The game was accepted!
I hereby attach the only screenshot taken during the game, showing the 3 coal on the opponent's coneinent during the time I controlled them :

Well, I'm going on in duel maps.
This time though, the objective is space colony.

I looked in the HoF and saw many used Great_Plains map type for space.. is there a reason?? It is small - is that some sort of advantage to maintnance or something ??

Ok, everyone who has number 1 at duel on space colony, be aware, booga is on the way!

I start with settler.
Ofcourse, I haven't done space before, and I was surprised to see people doing all in the great plains, but the density of resources and gold/gems/silver is precious :)
I'm perfecting my techs, but am still having some problems with borders (domination).
I'll get over it.
The hardest record on all difficulties seem to be GreyCardinal on settler - 735AD, so when (hoping not if) I break it, I should be running over the rest quite easily.
I'm still not very close, but closing slowly.
I'm also still refusing to use the Russians as he did to make labs for +50% spaceship, and will decide later if this is a major problem.
Meanwhile, I'm trying to boost my tech and GP enough to catch him..

This may take some time, since I was playing a whole different game on 2050AD victories.
Now, it's Mining and Ethanol.
Now, it's a science race + build race.
Now, I'm tired.

Booga, out.

I have not been able to defeat GrayCardinal YET.
But, I have learnt one of the last things I had to learn to control this ame, which I've postponed for too long - Slavery.

All my previous games were done without slavery.
Now, I'm a bit smarter (having read the micromanagement article, also about slavery..)

I continue, but I'm still behind.
Booga out.

I was about to come and poke you for an update. Those Grey Cardinal dates are impressive.
I've finished all the difficulties except for monarch (which I'm saving as a treat for the end) and Deity.
I threw away the best shot at a winning Deity date because of a funamentaly stupid civics decision.

4 turns of revolution and then a 20% loss in beakers, followed by me being too scared to reverse the changes. Complete brain meltdown. I've kept the save to submit for the inferno challenge if I ever give up trying to get a first on Deity, but for now I'm still in the hunt so I'm not going to submit it yet.

I'm still kicking myself though, what an idiot.

At the moment I'm trying to find the right balance for AI power, I leave them too weak and they're no help in teching, I leave them too strong and they tech away. I might go up a mapsize to give myself more trading options.

It's not true AIs are no good at teching.. I play settler now on the smallest map, and I take 2 AIs.
Before I capture one of them, I get alphabet and trade them for all they got. Then I capture a city and wipe out a civ ;)
I also keep giving some techs for some time, in hope that they will research what I need them to.
Usually they want to research the first 3 religions, and mostly quite easily I make them get Iron working while I research something else. I stop after a few techs, becuse .. no - they can't keep up, and shouldn't ;)

One more thing I tested after reading the obvious is using 0% or 100% science, but never in between. Waste of commerce in roundings. They should have fixed something like that. Now I tech a bit faster.

Taking on some records are a . .. .. .. .. ., but it's a fun challenge!
Gray Cardinal had cereal mills, which I don't plan on, but he had it sooooo early that the catch is before that.

I have formally (my best game yet) reached space 53 turns later than him, but slavery and some early workers should boost things up, and the science thing is another 5-10 turns for sure, although my only game using that yet was aborted a bit after railroad... no engineer can be a crap in the butt.
Tired, but learning :)

Yeah that engineer can be a pain. Today I had my best deity resut to date, still not enough to beat Ironhead but it's getting close. I actually lost it by a diplomatic victory towards the end but it was getting the teching right that interested me more.

To guarantee my engineer on diety I chop a forge+pyramids+hanging gardens and wait some hundred turns or so. He arrives eventually, and in plenty of time for mining inc.

One of the major problems I'm facing on deity is global warming. It's tearing my land apart towards the end just when I need those precious beakers the most. The key is going to be maintaining +2000 beakers per turn at the end.

Something working exceptionally well for me on smaller maps is bureaucracy+oxford+wall street in the capital. Swapping out to another civic almost always results in a net beaker loss for me.
Obviously good cottage land is what I'm looking for on the start. Todays start just had 5 floodplains, a few grassland river squares and some grassland hills.

I guess I'm going to have to train myself to use the 100%-0% teching strategy. I've usually just been pretty lazy in regard but It's time to up my game. Thanks for the tip.

Actually, I never build wall st. in my cap...
The thing I need even more there is national epic, for all the wonders it will produce, and to double the effect of great library GPP.

the 0-100% thing can make wall st and oxf be more reasonable (each turn only 1 will be fully working), but still missing national epic in cap seems to me like a crime.

