Mazera Mega Story Thread

Votakara's situation grows grave
The hopes of reaching into Votakara's mind has greatly diminished after the assassination of a volounteering Austrin mind mage. The death of the mage seems to have made clear that there are still enemies seeking the death of the Commander, and that these are very close to him.

The mage was found in a large pool of his own blood, and some of it had been used to write a message on the walls of his room. It reads that this fate awaits any and all who seek to aid Votakara.

Spoiler :
Telemachus watched his chosen, Icarus, from far above. He watched young Icarus as he would any fledgling. The longer that he spent in Icarus’ time the more he came to see himself as the boy’s father. Although the boy was in his twenties, he was dwarfed by the hundreds of years that Telemachus had been wandering this weary world. It was his love for Icarus that made it hard for him to continue with their plan, Our plan. He hated to distress Icarus, but he knew what must be done. Icarus must be shown the blight of Mankind. He must see that the “gods” brought only strife to those they lord over. And he would be shown, soon. Until then, Telemachus took the protection of Icarus with stony seriousness. No one would stop the boy from leading the world into a new age. Not even the overgrown spider that had been following them for hours. There was work to be done. The “gods” would be overthrown, the world born anew. Icarus would lead them into the dawning of the age of Man and Machine, and Telemachus would guide him on the way.

Mazatle Court
Spoiler :
Kh’Khun sat on the throne, a heavily engraved piece of stone, and looked out over the audience chamber. He had frequented the chamber when his uncle, Hianthrough, had ruled, but he had never really studied court proceedings. He allowed his gaze to slide along the walls. Since the new palace was located some distance un a mountain, the room actually had walls to keep out the occasional cool wind. The main decoration was his personal banner, an emerald plain with a scarlet wyvern in profile, and with crossed swords above. There was also a banner with the Swallow of Votakara, in commemoration of Votakara, and his current struggle. The Mazatle had healers tending to Votakara, with the Priests of Omarr having the greatest success, but the human was still slipping.
Behind the throne was coiled Coatlann, sleeping. Kh’Khun had been chosen as leader of the Maztle after the peace treaty with Mizquatl. He had left the battle fields of the Sheim for now, as had Coatlann, but would be returning soon. He looked at the beurocrate that had been talking for some time know, noticing he had stopped. Kh’Khun gave a generic response, before looking back at the huge map of the Sheim front, were soldiers still clashed with Sheim and burnt their lands. Soon, so soon…

Spider Short
Spoiler :
The spider continued to follow this lone man. He was doing nothing worth reporting to Mother, but he was still too strong for the spider to overcome. It would continue to wait and grow, watching this man. It had begun to attempt to take the man down, but the attempts never worked as they weren't that well crafted. The man easily tripped over the line of web between two trees, but as the web was wrapping itself around his legs, he easily just cut it off as if it were nothing but butter. Which was the strange part, as his species of spider was bred specifically to have web like mithril. Actually, that is interesting enough to report to Mother. The spider realized this and scurried away towards the Archos lands and his dear Mother.

revolt

King Alexander is furious by the betrayal of the Illians. He blames the Ashen Veilian ruling party, for their buddy-buddy nature with the Illians. Especially Mal'DeGrashni.

Tasunke was the main symbolic ruler of the hippus, and with him gone, there is a large power vacuum. Alexander, of blood relation to Tasunke (nephew), has turned the armies of the hippus against those that support the Veil. Even the new assasins, which had been trained under Mal'deGrashni's men, now support the new king. Judecca has been reported to of fled to AlpharBane, and declared it a new country. A magical raven was seen flying from Alpharbane to the Fane of Lessers. Rhoanna has declared official peace with the Clan and the Luchuirp, and as a peace offering a shipment of Mithril is being sent to the Luchuirp under Aroul guard. Mal'deGrashni has gone into hiding, and the Doviello are suffering rebellion as well, as many pack leaders have now discovered they were being pulled by the strings of foreign influence.

Most of the Veil leaders have been either arrested or killed in their sleep. Others have successfully fled to Alpharbane, with a small portion of the hippus treasury. Although many demons under Lazarus's rule are calling for war against the hippus, Lazarus is attempting to calm them down, saying now is not the time. He has however, officially and unofficially broken from hippus rule, becoming an independent nation (for now) and is harboring Judecca. A few veil followers have gone into hiding within hippus lands, although the number of veil sympathizers is quite few. A mysterious robed man, quite charismatic, has travelled into the Hippus lands, speaking the light of the ways of Empyrean. In a time of duress and confusion the religion spreads like wildfire. In a matter of days most cities have begun a cult following of the religion, and in a matter of weeks temples have been erected in most major cities.

