SLYNES - Swirly Lights Yonder, a Never Ending Story

Spoiler :
Race Name: Bako Tellian
Appearance: The Bako Tellians are an amphibious species. They average around 7 feet in height, around 300 pounds. Their skeletal structure is similar to that of a human’s with the exception of the tailbone. The tailbone extends in the opposite direction of the human tail bone about 3 – 4 feet. They have 16 digits; 8 toes, four webbed toes on each foot, and 8 webbed fingers, with one thumb on each hand and three accompanying fingers. They have streamlined bodies with fin like appendages on the top of their heads, on their shoulder blades, and on the side of their calf muscles. The tip of the tail contains a collapsible fin which is used for swifter swimming. Their facial structure is a cross between a human and a dolphin’s, they are long nosed, and have thin lips with tiny teeth, not meant for eating meat. They posses gills on their neck. The Bako Tellians have three abdominal pairs of organs that produce electricity: the Main organ, the Hunter's organ, and the Sachs organ. These organs comprise four-fifths of its body. These organs are made of electrocytes, lined up so that the current flows through them and produces an electrical charge. When a Bako Tellian needs to produce electricity, the brain sends a signal through the nervous system to the electric cells. This opens the ion channel, allowing positively-charged sodium to flow through, reversing the charges momentarily. By causing a sudden difference in voltage, it generates a current. Due to the fact that their society is primarily underwater they are all around the same skin color, a light tone of gray.
Civilization Name: Bako Sphere Alliance
Location:?
Culture: Bako Tellians primarily live underwater, and work the land for mining, agriculture, and manufacturing. Though their planet is made of small loosely connected island chains, since they are strong, fast swimmers the distance between islands is not relevant. The main source of power for the Bako Tellians is a system of underwater turbines which harness the power of strong under water currents, which they also use to travel to island systems that are further away. On the planet of Bako there are four major island clusters, within these clusters are anywhere from 50- to 70 small islands, The Tellians have come to identify themselves by which Cluster they live on, then by which island specifically they come from. Communities, depending on the size of the island, can range from sections of the island or the island itself. Families normally consist of 5 to 6 individuals, as the female Tellians produce eggs on an average of times over the course of her life, and are fertilized by the male when necessary. At the beginning of their society the Tellians believed in a series of fish-like gods that pulled their islands apart over time. However, recently they have discovered plate tectonics which has launched an agnostic like belief system, in which many believe that there is a higher power, but frown upon the idea of giant fish as ridiculous. They are omnivores, and eat anything from plants to small shrimp. Though capable of verbal communication often communicate with a range of pulses that they can distinguish to mean a range of thoughts, and emotions. They are a close knit species and have not had many wars with one another. This is due to the fact that in the Bakoan oceans there are giant Shark-like creatures that feed on anything. As a way to defend themselves, the Tellians will band together and attach themselves to the sharks and generate an incredibly strong pulse to electrocute the shark.
The Tellians rely on to major forms of transportation; the first is the inter-cluster sub-aquatic trains which are giant vessels made to “ride” with the undersea currents from one cluster to the other. Their other form of transportation is an evolution of a drawn carriage. In the beginning of their “modernization” the Tellians used wagons with wheels pulled by strong amphibious creatures that are a crude mix between horses and alligators to pull their carriages. This practice was continued until Tellians began realizing how new ways to utilize their own electrical currents. After the introduction of the first semi-automobiles scientists on the Stoac cluster, where many of the technological innovations have come from on the planet Bako, invented the storage unit. The storage unit, which is worn like a belt, lightly pulls electric charges from their bodies and can be removed and used as a battery which is used for traversers (cars), and little electronic devices. However, the m
ajor power source comes from the current turbines, which provide power for homes and buildings. Tellians primarily live underwater a little ways off of the coast of their respective islands. It is not uncommon for a Tellian to live on the coast as; there is no difference between a Tellian that lives on the land versus the water except for a darker appearance. The Tellians who do live above land are given the nickname “steppers”. In return those who live underwater are called “squirmers” for the way they swim at high speeds. Different clusters overall have different functions (this is just a generalization) Stoac is in the northern area of the planet, and the most technologically advanced, many a revolutionary genius has come from Stoac. No other continent can be given more credit to the modernization of the Bako Tellians than Stoac. The Hacendilla cluster is responsible for 15 out of the twenty wars on the planet with all but two involving nothing but islands from their clust
er. The Hascon cluster located along the Bako equator has is the only one capable of growing certain “herbs”. These supplements have made them a valuable part of the Tellian culture. Finally, there is the Cluster of Guole. Guole is considered to be the center for the Tellian arts. Though it does not contribute anything physical to Tellian culture, it is home to many, writers, musicians, painters and artists of all kinds.. . …. More to come
Government:. . The Tellian governmental system is an odd one. In all of Tellian history there has only been twenty wars, mostly all over underwater territory. The biggest being the Clustoral Division when the planet was divided into the four clusters. Due to the powerful unspoken bond all Tellians have with one another, they legitimately care for one another, and seldom sacrifice one another for personal gain… with that being said they do recognize a need for a government of sorts and appoint a leader from their community. From there, the community leaders meet at a neutral point from each cluster, and voice their opinions, and from there cluster voices (representatives) are picked, then the cluster leaders meet and choose the Supreme Tellian, whose voice rules overall. The interesting part is that there is never an election that takes place. Tellians are so sensitive to the electric fields the produce that they read different Tellian fields as “volumes” whoever is “of age”, the human equivalent of 30 (sometimes more sometimes less) and has the loudest “volume” is chosen as the leader of the community. This procedure is carried out at all levels of government, until the Supreme Tellian is chosen. The shift in power happens every ten years
Domestic policy: I believe that this is covered in Government… whoops.
Xenopolicy: About 40 years ago the Bako Tellians began attempting to settle their satellite Lelsh. Upon landing the Tellians found a race of small slug-like creatures, and began eliminating them. Shortly after, they fled. The team that went to settle Bako could not believe how on edge they were at this new life form, especially since in retrospect they posed no harm. Afterward a research team went back and captured some of the slugs for research purposes. They found them to be no smarter than a Bako slug, or anywhere near as dangerous. Scientists were led to believe that since the slug emitted no electrical current, and the Tellians were not used to seeing this new creature they were instantly defensive and began attacking. The current Supreme Tellian stated upon discovering this that, for the sake of interstellar piece that Bako Tellians were only allowed to use such force once a clear threat has been made. However, this will not stop Tellians from emitting strong pulses wh
en frightened when confronted with extreme adversity...
Personal Names: Gao Supreme is the current leader of the planet.
Planet Names: There is the planet Bako, which is where most Bako Tellians live, and the settlement in progress on Lelsh, which is the satellite.
Star Names: Brighteye
Ship Names: The main flagship of the Bako Tellians is the Escheria…Conceived immediately after the Lelsh incident known as “The Discovery” created to be the ultimate weapon of the Bako Tellians.

