ZPNESV: Flowers on the Razor Wire (World Conquest)

EDIT: UPDATE BELOW!

PROTOTYPES have been revised thusly (edit: revised again):
edit#2: moved to front page

NEW RULE: Paratroopers and Air Transport: Bombers can transport a single foot soldier while rebasing, or drop them as paratroopers in combat, provided the bomber does not actually bomb anything that turn. EDIT: Note that there is a 1/6 chance of the paratroopers dying from accidents before even getting into combat.

Who cares about evasion when you can beat a tank straight up four times in a turn?

Helicopters cannot capture territory by themselves, which I should have repeated. They can technically be in 4 battles per turn, but once they make an evasion save, their turn ends, so its unlikely.

Yes, things like that make me wonder about unit matchups. Who gets priority in determining which unit gets which? Helicopters are not a great idea against infantry.

This is a difficult issue, and I guess this game is already suffering from 'rule creep'. Defender has priority, but air units can attack whatever they like. I decide matchups based on what I think is appropriate to the situation, and based on overall orders. I'm going to be rolling dice to see if subs can sneak past destroyers to attack transports etc.

It can't intercept aircraft that are just passing over the territory. But in normal battles it will be able to actively target an enemy aircraft instead of a ground unit.

Rumblings

The wind gently blew onto her exposed neck, satisfying her skin with cool air from the sea. Magna Grecia was at peace, and the Empress was happy. For six long terrible years the aftershock wars had ravaged Eurasia, but her lands stayed at peace, from Epirus to Jerusalem. Her chief advisor, Aetos, walked up to her and bowed. \"Your Majesty, it is time you return to the council chambers. The annual discussion of our foreign commitments is scheduled to begin soon.\"

At the council, she sat on the Byzantine throne, quiet as usual during the usual discussions and deliberations until the very end. It wasn\'t a very enthralling discussion, she thought. The triple alliance was popular, and unlikely to be changed even if they were technically the junior partner, since it deterred any invasion for the last few years.

But then the messenger came. \"Uslavia has fallen. The Muslims did not send our share of its taxes this turn.\"

Was the Triple Alliance breaking? The Muslims were constantly under attack, while Duckistan seemed to be outgrowing them as they trampled under Eurasia.

\"We cannot afford to remain passive forever,\" Theodora stood, and dismissed the council. Survival was at stake, and she would have to play her hand well.

@Katrina, great story :D

@Ninja_Dude and Littleboots (edit: and Vertinari118), do you plan to send orders?

I have orders from everyone else (I think :)), but I'm afraid I don't actually have time this evening. Update tommorrow guaranteed :)

Also, those new units are revised again (!), at the top of this page, and in the update. I kinda regret doing all this, although nobody has bought any yet anyway. The main fiddle is that the Flakker now has a strength of 3, but 0 against armoured units.

Also, something I forgot to mention, Sniper has the 'Hide' save (except against other snipers), which is like the sub's dive ability. If successful, it won't leave the territory, it just lurks until next turn. It doesn't contest control of the territory while lurking. A territory can be officially captured, but still have enemy snipers in it.

Regarding unit match-ups in combat, I made some misleading comments about this. More details are below. But basically, its all Fair & Balanced™ and you don't need to worry about it :)

Spoiler details :
Note that aircraft, helicopters and artillery attack separately, in that order, at the start of each combat round, and always get to choose their targets.

Then the ground (or sea) fight begins. In general, the defender decides which of its units face which of the enemy's. When there is no defender, I'll roll a dice to see who chooses. BUT, if one side outnumbers the other, it still gets to choose which of its units are reserved for the 'flanking' attacks. Some units are not on the front line - transports and artillery always hide behind other units, if there is one unit to cover each. Flakkers also try to avoid the front line if they engage enemy aircraft (either return fire during air attack phase, or more likely a deliberate attack during this phase). In any case, no unit has more than one chance to kill another per combat round.

There are more complications with the Subs and the Snipers. Subs have to roll on or under their 'dive' rating (like a saving throw) for every enemy destroyer present. Snipers have to do the same with their 'hide' rating, for every opposing Sniper. If successful, they get to pick their own choice of (non-air) target regardless ('Initiative'), but only for that round. They are still vulnerable to 'flank' attacks by any unit that was going to engage them.

So subs will rarely be able to sneak past destroyers to attack transports, while snipers could potentially sneak past the front line to attack artillery, although Snipers aren't great against vehicles (a Special Forces unit could appear later).

It all makes sense to me :trophy:

I wish I was around for all this cool new stuff. *Starts formulating plans to return*:D

Update incoming, ETA +2 hours.

Today I realised I don't have Katrina / Hellenic Empire's orders. I now have orders from everyone else though, which makes me happy.

Yes you got them. At first I thought this was the update and I was screwed but I'm not, which is a good thing.

OMG DAFT I MAKE AMENDMENT

Research Rocketeer instead of buying a tank. kthx

:salute: Theige and the Brave Empire of the Far East :salute:

I listened to the Hearts of Iron 2 soundtrack while updating this.

  • The green flashy things show which units are newly built.
  • The Prototype units are now on the front page, in the 'unit shop', if anyone is looking for them.
  • Guardian AI built a transport and wanted to gift it to the USSB. I have decided not to allow this sort of thing. The transport will only follow Vertinari118's orders. But if you are allies, you can load units onto each others transports and stuff anyway.
  • Transports only fight defensively, which is why there was no battle in the South China Sea.
  • The USSB's provinces are connected by unchallenged sea routes.
  • I've decided that Aircraft can hop across from Korea (Kanchurea) to Japan (Great Honshu) as one move, like they can hop across english channel and gibraltar and possibly some other places :)
  • FYI: Artic Sea has access to Karelia, and North West Pacific has access to Okhotsk, and North East Pacific has access to Alaska.

@Lord_Iggy, I loaded your troops onto your own transport, unless you have a special reason for them to go on Luckymoose's. It is OK to load onto a transport that has already moved.

@Luckymoose, just so you know, you could rebase fighters to the carrier, and still have the carrier move that turn.

I did have a reason to use Lucky's transport- because I was loading my Siege Tank into my transport. Am I not allowed to transport siege tanks?

@Lord_Iggy, siege tanks can use transports, but due to a temporal distortion I was unable to see that part of your orders.

The map has been transfixiated to reflect Lord_Iggy's orders.

I did order for him to use it I think anyway. Awesome Update! South America will soon be Fascists forever!

@Luckymoose yes you did mention it.

EDIT: someone has asked something, aircraft can hop across from Korea (Kanchurea) to Japan (Great Honshu) as one move, like they can hop across english channel and gibraltar and possibly some other places :)

EDIT#2: re-re-uploaded map due to graphical errors.
