Role Play Challenge, TNG: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World!

It's a MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD World!: Part I

I decided to head right into this game, looking to showcase Mad's superior fighting style!

We start by sending our scout SE finding

MSA0000.jpg

Yared94! This world is not big enough for me and the other 17 Civfanatics, and this region is NOT big enough for the 2 of us. Enjoy soem peace, for your days are numbered!

I decide to settle in place.

MSA0001.jpg

Trash land. Some sheep and horses, I need land and FAST!

The tech order went Anial Husbandry/Mining/Archery/Horsebackriding.

The first build order was a worker followed by a barracks right away!

The scout went around the northern lake then west until they came upon

MSA0002.jpg

Bears! However, Mongol scout are tough units facing all sorts of adversaries. As the bearskins were carried back to the capital, the scout popped a hut

MSA0003.jpg

Fishing for one of the most landlocked Civilizations in this map!

For those of you who do not know what to expect on an earth map

MSA0004.jpg

Yep, Mongols got Horses on an irigated hill! That's 5 hammers and comemrce folks. We worked the pastuered horses to build the barracks fast while the worker herded the sheep for Mongol wool and mutton!

While the Mongol capital exclusively pumped out chariots we met Sem

MSA0005.jpg

Impressive chin you got there Sem, you have by any chance visited Michael Jackson's plastic surgeon???

At this point Yared94 mentions something about foul horse odors coming from the NW winds. Such insults cannot be tolerated and I decided to sent the chariots off.

MSA0006.jpg

Three chariots should be more than enough to destroy a warrior based

MSA0007.jpg

Oops! Damn you Yared, how dare you research archery so danged fast. Nevertheless, one archer and one warrior are no match for such well trained Mongol chariots.

MSA0008.jpg

Only losing one chariot. Good, good we spam some replacements because Yared has settled a second city for us.

Meanwhile, our celebration and planning for future chinese blood is rudely interupted by

MSA0009.jpg

Loki of the Persians. Hey wasn't Loki a Norse god or something. Nevermind, if you don't mind I'm busy at the moment perhaps I'll get arouind to killing you later.

However, the popularity and rumour of Mad Scientist's charms and good looks has apparently spread as we get a visit

MSA0010.jpg

Jaaboo! What beautiful hair, what elegant clothes, what language! Still, I fear beneath those looks beats the heart of a brutal male warrior, perhaps someone involved in the dark arts!

Next

MSA0011.jpg

Ah. Mr Took the devil himself, and without a faith yet. Tsk, Tsk. I fully expect a very profitable shrine when Mongolia stretches it's reach towards Arabia.

Now, if you all will excuse me, I have other matters at hand.

MSA0012.jpg

Fellow Civfanatics, let us have a few minutes of silence to remember our fallen friend and fellow poster Yared94.

Well enough of that, onto more important matters.

MSA0013.jpg

2000 BC and we have access to Keshiks and the GER. Note to oneself Mad Scientist, go up the combat line, go up the combat line!

So I saved here, with barracks and defending archers going up. Soon Gers.

And what to research next

MSA0014.jpg

Boy there is alot I can use. Suggestions???

And the explored world

MSA0015.jpg

OK, Gers/keshiks. Got it! What else do I go after next???

I say Mysticism and writing first, then BW and agriculture.

Meanwhile we destroyed one CIVfanatic and still have not gotten a Great General. Damn you Yared94, I expected a better fight!

Well played! Oh god this is going to be too much fun to follow.

According to the Civilopedia, Keshiks aren't immune to First Strikes (unlike Horse Archers), but do have a First Strike.

Is this correct, or did the Civilopedia simply forget to mention it?

My shadow, emperor epic to 1 AD - as we all agreed, all the info will be in one post, and in spoiler. This is one game that I guarantee will go differently than all the others - I will have one shining moment out of all these games against TheMontyInTeam...

Spoiler :

Since I’m 100% confident that TheMontyInTeam is not going to show me any mercy in the other 17 games, I’m not showing him any this game either…

This is the only emperor game in history where I will have the opportunity to warrior rush...so, TMIT, builder of my second capital, say hello to my little friends:

Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

And the next image is very graphic and disturbing…please exercise discretion in viewing - I have spoilered it for the weak of heart:

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

Our fallen hero, TMIT's last defender, lying impaled among the city ruins. Let us have a moment of silence...

