Role Play Challenge, The Next Generation: Comrade Lenin's New Deal

Stalin used slavery to kill 9 million of his own people. Mao used slavery to kill off millions of his own people.

Police State/ Vasalage (that's what the inner party was: an aristocracy)/ Slavery/ Mercantilism (the Soviets sold arms to everyone not aligned with NATO) /Free Religion (State Atheism, but in reality Russian Orthodoxy and some Jews. Buddhists in Vietnam and China)

Here is another vote for the power of state property - it will make for incredible soviet tech and production rate.

Now that mad is far enough along - here's the synopsis of my shadow, which led to a dom win in the mid 1800s, and a score of 125k.

Spoiler :

I took much the same opening as mad – went for GLH and settling the nearby land – slightly different locations, but same result. Main difference was that I appear to have built a couple extra early galleys, as I had scouted all of Izzy’s two islands and the northernmost island as well.

As a result, I raced some settlers to do two things: 1) claim the ivory as I was DESPERATE for happy faces. Red red everywhere until like 1300 AD, and 2) box in Arabian zealot lady big time. I accomplished both very successfully - check out the blockade!

Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

Those cities were placed much earlier, but I didn't get screenshots until 790 AD. She had nowhere at all to go after these two cities, and was boxed in to 4 cities. I also moved my palace to this spot, almost same spot as comrade mad scientist lenin.

Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

That island ended up housing about 10-12 cities for me.

Since I failed to get colossus by 5 turns, I raced hard to astro for a powerful trade route economy. I had cities everywhere, and finally decided to mount an army to quickly assimilate arab cities into communist soviet state. The AI combos were something though – Hannibal of Rome and Augustus of Viking. Two really cool combinations, both with massive number of units. However, Augustus and Mehmed appear to have not known anyone else for a long time, because they were way way backward in tech compared to Hanny, Wang and Nappy.

You can see my expansion speed here:

Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

In 790 AD I had 11 cities, which isn’t bad on an island style map. I then continued to massively rex. Check it out just as Lenin was mounting the army to assimilate Arabia.

Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0005.jpg

19 cities at that point.

Civ4ScreenShot0006.jpg

I destroyed her with trebs and maces, and then sped toward combustion to rule the seas. In the mid 1700s, I was ready with my force, and the AI had no hope because of this:

Civ4ScreenShot0011.jpg

No one was near combustion, and I had a force of about 15 destroyers and 15 transports. Not to mention loads of cannons, rifles and airships, as you can see here:

Civ4ScreenShot0012.jpg

A 30 unit stack in Damascus and 35 or so on the transports. I DOWed Hanny and his vassal Napoleon first, and quickly blew away Hanny’s massive stack of cavalry and rifles – he had a stack of about 50 of them waiting, but they were no match for the airships I hit him with and the massive stack of cannons and rifles. After 4 cities and destroying his naval fleet, he capped. Gave his cities back, took one of Nappy’s and he capped. We had Wang at friendly, but made a quick backstab, took two of his cities, and he capped, so that whole continent capped in the span of about 20 turns.

Mehmed was next, and despite a massive army, he was backwards and gave in quickly. By this time, Augustus was finally starting to catch up in tech, but my airships, artillery and infantry was way too much for him. A lot of fun this game was, because the AI combos were cool and there was a lot of warring going on. I saw many GGs born early on, and I kept seeing Nappy and Hanny with ships nearby as I was readying my force, thinking they were going to attack, but they never did.
Moscow was quite the city at the end:

Civ4ScreenShot0008.jpg

11 merchants working night and day to funnel gold into Soviet treasury. True to the roleplay, was in paganism all game:

Civ4ScreenShot0010.jpg

I also never built a cottage and destroyed all of Izzy’s. With the obscene trade routes and merchants, it didn’t matter. Builds and cities:

Civ4ScreenShot0009.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0007.jpg

First game ever where customs house topped my builds. In the late game, the production power of every city under SP with all the workshops was insane, so many cities built the things in like 4-5 turns. I had 6 different cities churning out a unit in 2 turns or less, and with 30 cities and running in the black at 70%, no way for the AI to keep up with that massive production. Really a fun game, especially early as it took a lot of thinking to try to maintain happiness – settling the crappy city on the northernmost island for two happiness resources was really key. I also had ferrying ships in so many places that NY public transportation would have been proud.

It would have been an incredible sushi game as I had 20 fish/crab/clam, but that’s against the ideals of the soviet people. State property was a much more appropriate civic for Comrade Lenin though, and almost as effective.

