do.

DegD0028.jpg

We spin the two cities off as a colony AND>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

DegD0029.jpg

Welcome to the game Hyuna! We are ticked off about the shortend war, so we took all our troops back with us. HC now has 4 Quechua's defending his 2 cities with Coventry continually revolting to Victoria. I could care less, you got your damned independence Inca man, what more do you want.

At this time I have ideas of focusing on the east!.

DegD0030.jpg

Yes, very tempting area over there.

And as you would expect we got an AP vote.

DegD0032.jpg

I voted no, HC defied and we have an Incan Allie swimming in unhappiness.

FINALLY, we managed to tech constitution which we "GIFTED" to HC

DegD0033.jpg

AND adjusted civics

DegD0034.jpg

I am definitely planning to adopt a late game SE here!

Another hidden AI pops up

DegD0035.jpg

He is way behind in tech and I have a spiteful satisfaction in that!

A Minor trade

DegD0036.jpg

We popped a GE which I am saving for either the Mining Corp or rushing the UN

DegD0037.jpg

And we finished Gunpowder for a military edge and the French UU, leaving us with a choice

DegD0038.jpg

OK, Currasairs or Frigates next???

we saved here.

Techs

DegD0039.jpg

Demographics

DegD0040.jpg

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

And teh Map

DegD0041.jpg

OK, time to really mobilize a stronge army. Now do we harrass the weak (Mao, Mansa, Ramesses) or hit Asoka and cripple an eventual threat.

Right now I see the way to go is "Acquire" the weaker nations and lead a voting block against Zara.

Go Chemistry, then Steel. You get some nice trade bait, frigates, and Steel bee-line! Cannons are really useful against Asoka ( Who BTW I suggest you go against, can we get a few pics of his land?) Cannons in numbers can easily smash through a though city with rifles ( Which nobody even has yet! Also, Darius has a lot of gold and PP and Eco. with him right now. Can Gunpowder get anything from him? He's pretty far away and I'm pretty sure he'll get it soon enough.

Yawn!!!!!!

Just kidding! But yawns are contagious!

How many colonies do you have? It seems you have very little...

Go for a late domination play, except don't win. Go nearly behind the diplomatic victory limits, and then win. Is this possible? It might make the game more interesting.

You run Nationhood and can have two solid spy buildings. I say tech to Military tradition (1st) and then Chemistry. Kill your science slider. Make best friends with Darius and let him tech on his leasure. Steal all monopoly techs from him, then trade them arround to the point you get the tech lead.
Use Musketeers and Cuirassiers in the meanwhile to destroy lesser nations and spin off colonies :-D This way you will also be able to dictate various research paths and easily trade for techs.
Dont go against either Asoka OR Darius. Let Asoka grow, spy harass and steal Darius while doing everything you can to be best friends and break his relationships with Asoka (an AP vote if you come in office? Sabotage the resources they are trading?). Get the colonies in the lesser nations, build the UN and when the time for vote comes, it will (hopefully) be U vs Asoka. Your colonies + Darius will vote for you and VOILA!
But Cuirassiers + Muskets (Guerilla 3 so they can also withdraw) with spies can eat the lesser AIs much faster than cannons.. (dont forget to use spies..)

Ya know, Mad, after being bitten by the AP so many times, I've gotten in the habit of checking the Members screen to see when the next resolution is due before I launch a war. Maybe you should too.

As for tech path, going chem/steel will give you slow-moving cannon with a fast UU, or you could pair your fast UU with fast Cuirasseirs. I'd go MT for the mouseketeers/curries. Then rifling for cavs.