It was not meant to be for the Aztecs, and Roosevelt’s warriors stand triumphant amid the burning embers of Tenochtitlan.

Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

But we in America were taught never to look back, we can only look forward…and we look forward to building our wonders in peace and quiet, but first, it appears as if our beloved comrade Neal fared equally as poorly as TheMontyInTeam:

Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

But we must look forward – on to wonders! GW, Mids, Colossus, GLH, this:

Civ4ScreenShot0007.jpg

Yes, IND/ORG, with an early forge and organized religion is truly unfair...This guy is kind enough to pop as I'm about to start the glorious american library:

Civ4ScreenShot0011.jpg

And the last wonder of the segment:

Civ4ScreenShot0012.jpg

TheMontyInTeam's capital is a fine worker/settler pump, allowing me to place plenty if cities while washington focuses on wonders. Many more cities to come, no doubt.

Civ4ScreenShot0013.jpg

I've played this as monty before, never as roosevelt. Exceptionally easy with all civs starting with warriors, but sometimes easy games are fun too!

Round 2 - to 1000 AD. Haven't played Earth18 in awhile, but clearly, I've improved a lot since the last time I played.

Spoiler :

Basic round - just filling out land and going down the wonder path:

Civ4ScreenShot0014.jpg

Then decided to head to music for the artist to continue making Washington an uber-capital.

Founded taoism, zeus, chapel, wat, sankore. And wanted to establish my foothold in the awesome cottage land in south america.

Civ4ScreenShot0021.jpg

Lib - astro. Time to meet some of my fellow fanatics.

Civ4ScreenShot0022.jpg

EDIT: I just realized you only get 30 screens for a single post, right? So I need to be judicious with the screen shots, I guess. Update to 1740 - going to see if I can beat TMIT's 1869 dom date. Will be a close race, I think.

Spoiler :
I went lib-astro, even though it obsoletes colossus. The trade routes will more than make up for it after a few meetings. Meetings were uneventful – everyone behind in tech.

We meet madscientist – looks like he’s having some tech issues, but I decide that it’s time to get me some horses!

Civ4ScreenShot0025.jpg

What would America be without cavalry - thanks Mad! Meanwhile, Yared is really big - he's pleased though, and has more pressing issues, i presume. I’m starting to settle/farm/cottage south America, and finally, once I see people getting close to astronomy, time to mount a force to end the existence of futurehermit, my former BFF. Switch one of my two worker/settler pumps (TMIT and I really played this game similarly – he had two cities doing that as well) to producing units to protect against any surprise attack and start massing my army.

Meanwhile, teching up the democracy line for the first of two gamebreaking wonders for the Americas…and then to physics & communism ideally for the two great people and the most important civic of the game –SP. An engineer comes to help speed along statue.

After we finish communism, it’ll be time to wipe the other fanatics off the face of the earth. Oh, and in my game, DaveMcW appears very unliked as well:

Civ4ScreenShot0027.jpg

Sorry I never got the chance to meet you, Dave. Gamebreaking wonder 1 is complete:

Civ4ScreenShot0028.jpg

By 1740, that meant about 40 specialists with all my cities on the landmass. And the other gamebreaker, Kremlin, will be started very soon. Now, my force lands to backstab poor futurehermit, who has now become pasthermit:

Civ4ScreenShot0029.jpg

I popped a prophet soon after, who I happily used to shrine Cuzco, the powerful jewish holy city. And simply readying the forces with a few more techs, it’s time for my next victim, and time to start claiming more land – first, off, Africa. Mansa was not the superior this game - here was his rogue island city I had to look for after wiping him off africa - war took 10 turns longer than I wanted as a result:

Civ4ScreenShot0032.jpg

While I was finishing him, jaaboo tried a sneak attack:

Civ4ScreenShot0031.jpg

Whatever jaaboo - I killed a few cossacks, got the battlefield random event, and took it for peace - want to deal with him later.

