New to posting here, let me know if there is anther area for games completed and games in progress

version 1.186 (newest)

Idea- One city greek powerhouse (actually turkey)

Score 776 in 1380 (monarch difficulty, yet to go any further)

Founded llion on sheep se of const. Mine wheat, then quarry marble after masonry. Send phalanxs to destroy babylon and raze indy's (give one to egypt for ope border). Send settler for goody huts. Research priesthood, monarchy, (metal catsing with oracle) get theology and later divine right (6 priests total now needed!) with great priests (for christianity and islam), aesthetics and literature for parthenon and leaning tower. Then teched toward civil service and engineering for notre dame

Build order- work boat work boat, oracle, stonhenge, forge, temple of artemis, m statues, great lighthouse, colosus, library, parthenon, ap palace, (and on..)

Built all wonders except hanging gardens, pyramids, colloseum and great library

Founded cristianity and islam no prob

Only issue is that my culture would not extend into greece past wine (diff continent?, so no iron or copper)

Turkey no prob either as they were booted to mountain area (forgot name) but I capitulated them anyway so they wouldnt steal my horses with their culture.

settled 7 geat people, rest for techs and holy city shrines.

When you say booted to the mountains, do you mean your culture forced them not to settle Sogut? I thought that was fixed long ago. Maybe because you're 1 tile from Sogut and the fact the you only have 1 city.

Must have been my proximity. They wouldnt found a city so they were evicted by culture.

Never used slavery, Instead emancipation to make other civs unhappy and less likely to get the wonders.

Tech traded only with carthage and egypt not rome (they never build wonders, rome collapses sooner so no notre dame for them)

Also should have made sure to get islam to arabia before they switched (so I dont have to build so many missionaries in the future).

Culture very annoying (no iron), and great wall is only in mid east not europe.

Temple of Kulkulan before minaret or sangkore (had to reload for this)

Never built any units expect a few warriors as I had plenty of money for mercs.

Sounds interesting. So should we have a challenge of some kind?
Finish tech tree first?
Or space race?

Only issue is that my culture would not extend into greece past wine (diff continent?, so no iron or copper)
Normally, culture will not spread more than 2 tiles across water.

How about 1CC UHV?
How fast could circumnavigation be done this way (obviously no cities in New Zealand for instance)?

In this case, I would have thought Korinthos (on the Marble) is the best site for a one-city-challenge with Greece. Interesting idea.

I started the OCC but I haven't played the geeks before so I don't know if it will turn into a UHV or space race.

So I started the OCC. So far I played to turn 100 and it seems I will miss my 4 UHV wonders in turn 124.
I was surprised that the greeks didn't start with a workboat which slowed me down. I think figuring out the early building sequence is key here, so I will trawl the boards and look for the optimal build sequence. There are some very interesting tradeoffs between growth and early culture in the OCC that might not be there in a regular game.

Blizzrd, are you playing OCC UHV?

Out of curiosity, what happens if you have only one city which is in the spawn area of another civilization? Does it flip and you lose, or will the AI be forced to move like they did before when the city was just a capital?

AFAIK, AnotherPacifist demonstrated that your only city won't flip.

Yeah, I decided to see for myself what would happen. It does not flip. It seems I might get the UHV at around 620 C.E.

I decided to try this challenge by settling Roma as my capital. I sent all my phalanxes to destroy Egypt, Babylon, and the other cities of Asia Minor. I did this for the gold to keep one-hundred percent research rate. Also I needed to steal workers as settling Rome takes more than two turns. My tech path is the same as the Greek UHV's in the quickest UHV threads.

One frustrating part of the game was that I could not get past size five population without my citizens getting angry. I had to wait to get Monarchy both for Hereditary Rule and the wine before I could expand past five. I was able to pop a few useful techs. The first one was ironically Metal Casting, followed be Aesthetics, and a few useful but non-essential techs. I sent a galley to go as far east as possible, which is somewhere East and North East of Australia near a one square island. I then had a trireme upgraded at Rome to be sent on its way the turn after Optics. Luckily the Mayans had constructed a canal city and I could pass through, as opposed to the alternative going through the Strait of Magellan.

If you didn't pop metal casting, I don't think you can build the Colossus in time.

The difference between Rome and any Greek city is that you can enclose more resources due to continental differences, even if you can't directly work the resources. Also, if you didn't build Rome, the Romans will build a city 2 blocks away from you, and their capital's culture will overwhelm your capital. So yes, Rome squatting is still called for.

Are you saying I could not build it since I picked Rome or that in general it cannot be built? If I had to research Metal Casting I would probably either just make it or fail, I agree. The Oracle can always be used to give Metal Casting if necessary, like Fanatik did.

Sure, you can use Oracle for Metal casting, but you might just miss the Aesthetic wonders. I usually try to trade for monarchy from the Babylonians, then kill them.

I tried it once, and I missed the wonders deadline also.

I built 2 workboats/Harbor and then Oracled Code of Laws to enable Caste System. But this slowed me down too much in getting to both Aesthetics and Metal Casting (prerequisite techs for the wonders UHV requirement).

After this run through, I surmised that unless Stonehenge has not been built at the Greek Spawn (highly unlikely, but it could happen) I'm not sure that a Greek OCC UHV is viable now that Metal Casting is not a starting tech. Or maybe I just need an alternate strategy that I haven't yet thought of.

Nice going Zagoroth, can you do that with a Greek city?

My last game ended with me needing 5 turns more for the last wonder(I didn't pop any techs).
I'm working on a 1N start again and I'm careful to get my worker and build order right. Turn 74 at size 2 with 2 wb's and Granary completed. I popped a scout so my chances for a tech are getting better, with units going in all directions(1 unit south as per Blizzrds greece uhv post).

I finished my OCC game. I circumnavigated in 610AD for the win. The key was balancing strong growth with early culture to reach the 500 culture mark which put copper and wheat within my borders. My build order was wb(chop)-wb(chop)-granary-library-wb...

Actually got to 550 gpp/turn in Athens! :crazyeye:

I don't think I'll finish this game, but I got the 4 wonders with 1 turn to spare in Korinthos (Turn 123).

I built WB/WB/Harbor/Temple of Artemis/Oracle/Library/Parthenon/Colossus plus I think I built a warrior and must have built another WB in there somewhere too.

Could have done much faster in hindsight. I Oracled CoL but didn't need to use it until after the 4 wonders (it is vital to use Castes System to get Great Artists for Literature/Drama and then Scientists for Philosophy).