A few of the demon-borne of the hippus were killed by over-zealous rebels, however most of the demon-borne escaped to Alpharbane. A few were sheltered by Sympathizers, and currently are living in an outpost were most of the hell-riders also chose to live. They are living in rag-tag conditions, not wishing to harm their brethren, however not wishing to be harmed themselves. It is said the hooded man is there talking with them, and there are rumors of him able to exorcise the demons out of the humans. This would make them no longer demon-borne however, but it has yet to be known the personalities of these exorcised humans. Official decree is to no longer kill any demon-borne, and that they are welcome to return and to be exorcised. One demon-borne currently holed up in Alpharbane sent a letter in response, wishing to join the hippus AND keep their symbiosis. Although that sentiment is rare among the demon-borne.

King Alexanders has sent envoys to the Doviello, to cease war with the Luchuirp and to join the hippus cause, although it is uncertain the outcome of such talks, as it seems each day a new ruling party takes control of the Doviello "capital." Meanwhile Mahala is still in hiding. Some rumours state that Mal'deGrashni was never her friend and has her under lock and key somewhere. Others think she is hiding with Mal'deGrashni. Others yet think she ran away long ago, and is waiting for the Doviello to stabilize before she returns.

Cassiel Supports King Alexander

Reacting to the tumultuous turn of events in the Hippus nation, Cassiel of the Grigori Empire has stepped forth to be the first to support Alexander's claim to the Hippus throne. Cassiel has praised Alexander's abolishment of the Ashen Veil state religion, and has high hopes that the Hippus will follow in the Austrin footsteps and take the enlightenment, but not the church, of Empyrean philosophy. Beside him, Varn Gossam does not share the last wish, but also gives his praise and hopes for enlightened leadership of the Hippus, and offers to teach Alexander himself if the other so wishes.

Cassiel's recognition also comes with an offer: the Grigori Empire will gladly offer it's services to negotiate a peace between the Hippus and Clan, now that the primary causes of that war have been removed. Recent trade deals have made the Clan look favorably upon their Grigori neighbors, and Cassiel believes that an offer of minor compensation should pacify the Clan.

KAFAHN NEGOTIATES PEACE

Ishlar Kafahn of the Clan of Chaos has negotiated peace between the Clan and Hippus nations. Kafahn is very supportive of the new King Alexander and has pledged to help in any way he can. All Clan warriors have been withdrawn from Hippus lands and the borders have once again opened to Hippus traders.

Open letter from: Warlord Ishlar Kafahn
To: King Alexander of the Hippus

Greetings,

I am glad we have brought peace to our nations as I have long respected the Hippus and their prowess in battle. We would like to trade our gems to you in exchange for a shipment of mithril weapons. If this trade sounds fair to you, please accept. If not, I am open to any offers you have. I hope this peace lasts forever, friend.

Sincerely,
Ishlar Kafahn

Don't forget the Onstad Hastil offer. The offer ends in three hours.
You can also PM me a letter from your nation if you want to do it in secret and have a chance that the Elohim won't find out.

Open letter from: Warchief Corane of the Archos
To: Onstad Hastil

Greetings,

I will buy a copy of the map as I have need of it. Send an emissary with the map and I will give you 200 gold, iron weapons, and a bonus of the newest strain of spider venom. I am sure you will find use for it.

Sincerely,
Warchief Corane

-------------------------------------------------------------

Map updated. Austrin have been pushed off the Fane of Lessers and the Infernals have invaded the islands closest to them. They are now dangerously close to the mainland.

King Alexander sends a noble emissary escorted by the Knights of Radonnor to the Malakim encampment. They offer to escort Varn Gosam back to hippus lands temporarily in order for him to teach Alexander and his inner circle of the full nature of the Empyrean. Varn will also be able to make a grand tour of hippus lands, giving talks to the crowds of major hippi cities.

If Varn accepts this offer, the hippus will send work crews and volunteer immigrants to expand the malakim settlements. Most of the volunteers are those who suffered full from the Veil tyranny and wish to make a new life in a distant land.

The Grigori Revolution: The Grigori Empire Becomes the Grigori Republic

After months of protests over the Vassalization of Varn Gossam, new threads of egalitarian Grigori philosophies, and popularly support pressed by the Svartalfar-funded Demos movement, Cassiel has at last responded by enacting sweeping reforms in the governance of the Grigori Empire. Nobles, previous appointed by commission and subject to popular recall, are now appointed by election. A independent court system is also set up, though these judges have no need for re-election. And a popularly elected legislature of nobles is charged with writing and reviewing laws.