I also finished cristo, allowing for switches – 3 turns in rep, FS, FR, and 1 turn in US, vassalage, theocracy – amazing for massing army while continuing to power tech. Foothold in Africa well established, and bandobras is next…

Civ4ScreenShot0033.jpg

That’s one of three stacks I’m hitting him with at once. Meanwhile, death to madman:

Civ4ScreenShot0034.jpg

In the next segment, it's time to claim all of Africa, which means it’s time to DOW Jaaboo AND madscientist all at once! The next update will see whether or not I can finish the dom win off before TMIT – it’ll be close – I have 79 turns left to pull it off. We both had pretty strong leaders – although Roosevelt might be stronger on this map given all that land to develop on his own. It still will be close, as it'll take some time to finish plowing through Africa, and I haven't started really attacking Europe - intending to do both with power rushbuying in next 20 turns...

EDIT: Final update, to domination win in 1861

Spoiler :

First things first – when using US and Kremlin, I want to maximize our gold. Hammers are important, but I like to rushbuy banks, grocers and markets in my gold cities first. After trading a tech or two around for as much gold as possible, all the gold goes towards rushbuying the gold multipliers for a few turns.

That’ll be the theme of the rest of the game. Tech turned down to a minimum – 10%, at refrigeration. I have a solid tech lead, and no tech necessary after refrigeration. Unfortunately, I’m facing a bit more infantry than TMIT did. Same concepts as his game though - North American and South American waypoints, a couple dedicated drydock cities, and mass unit spam, mainly tanks, artillery and navy seals.

Stupid Yared controls UN and asks for environmentalism as global civic, forcing me to defy. I never should have built the stupid thing – thought I’d control it. Forces me to put culture to 20% for a bit.

And….what seems like about 5 turns later:

Civ4ScreenShot0035.jpg

He does it again. So this sucks. Meanwhile, mad scientist is out of Africa:

Civ4ScreenShot0036.jpg

I take peace from him for a bit

Civ4ScreenShot0037.jpg

Embarrassing, mad, that you would give me a roman city for peace! Beating him won't be relevant for a dom win - Jaaboo and JTMacc are much more important.

Switch focus to Jaaboo and insanity first to take over all of Africa, and then jtmacc and all his culture is my next big target. And for the THIRD time in literally, 20 turns, he gets to throw the environmentalism crap up – how can this come up so fast? I defy for the last time – I’ll go environmental if I have to next time. This is complete crap though.

While fighting both JT and Jaaboo, a resurrection:
Civ4ScreenShot0038.jpg

How did that happen? Dave is back, after being destroyed earlier - weird, weird glitch. He disappeared again 2 turns later – extra weird. Maybe we wanted to make sure I had enough cottages to maximize universal suffrage??? Anyway, back to mowing my way through the world, and Bandobras gives up mecca:

Civ4ScreenShot0039-1.jpg

Think I have all but one holy city now. Check out the gold I'm massing at this point. For these last 40 turns or so, I was rushbuying about 15 units every other turn - no need to tech with that much gold coming in. Coasted through bandobras, semirami and some of mad’s land, and I massed enough firepower to Jaaboo and jtmacc at once, who each put up one heck of a fight. Especially Jaaboo - I slaughtered a couple of GIANT stacks of his, and he actually blew away one of my 30-40 unit stacks of tanks/infantry/artillery. The end of JTMacc:

Civ4ScreenShot0040.jpg

That started the snowball effect on Jaaboo - I had my force split into two opponents before that, but then all my forces landed in Europe and I started to simply ram tanks into Jaaboo's cities - had about 6-7 stacks of 25-30 tanks just mowing through everything.

Also, I was clicking really fast at this point, and some random event popped up that had a few choices involving espionage, but before I could read it, I accidentally clicked a choice, and like 20 tanks showed up in Washington. Anyone know what that random event was? Not that I'm complaining - I shipped them right to the front lines.

And finally, 8 turns before TMIT did it, I finished the dom win:

Civ4ScreenShot0041.jpg

To be fair, though, i had the perfect traitset for having a huge, isolated landmass - wonderspamming in one of my two main cities, and worker/settler pump in the other. No way to really compete with that when you have one super city pounding out wonders and settling all the great people. As you'll see when comparing our times, TMIT also did it a lot faster (although an hour of this time was idle time while I was dealing with my son, but he still was 2 1/2 hours faster).

Even though we used slightly different paths, you can see major similarities, right down to the builds and the score below. Fun game to play as Roosevelt - I've played it before as Monty, but never as Roosevelt.