You're a business major.. where did all that biology come from? I really like the names you made up for some of the technologies, and the Gator-horse drawn carriage. Hopefully we can find a picture for them soon.

Like the new races, guys :) Deadline is up by now, and I'll be getting Update Zero online tomorrow (Wednesday). Any new races will not be applied until Update One (skipping the first turn), but are certainly still welcome. You guys can fill up this galaxy as much as you want, as long as we keep to one race per player :)

@Thedreadedlock: I noticed you put a question mark for your race's location. All I need for that part is for you to pick a spot on the galactic map found in my first post. Just select a coordinate location (written in X/Y format, or "top letter/side letter"), and if there are multiple stars in that sector, pick which one you want to start in ("F/G, Right" for example).

@Bil Ok I would like I/H right then,

@Anonymoose, yeah I am a man of many talents...when I think of the creatures I think of something like this
S&G.jpg
of course they would be smaller. They are called Nabe Turribos.

Are they that color? That's pretty freaking awesome.

They come in a wide range of colors and patterns. Think of them as dogs that we have and how different dogs can be from one another, and yeah I would love to have one as a pet.

inbeforethe..

*doug!*

Just to let you guys know, I'm having a more difficult time getting this organized and pieced together than I was expected, so I might be delayed until tomorrow. I'm still going to try to get it up tonight, but if not, definitely tomorrow... I hope! Sorry, but between exhaustion, being at work while working on this, and my inexperience thus far, it's slow going. Bear with me, please! :)

Interested, but I think that the grid should have some weeding-out for now to focus on the game and not land-grab.

Amphibian guys look beast, we should have a slimy things alliance with the squid people and take over everyone, the germ people might count as slimy too though, and they sorta creep me out.

speaking of the germ peoples, since they don't make their own names, we should collectively elect something to call them.

Despite appearances, the Hletho are actuall not slimy. They are hard in some areas- the segmented legs- but soft and covered with a downy fur over the rest of their body.

@Bil I'm still reading up on the other races, and thinking of more potential ideas for my own, so I don't mind waiting :)

fine, you can be kicked out of my alliance of the slimies. i was originally gonna make it alliance of the reptilians, but amphibians aren't reptiles, so it's the slimies, even though the Nhroaat are usually dry, they look slimey like skinks.