@ Mad
Spoiler :
Hannibal doesn't even have Optics as yet, so how can he have Astronomy??? :hmm:

Haven't been keeping track of game going well I see. I love the specialist economy blah blah.what ever you call it. Production is King, hammer rule, pen is mightier then the sword, but is smashed by the :hammers:

Mad, only you have Astronomy! The soviet people don't need Gunpowder right now, they do need their true faith! Research Communism immediately. Ah, and comrade Lenin wnats to build his beautiful palace.

Ah Comrades, I see that I was mistaken about this Hannibal of Rome. I sawhe did not want astronomy like the other capitalists and assumed he already had it, missing he wanted optics.

It is decided, Soviet people shall learn the abilities of State Property right away!

Disapointed that you haven't rearranged the names of your capitals! Moscow is ofc your capital - be it new or old - and has always been... (aware of the paradox - which is non excisting...)...

Mad, nice going there! The revolution is international! All countries must be directed by the Comintern, which is run by the USSR. I think the Red Army should crush the bourgeoisie of those countries and liberate them. The stars can wait, comrade.

Comrade Lenin: Caught Off Guard!

Comrades, there is much to discuss this segment! We have had great success but to be honest my friends, we have been lazy and caught off guard!

We start by deciding to research Communism followed by Physics! These are great technologies for Soviet people, and are much more important than any others! However, we are desperate in beakers to research Communism, so we make some fillin trade

LeninIIF0000.jpg

Which allows us to increase science slider a bit!

In Moscow Great Sceintist Al-Khwarizmi is born. To spped along research we built a nameless academy in Moscow to take advantage of the many scientists we have there.

It is at this time comrades we had trouble

LeninIIF0002.jpg

Comrades, I fear this may have been my fault. I was sitting down with this Napolean having some Vodka and I accidently called him the "Funny Little Frenchman". He became enraged stating he is taller than me and he is not French! I said, "Comrade Napolean, as not French and Holy Roman the same?" But comrades, that was when he declared war, and the sneak already had a force off our shores.

LeninIIF0003.jpg

Galleons! How did he get them so fast! Well. it is no concern as we are now stuck defending Vitebsk against macesmen/Lankersteiners/trebs.

LeninIIF0004.jpg

We must be prgmatic here friends, our CR promoted maces are no defense against trebs and this Holy Roman Melee units! So we retreat and taunt Napolean into attacking our city! SO he took the city and immediately demanded our surrender! Bah to that, we solified our forces (many from the barbarian war here were fogbusters) and then laid seige to our own city! And soon

LeninIIF0005.jpg

Recaptured! We never saw another of this little Frenchman's army (sorry, there I go again) Little Holy Roman Emperor's army. At this point we also start constructing many walls and castles across Soviet Union.

Now Comrades, we focus on more important tasks here. We start by making trade with English Korean who has turned into our best trading partner here.

LeninIIF0009.jpg

I was reluctant to trade Scientific Method as we wanted to be first to Physics, but Comrades your Chairman has a plan!

Because soon after

LeninIIF0010.jpg

Yes Comrades, the very important technology for Soviet Peoples!

At same time we also pop Great Scientists Francis Bacon

LeninIIF0011.jpg

And Great Spy Joe Matise from KGB!

LeninIIF0012.jpg

And with several civics we want to convert to, we decide to launch a Golden Age with this Joe Martise Spy. The Soviet People were so terrified to see the great LGB agent they did not even consider any rebellion during Golden Age and agreed to government changes as it in Soviet Union best interest (and their's if you catch my meaning).

LeninIIF0013.jpg

Great Soviet Union is now in State Property! We also adopt Nationhood as that best fits Soviet mindset and to be honest comrads that extra +2 happiness from Barracks allows us to NOT be dependant on foreign trade (although we gladly take it)!

So we use Superior Soviet production to get lot's of buildings and improve Soviet Army.

We also usedFrancis Bacon to Research a good part of Physics while we manually research the remainder during Golden Age and well before Korean!

Also, Agustus the Viking agreed to another grand trade

LeninIIF0014.jpg

Good, Good. Another valued Civic for Soviet people although we had to wait 2 turns to convert.

Yet, we are still in Golden Age from KGB and Soviet citizans endure another government change without anarchy.

LeninIIF0015.jpg

NOW we can run alot of scientist specialists getting twice the production!

