Science and Technology Quiz 4

The sun must be to the left of the moon, because the lit part of the moon is on the left. Since Ireland is in the northern hemisphere, he must be looking at least partially south to see the moon. Since he is looking south and the sun is to the left, the sun must be to the east, and it is about to rise. Assuming the Irishman works during the day, he is about to get up.

If the building in the middle of the picture is a church, then it's been viewed end-on, either from the east or the west.

Or is it a bit more artistic license ?

@previous question: You can often see Venus during the day, and it could be further away than the sun :)

Bang on! :goodjob: You're up.

Complete: position, velocity, acceleration, ______, _______

I used to know this... mind's gone blank =/ They're quite "normal" words associated with movement, IIRC.

Not quite.

Bang on! :goodjob: You're up.
Oh, I can't allow such high praise.

That's not true! The moon doesn't orbit directly over the equator at all times. Much like how the sun travels between the tropic of cancer and tropic of Capricorn the moon does something similar. Given that Ireland's most southern point is 51.37°N, I would highly suspect that it would be above that line, however I don't know that exact line, and in any case the simple fact that it's in the Northern hemisphere is insufficient.

Still, Good question, and good reasoning. :goodjob:

edit: jerk and there's no consistently used version afterwords, I recall snap being one used by some.

I checked wiki on that:
Lunar_perturbation.jpg

The inclination is ~5 degrees, so the moon will never be to the North any further North than ~30 degrees.

Admittedly I only checked this after I posted the question though :p

EDIT: Hang on I think I've made a big mistake in reading that chart... :ack:

Blech, someone else figure it out :p

I know!

JOUNCE and JERK

EDIT: I think jerk is a' and jounce is a''. EDIT2: But it could be tother way round.

Jounce is a great word to play in Scrabble.

Perfy gets it. ParadigmShifter could have had chance if not for EDIT2, since it meant Perfy was closer to being right. I do wonder why the different versions in British English though.

Meh, we all know Perfy's just gonna say open floor like he does most of the time ;)

Then you have the floor if he gives it up.

Well I'm running out of questions but we'll go for this easy one:

What sort of curve is a rainbow?

There's a fairly easy way to see the answer to this question, do you know what it is?