Civ4ScreenShot0042.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0043.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0044.jpg

Ack. Beijing sucks. Always has, always will. If only it was 1E of its starting location! Of course, this early in the game, you've gotta just capture it and make do. Good job on taking out Qin... er, Yared this early.

I'd say that, at this point, you have everything you need to smash your way to a massive early empire. Now, you need to worry about paying for it. So I'd say Pottery/Writing before everything crashes. But, then, I'm the guy running around with 5-unit stacks in the endgame.

According to the Civilopedia, Keshiks aren't immune to First Strikes (unlike Horse Archers), but do have a First Strike.

Is this correct, or did the Civilopedia simply forget to mention it?

Sure is. Means that with the Ger and all, Flanking II is better than ever on Keshiks. Too bad mad can't use that :D

If this was MP you would have been dead!

MSA0001.jpg

Maybe I'll restart with vassals off...not right away though.

Edit: I did in fact restart with no vassals selected this time. I am posting the Aztec world slaughterhouse in post #3 on this thread.

Edit 2: No offense Yared, but I'm starting to hate you after playing this :p. I suspect Mad, yourself, Japan, and possibly Neal are the only ones who won't encounter a seriously strong chinese nation. Those of us in the americas can't even steer the diplo to prevent china from getting powerful. Usually Qin sucks but not on this map. Enjoy this run, you'll be most people's primary rival ;).

Other than MichMBK's game where TMIT gets wrecked, and futurehermit's if he plays, America is doomed to backwards irrelevance . Michmbk is teching way better than me at each of our checkpoints (1AD and 1000 AD) but both of us are in very strong winning positions. I had to whore a lot of trades though.

Ironically TMIT, you lasted exactly 36 turns in my game, and I lasted 36 turns in yours. I'm shocked we would have such similar starts. At least America will have its one game of glory!

And shockingly, we both made sure we got GLH - those island cities made for insta-profit with every new city. GLH/Colossus/Representation plus settling all but one great person meant an insane tech rate from my capital. At 1000 AD it was bringing in 350 beakers a turn alone.

Neal died 50 turns in in my game, which means Yared is becoming terrifyingly big too.

Looks like you and I are doing the exact same thing now - starting to slowly settle south america - man, it is slow going though. I do sense futurehermit's impending doom in my game too.

Yeah, I don't usually go into S.A. in a big way when playing one of the American civs unless/until I get the Hagia Sophia or run serfdom for a bit. State Property is what really makes S.A. shine (and also makes it affordable  ). But there's a lot of superb land down there, and nobody will be able to match your late game :hammers: .

 I shadowed the game but I'm too lazy to post the stuff.

adddon:

Remind me to properly shadow this game when I get too emperor, kay? :p

Well my game is being seriously atypical....
Spoiler :
...Well, when was the last time that you haven't seen a religion in the Old World until Confu and Christianity? :faint: That is what you get if you don't have Isabella spamming religions , I guess :p

Well, the rest was typical: chariot rush to Paris, chariot rush to Rome, making some wonders, cat + phant to England. Founded and shrined Christianity in Paris, and also did the AP ( I lost control of it fast... damned big world :p ). Rome , after losing it's cap, was mercilessly dogpiled by a 6 member coalition ( from Egypt to Mongolia ) and is out of the game, as well as England and France. Teching Education and will try to Lib Steel and give those infidels ( and not only :D ) a taste of spanish steel in theform of cannon bullets.

A note: Neal and mad are in war for the n-th time... good grief :p

@Mad:

If it's not too much work, could you add a link to post #1 with the shadow games of your fellow fanatics? They all seem to be doing their shadows in a single post, which are scattered through the thread (making them hard to find). I think it'd really enhance the end-user experience (i.e., the rest of us  ). This is a great RPC, btw. :goodjob:

seconded, thats a very good idea!

Looks like everyone is off to a good start.

My shadow as Japan is going up in post #7. Game is done but I'll be putting it up in pieces - i.e. as I feel like organizing all the pictures I took.

Mad, you're doing just terrible in my shadow game. It's 200AD and you are last on the scoreboard. Even England, without London, is scored better, than you. Did I mentioned, that you don't have Mistycism and Agriculture yet.

Even France without Paris and one city in Ireland is doing better than you
