New NESes, ideas, development, etc

You need a less disturbing way of representing microstates, as this full picture now shows.
One of the disadvantages of the fat-cross cities under () the hollow-box ones is that it would require far too many pixels (approximately 11 miles squared each in the Symph-Perfectionist maps and very much more approximately around twice that in the smaller "classic" map) to represent countries you could walk across in an hour (or less, if you're a fast walker).

Also, fat-cross capitals look like eyes that stare INTO YOUR SOUL

Germany looks deformed.

Germany looks deformed.
Central Europe is broken on the original, so-called "Jason", map, as is Eastern Europe.

Since the "classic" maps aren't bound by being accurate on any level (the bit I like best about them :) ), the best one can hope for is to get a country at least vaguely shaped like itself.

Also, if you think Germany is deformed:

Nope, it is the ultimate thread for maps... ALL map discussion should be contained within :p
If Thlayli can use the Alternate History thread for NES development, I can use the NES development thread for map development! Also, the more posts that get into the ultimate thread for maps, the greater the chance that it won't be the ultimate thread for maps (the silly 1000-post ruleoid).

While I'm waiting for my friend to finish the map for my 40k game I thought I'd sound you guys out for a future project.

One of my favourite periods of history revolves around the civil wars at the end of the Han dynasty. The period of known best known as the romance of the three kingdoms, documented in an extremely long but entertaining novel of the same name.

Despite the title, the most interesting parts of this period involved more than a dozen competing provincial warlords fighting in shifting coalitions.

There are a large number of important personalities involved in this time period. The game, at least in it's early and mid stages will revolve around these personalities, but other random character would be developed by the

The game will take inspiration from the historical novel more than it would from real events, so expect a 'low fantasy' setting where a man could ride 1000 li one day or 500 men could slay 100,000 if led by the most brilliant strategist of the time.

Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?

Yeah, If I have a Spearmen with all promos, I can defea 100 units of Tanks.

But if I have an All Promo Tank, I can't destory one spearman! :joke:

Fulton, have you played the KOEI games (particularly the first three)?

I've played RotK 7,8, and 9. Also pretty much every dynasty warriors game aside from the first two. While they aren't good sources, it does capture the umm... heroism of the period. I'm looking for a more RotK based game, with an emphasis on stories but with a grounding in history.

I've read the first volume of the actual historical novel. However, it's nearly impossible to get an unabridged copy of the Moss Roberts translation (the best translation in the opinion of those I've talked to) in Canada so no luck getting the second volume. I still can't believe my friend found the first volume. Hopefully I'll have better luck when I get to Korea.

I plan on picking up a translation of the Records of Three Kingdoms, a partially primary source (the author served Liu Shan, so he was alive during the end of the period), when I'm in Korea.

Isn't the unabridgd version avaliable on the Internet? (http://threekingdoms.com/)

It is available, but I hate reading books online. Plus I don't think it's the translation I like.

Spoiler world map in old heavily community-edited jason map still under construction :

I have spent several hours over several days just translating the world map. :salute: to you who generated the 2008 world map from scratch.

If anyone still has love for that horrid old map like I do, contribute and help in any way you can!

I love it! Well done! Keep it up!

(didn't someone improve on the "lobster" up on Canada?

Central Asia, south-central Africa, and Central/Eastern/Southern Europe need attention long before the comparatively irrelevant Canadian islands get a look. ;)

True, what I mean is, I think someone already improved it (I remeber their post) but god knows where it is.

Whats with the coasts? They look very odd... UK especially!