So before end of Golden Age, we finish Physics and save here to here from Newly created Representative Soviet citizanship

LeninIIF0016.jpg

Some interesting choices here.
Gunpowder seams very important as well as replaceable parts followed by rifling (which the French Holy Roman appears to be researching) and Military Tradition for Cossacks. There is also Democracy, but this does not seam very Soviet, still a necesary evil. Then there is Electricity which can be bulbed partly here by

Albert Einstein.

LeninIIF0017.jpg

Ah Comrades, what to do with such a Great Mind! Electricity adds needed commerce to watermills and windmills, plus Soviet UB is 2 techs away (refridgeration and superconductors).

But just at the save we met with the Little Holy Roman Emperor

LeninIIF0018.jpg

Let bygones be bygones Comrades, at least until Soviet Army is built up!

SO at the save

Technologies

LeninIIF0019.jpg

We are doing well, but we do not want the English Korean getting ahead of us so no to trading Physics.

Still, perhaps this is a trade we may want

LeninIIF0020.jpg

I know COmrades, economics is a filthy capitlistic tech but we need it to progress and we do NOT have adopt Free Market as we have State property! It also opens up the English Korean to accepting Communism in exchange of Replaceable Parts and our money back!

So do we accept???

Our cities

LeninIIF0021.jpg

You can see mighty production! You can also see many castles will stop being built if we accept English Korean trade.

And finally Comrades, Demographics

LeninIIF0022.jpg

Ah, Soviet Union is strongest at production! Perhaps bolstered little bit by Golden Age,but still excellent propaganda for Soviet People!

Once we get to Modern era we shall decide whether to invade and bring the State to the people or simply demonstrate superior Soviet abilities by building Sputnik!

for the record Napoleon was not so short in reality... but he was belittled by the Englishmen.

Make the trade and then then the follow up trade for RP. Use Einstein to work on Electricity and make that your next research project. Those three techs will provide an immediate boost to Soviet economy and production.

After that, I can't see any other choice but to go gunpowder, rifles, military tradition, because it seems highly unlikely that the Holy Romans won't be back for another round.

for the record Napoleon was not so short in reality... but he was belittled by the Englishmen.

Yep, I know it! Also there was always a debate when BTS came out if Charlemagne was French or German, so Frixas made him Holy Roman! ;)

Friend of fatherless! Fountain of happiness!
Lord of the swill-bucket!
Oh, how my soul is on
Fire when I gaze at thy
Calm and commanding eye,
Like the sun in the sky,
Comrade Napoleon!

Thou are the giver of
All that thy creatures love,
Full belly twice a day, clean straw to roll upon;
Every beast big and small
Sleeps at peace in his stall,
Thou watchest over all,
Comrade Napoleon!

Had I a sucking-pig,
Ere he had grown as big
Even as a pint bottle or as a rolling-pin,
He should have learned to be
Faithful and true to thee,
Yes, his first squeak should be
"Comrade Napoleon!"

Time to go production and military. I'd say do the trades, go gunpowder-rifling and start drafting, then go chemistry. Or probably squeeze in military tradition after rifling.

At that point, see where you are. You could either do steam power for levees, steel for cannons, or bio for stronger farms.

Make the trade with Wang, get rifling, then head to steam/steel/RR/combustion. You'll want control of the seas, and those are powerful production techs for the Soviet economy. I'd then go for flight/fascism for carriers/fighters/paratroopers. After that, AL/elec/radio for infantry/bombers, and take over the world (if you haven't already by that point  ).

1) We adopt no state religion, construct no religious buildings, missionaries, Prophet producing Wonders, or adopt religious civics. We tolerate religions in our cities or captured cities as they are the Opiate of the people, and Holy Cities may be spared for the extra income if captured. Consider this Soviet religious indifference.

Could you not be tolerant to the bolded out rule :)

In the old soviet republic there was no state religion, but many religions did inhabit the great republic.

Opting for Free Religion would not only have you given a big boon, it would have been accurate in history as well, plus in accord of your own Soviet religions indifference :goodjob:

Very nice game so far btw, please continue

I agree with that - much more of a challenge to dominate with no religious benefits, Comrade mad lenin scientist.

I would like to add my voice to those calling for war! Rifling, Steel, Steam - churn out riflemen and cannon like there's no tomorrow, throw in a few airships since you can, and KILL!

Thank you.

PS - then maybe beeline for the UB, research with specialist only, and use the slider for espionage. Infiltrate KGB agents into enemy cities to undermine their resistance to the soviet war machine.

It would be waste of production capacity not to built the Red Army. I believe Comrade Lenin agrees that communism must be spread all over the world and using all the means in hand. Communism is a bit like medicine. It tastes bad and it can kill you, but everyone keep saying it's good for you.