It is well known the Cassiel has long had a distrust of a popularly-elected system of government, fearing political parties and concentrations of interests, but for once the Grigori people as a whole have decided they believe differently and have denied his consul. Faced with such a popular defeat, Cassiel has turned his thoughts on how best to make the system work, and has drawn on the thoughts of many philosophers in the process. Separation of powers, public oversight, these are some of the restrictions he hopes will keep the rulers honest and their hearts safe from the machinations of evil or good gods. The system itself is still vague and being developed, though, and so the Grigori government is expected to stall as the reforms are enacted, tested, and refined.

What is known is that Cassiel turned down the offer for the initial office of Consul, the chief executive of the new Grigori Republic, a post popularly elected. Though no other candidate sought to challenge him, Cassiel wisely preferred not to be involved with such political maneuverings. Cassiel's requested position was that of the Elder Statesman: an unelected position in the Legislature granted to the longest-serving member of the legislature. Having only the power vote in order to break ties, and only tasked to manage some of the Legislatures procedures, the Elder Statesmen is mostly above the process of day-to-day politics, and yet can be a persuasive force in the nation as a whole. Just as Cassiel prefers it.

There was also some confusion as to what role the Malakim would play in the new republic, their status as vassals being one of the prime instigators of reform. The current proposed solution to adequately represent their unequal status is to give each vassal a seat at the Consul's Council, the chief ministers for the chief executive, and for each vassal state to be given a single seat in the legislature. Details on how those will work will be handed later.

Many nations have been taken aback by this development, and watch with interest as the Grigori attempt new modes of politics. The total abolishment of hereditary positions and the introduction of popularly elected positions has intrigued some and horrified others. Dural scholars watch with interest and curiosity as to how the Grigori Experiment will play out, their own government not too attached to ranks of nobility or pedigree, but rather only one's mind. On the other end, Queen Faeryl of the Svartalfar is aghast and disgusted at what her gold and machinations have brought about.

Though Grigori troops at the front have been taken aback by the changes ocuring at home, and there is sure to be much disconnect when they return, perhaps Cassiel was wise to announce the reforms when he did: the war will be over by the time the confusion is over, and this way there won't be an excess of armed and trained men to protest the changes in the street.

Cassiel supports whatever Varn Gossam desires, whether to accept the Hippus offer or refuse. In light of the current confusion as the Grigori Empire shifts forms of governments, it may well be best if bureaucrats be free to redevelop the means of relations and interaction without interference by their lords. When, if, Varn Gossam returns, Cassiel welcomes him to speak in the Grigori Progress during it's opening session.

(Because a Congress would be the opposite of Progress, and the Grigori don't want confliction or conning or any other malady.)

Open letter from: Varn Gosam of the Malakim
To: King Alexander of the Hippus

Greetings,

I would gladly go to your lands and educate you and your people in the ways of the Empyrean. The Empyrean believes in redemption and you shall have your chance to show your nation has been redeemed from the vile demons. I eagerly await to meet you and shake your hand for the work you've done for the Hippus. I shall be there within a week.

Sincerely,
Varn Gosam

Please welcome to the world, General Gristav, leader of Gristav's Legion, member of the Circle of Urd. Gristav's Legion is the most feared group of warriors in the Doviello nation due to their tendency to take mind altering drugs before combat, lessening their pain, increasing their adrenaline, and focusing their minds.

Gristav's Battle
Spoiler :
Gristav pulled his blade out of another dwarf skull and swung it at a golem to his left. The blade cut into the iron and knocked the golem off balance. Gristav jumped on the golem and shoved his blade through its head before turning to see the dwarven advance. His legion took notice and charged at the dwarves, thirsty for blood. Gristav took down the last golem in the field and raced to join his legion in battle.
The dwarves fought bravely, swinging mighty axes that sunk themselves into Doviello skulls or severing heads and limbs. Gristav swung his blade at a dwarf, but was knocked off balance when the dwarf parried his strike. The dwarf raised his axe and swung it down towards Gristav before slicing into another Doviello beastman who sacrificed himself for his general. Gristav roared and pulled the dwarf towards him. He grabbed the dwarf's jaw and jerked it down, snapping tendons and bones and dislodging the jaw.
Gristav threw the dying dwarf to the ground, picked up his blade and let out another roar. The roars of his legion answered him and he was filled with pride. He charged at another dwarf, relishing in the combat and hearing the voice of Camulos himself. War was his drug and the dwarves were his enablers. And the dwarves kept dying. And dying and dying.

Edit: Are my stories really short or is it just my screen making it look that way?

Ok, that explains it. I was trying to figure out if they were short if I had a wide screen. Anyway, 40 minutes left for the Hastil offer. Elohim map of all the unique features. 200 gold and a shipment of iron weapons. PM me if you want to do it through the Undercouncil so the Elohim don't find out, but it'll cost an extra 50 gold.
