ZPNESV: Flowers on the Razor Wire (World Conquest)

The update is underway EDIT: COMPLETED, I believe there are no missing orders this time, for which I am very grateful :salute:

To: The Technocratic Republic of Columbia
From: Brazilia

Your offer sounds too good to be true, therefore we must assume this is the case. We are well aware that your alliance has crushed all independent states in the north. We do not seek war with your alliance, but nor we will be fooled into a false sense of security.

To: Brazilia
From: Technocratic Republic of Columbia

What we were doing in the north is reuniting the fallen nation of Canada, and the population of what was once the Western United States. We went to war with the Seaboard nation for their aggressive movements against our ally in the Midwest, and against Gran Colombia for the sinking of our undefended transport in the Caribbean, and the subsequent deaths of its crew.

With Brazilia, we have no claim, historical or otherwise, to your nation, and believe that a good friendship could be forged in mutual combat against the Gran Colombians.

However, we respect your right to make your own political decisions, and bid you good day.

1941:
A New World Order

The Shogunate continues to grab more Pacific outposts, but the real fighting is confined to Europe and South America. North America, Africa, and much of Asia are at peace, although the Empire of the Far East is encirlced by powerful forces on all sides. The Union of Soviet Socialist Belki involves itself in more European intrigue, and perhaps misjudges the power of Duckistan's armoured forces... Taking advantage of its squabbling neighbours, the Duckistan Empire has doubled in size since 1939, and this year becomes surely the greatest empire in world history. But will it last?

NEW PROTOTYPE UNITS AVAILABLE
Having received more support than disapproval, I have decided to implement this feature.

EDIT: The normal units will always be available still, these are *additional* options.

Spoiler DETAILS :
The idea is that you have to build the prototypes at first, which are more expensive. And guess what, a dice is rolled for each prototype built:

  • 1 or 2 is a failure, you don't even get the prototype, but get 1/2 the money back (rounded down)
  • 3 or 4 means you get the prototype unit to use, but you still have to pay the prototype cost in future.
  • 5 or 6 means the technology is perfected, and you only pay the normal price in future. You also keep the prototype unit(s).

If we get to 1952, every new unit that has been perfected (by anyone) will be available (to everyone) at normal price. Those that were never built at all will be lost forever, and a new set of prototypes will be available.

Edit: details moved to front page.

Other Notes:
NPC states in Brasilia and New Zealand have built new units (!)

I decided that aircraft attacking alone (IE without friendly ships or troops in the same attack) will only get two combat rounds before withdrawing.

The transport in the north sea contains storm troopers, not ordinary infantry.

When you switch capitols peacefully, the old one is removed from the game.

RE: penalties for betraying alliances - I don't want artificial punishments, but I think there should be more incentive for keeping alliances going. What do you think?

This turn, I don't feel so bad for the USSB, because they were being sneaky ;)

OOC: Shouldn't I also have a tank in Sinkiang?

Hmm- I'm still under the opinion that we have not yet fully explored the current unit range, but I'm cool with the prototypes. :) BTW, there's a problem with the map link.

I guess Supermath is counting on his own allies being faithful :)

OOC: Shouldn't I also have a tank in Sinkiang?

Maybe, but re-reading your orders and last turn's map, I don't see why right now.

EDIT: the map still works for me, Iggy. Although its probably cashed or whatever.

BTW, the new prototypes are additional options, the old units on the front page are still buildable, I just want to point that out if it wasn't clear :)

I don't see how Duckistan launching an attack from my territory would be controversial, since I was betrayed by the USSB.

Well yes in that context I don't see it as contraversial, but I'm assuming it was ordered before Duckistan knew about the betrayal, and while you were neutral. Using allied territory to attack a third party (one which is not at war with your ally) is not cool IMO :)

@Lord_Iggy, I've added it as an attachment to the update. It took two attempts, got a 'invalid image' first time. Its almost at the 500kb limit for image uploads, I dunno if thats causing problems viewing it :dunno: I can try Imageshack next :)

On the new prototypes: the helicopter seems a tide unbalanced, but maybe that's just me.

Umm I should probably playtest some battles with these new units :) The helicopter will crash and die anytime it rolls a 1, though. Which seems quite often in this game.

Yes, the rocketeer and helicopter seemed very powerful, until you realize that statistically, even if they're firing at powerless enemies, they can't be expected to survive for more than 6 battles. They might be good units to use in very specific situations, but they could never be do-it-all generalists like our basic collection of units.

BTW, the image still doesn't work, for some reason, but Lucky has kindly provided me with a file, so I've got the map now. :)

Expect some revisions with these prototypes, I'll upload revised rules once I've done some testing :o

@Lord_Iggy, any idea what's wrong with the map? Maybe PNG's just aren't supposed to be this large in scale, or 256 colour for that matter...

Nah, I can see every other image on this thread, and it's no big deal- I've got a copy of the map on my computer. :)

EDIT: Oh, and Kraz, it is significant because one of the Helicopter's Greatest Advantages is its ability to escape, which is nullified by its ability to undergo spontaneous existence failure whenever it rolls low and thus needs to escape.

Yes, things like that make me wonder about unit matchups. Who gets priority in determining which unit gets which? Helicopters are not a great idea against infantry.
