SGOTM 10 - Murky Waters

FiveAces - good luck!

if ghandi will give us bombay for peace should i take it? when i selected it in the dialogue box it says and that's my final offer. but there is no way to test by asking what would make the deal work. maybe it's just giving the dialogue i can't believe our power is such that he would give a city for peace.

Not allowed w/o nuking.

A few thoughts (nothing to do with the current turn-set):
Both silver island and northern fish make sense to have. Should we plan for 6 cities fast?
If we have 6 cities we should consider to take St Pete off university duty and specialize on military.
Does NE in Murkow make sense at all . It needs size >> 20 to have a lot of specialists and work cottages and other good tiles.
How about double fish north giving it some or all of Murkow's water resources.

FiveAces Turnset report t16-t26

Wow. We got some work to do for sure. Good news is we know everybody. Bad news is there's no where else nice to settle. I think we were meant to stay on the starting landmass until nukes. Anyway here's the recap...

t16 1365AD: DoP Ghandi, get map+10g (fortunately klarius reminds me of the rules and I don't risk walking an eternal plank by testing Ghandi's generosity). Ghandi's map reveals our landmass does indeed end to the W and we are locked on an island with him.

IBT: Ghandi will sign OB, but I don't have a reason to do this now so I don't (traps his explorer FWIW)

t17 1370AD: Gold City founded on the desert hill S of gold. Caravel spots purplish/maroon borders on the land to the NE.

IBT: nothing

t18 1375AD: Change mind on the specialist in Murkow and run engr - makes 6t difference in the lib build.

IBT: Ghandi has a GE.

t19 1380AD: Meet Mao. Christian, 2 cities, WE of Churchill (who we haven't met yet). Keep max espionage pts on Ghandi.

IBT: As we feared, Ghandi builds Sistine in Delhi :(

t20 1385AD: nothing unusual happens

IBT: Meet Roosevelt (hmm anybody see a theme here? Americans, Indians, English, Russians, Chinese, nukes...). Roos knows Mao, and isn't anyone's WE. We don't know where his land is and I need some guidance for the caravel/scout, so we buy his map for 60g. WOW that was 60g well spent. It seems our island is surrounded by everyone else in an arch shape (though we still don't know much about the W). We also are in a race for circumnavigating by the looks of Roos's exploration so far.

t21 1390AD: Based on Roos's map his and Mao's landmass ends to the far east. But we don't see Churchill anywhere, so he must be W of Mao. OB with Mao to get the scout through to check out the W.

IBT: Seems Ghandi has built another explorer to replace the one we've trapped :crazyeye: or do the AI's start with 2? Anyway nothing noteworthy happens.

t22 1395AD: Gold City's borders pop. The wb was already in place to net the seafood as ZPV suggested and the next already in the queue per klarius. See Roo's caravel to the SE.

IBT: a GS is BIFL.

t23 1400AD: Meet Churchill. His rel is islam, and he is WE of Mao.

IBT: The historical guy's Power list from top to bottom: Mao, Ghandi, Roos, Unknown, Churchill, us :D

t24 1405AD: OB with Churchill for the explorer.

IBT: nothing

t25 1410AD: See Roos galley to the far E (going N up the E coast of the long straight island/peninsula thingy). St P finishes theatre and runs artist instead of engr. Murkow reaches size 8, switches build to settler and engr back to citizen.

IBT: meet DeGaulle (his explorer NW of York). Roos has an explorer by London

t26: Murkow is ready to whip the settler. I moved the explorer and caravel to see if they revealed anything noteworthy but no other moves this turn, nor did I pop the settler in Murkow.

If we want to try for DeGaulle's map we can maybe gift him enough gold to get him happy enough to trade it - we just met him so shouldn't need much unless his threshold for map trading is friendly. We can also prob buy Roos map again to ensure we are not behind him in the race.

Yes I was thinking about NE in northern fishes too. And yes if we go to 6 early skip uni in St. Pete. We will need some sea defenses to protect silver city against the E barbs for a little while.

Well I can't find the right autolog  I checked all the ones in the AutoLog folder and none of them have entries for this game. Did Buffy move the default folder for the autolog?
It's in the Buffy mod folder - subfolder autolog.

FiveAces - nice play! :goodjob:

DMC - over to you. Please prepare a Pre-Play-Plan once you feel comfortable.

Just copy the contents of the autolog file into the post. Or did you mean something else?

There's a couple of cities we can settle. The island to the east next to barb-land, the island between us and the Americans once we have a second culture expansion in gold city (or astronomy whichever comes first). Hmm, we need to decide how many sites we should steal from the AI. How to compare the cost of an early settler and a late nuke

To AI relations:
There are 2 groups: Gandhi, Churchill and Roosevelt with high peace weight (Churchill has drawn a 2 for peace weight rand deduced from the current relations) on one side. Mao and De Gaulle with low peace weight and warmonger respect 2 on the other.
Gandhi will be worst enemy of the two once they meet and hate Mao the most.
There will be no open border, map, tech, or resource trades between the groups.

5 gold :) should be enough to make De Gaulle cautious so we can trade his map. We should do this because later it will be more expensive.

Everybody except Gandhi can be bribed to war at pleased, which could be reached for everybody except De Gaulle and Gandhi by a gift. It's probably to early to consider now, as the civs are so far apart. OTOH, now it would be pretty cheap :) (gets more expensive with elapsed turns).

Ii should be possible to keep Roosevelt, Mao and Churchill cautious, even when we declare a religion. De Gaulle is difficult (-1 base and doesn't like people better in rank).

Well, fog gazing a bit, the first is a peninsula of the barb continent. Not really recommended :). Another small thing (Gyathaar ). Navajo has a bomb shelter.

The second can be reached with galleys via the big continent. That should be considered as it's near and can pay for itself.

There seems to be quite a bit more (the region our caravel is now, west of Gandhi). But that's all to far to be considered anytime soon.
klarius - when you say churchill drew a 2 does that mean the dice "rolled" a +2 for him so his base peaceweight is 2 points higher?
.
Yes, his base would be +6, but that doesn't fit with him being Mao's worst enemy instead of Roosevelt (+8). Only possibility that he got a +2 rand at game start and Roosevelt got a 0. The range is 0..2.
Edit:
Attitude spread sheet.

Agree with what you say though. Mao really doesn't give a lot of religious demerits.
Roosevelt, Mao and DeGaulle are in the same group (0 immediately -1 after 5 turns and the general -1 for having the holy city). Churchill and Gandhi have -1 immediately, so -3 total.

I'm having trouble uploading the save. Everytime I try to open the game, I get the message that "this file has been hidden to ensure that your custom assets are protected" (or a similar message to that). I don't have the exact message because the game crashes too quickly for me to read the popup.

I posted this in the BUFFY thread but if anyone else has experienced this problem please let me know.

DMOC, what you are talking about :
Uploading to what?
If you just cannot open the save because of modified assets, you should check your install with the Assets Checker.

Some observations about the map:
Mao has no coastal city on our ocean :). And probably his third city will also rather grab resources. So he shouldn't be able to get units to us anytime soon. We could consider a phony war.

Some interesting religion spreads.:crazyeye: Christianity in Bombay. Hinduism in York.

Barbs have iron on their continent. They will hook it up some time after T34 and build maces. And upgrade their warriors.