I usually do Wallstreet in another cottage city, where the religions were founded (so to get more money from their special buildings - Solomon's temple etc..).
Later, I found my cooperations there also for extra cash :)

About the 0-100%, just look at F1.
Say you have 13 commerce in your capital. On 0 or 100 % you get 13 as gold or beakers, but on any other percentage, you get 11 !! 2 are lost to roundings!! Sick!!
Now think of every city behaving like this .. while the human behid the computer still thinks he's gonna break a record. :mischief:

I chop national epic + GL into my best food rich city, often former enemy capital with lots of seafood, or my own starting location that I moved away from. If there is really a lot of food I will drop globe theatre there too for end game and run dozens of specialists there with Sushi.

Like you I will always found my corps in wall street city, regardless of where that is, too expensive otherwise.

Time for me to stop being lazy now though, and run a full game of 100-0% micro.

I'm a loooooooooooooser.
I'm still about 50 turns off course.
However, I've started to use specialist economy more, and to abandon all cottages except for the capital.
Excersice makes perfect, so they say. I hate them.

Do I want sailing before writing and alphabet?
Should I start right at the religions to make monasteries?
Should I need 2 settlers a worker and cash or 2 workers, a settler and cash?
Should I build National Epic where I'll do my wonders or in the Capital where the scientists work their asses off with GL?

I'm trying goddamn you, but GrayCarrdinal is divine. I'll beat him. One day. One of these days I'm gonna cut you into little pieces : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQvG2SMVl84

Game 16, #14473, score 48725 was submitted. [Deity game]

What a great day for Booga :)
A monuMENTAL game which will be a number 1 on deity when published.

I also submitted a 69,000 score Duel Diety Time game that update that went largely unnoticed. I saw you missed my high score by only a couple hundred points on the previous update, so I knew you'd try again.

On vanilla Civ, you could get multiple victory conditions on the final turn and still get time victory. On BTS they changed it, so my game ended in Domination. If I ever feel like playing again, expect a 70,000+ score. I learned a few things along the way.

You are currently a god to me. Seriously.
I don't care right now about broken records (I might in the future..).

I'm playing duel space settler.
I still try to understand where are all those turns could be taken from.
Do you go for alphabet for trade or mono at start? do u perfectly abuse slavery? Do u take the up side or right side of the map?
I didn't load 3.13 to see the replay, but I know u had 1 extra GA (Sports League).
Most importantly, infact the whole difference - u make cereal mills at about turn 300 and I reach railroad at 338 minimum. U do science better. Is it specialist economy (SE) u running? cottage (CE)? yellow superfood? my mom? don't get her involved.
I'm playing that setting for a month and a half, learning about slavery, city positioning, and still learning using SE effectively.

So, are you an ashkenazi jew like me? ;)
If not, let me be a slave to your mtDna group!
I'm a submissive zero who is soon about to die (Hizbullah opened fire to the north of Israel an hour ago, and I think the US and Iran will soon be busy fighting, which means I'll get some serious bombing here.. we do have a shelter..)

Dying to know the secret of trancendence,
Booga. Freak.

You are a freak, Booga. Didn't realize you'd be such an interesting character. I'm gonna have to go back and read this thread. Anyway, I love to answer your questions. I'm not quite sure which game of mine you are referring to. I do recall that Sports League GA tho.

On Deity, I almost always go for alphabet first.
I rarely use slavery. ceratinly don't abuse it.
I don't do SE well. Not much of a farmer.

Maybe you should look at Dynamic's 460 AD game (Tiny) instead of GC's 735 AD.
Settler difficulty is all about the free cities/settlers/workers. Specialist economy and lightbulbing techs blows away CE at this difficulty. There's just no time for cottages when you finish that fast. I have little experience at those games, so that's just theory to me.

I'm sorry. I was too stoned. I confused you with GrayCardinal...
Can't believe I did that. You are still a supreme player :goodjob: Here here..

So u say u broke my record? I learnt a lot since also ;)
But I'm obsessed with that space setting right now.. and in my spare time I should be programming my game, so I'll probably try to recapture it at about..... 2011. I heard the world should expire in 2012, so it will be pretty close ;)

I'll try all strategies for space. If I eventually fail, u can bury me instead of cremation (which I prefer), since no1 will ever need my dumass DNA. "Feed the worms" must be a good hobby for dead folks at a sunny cemetary afternoon. I'll b continuing with these thoughts after this post is complete, you will return to normal (the second I say "three" . 1. 2. Three.

Yes, where to start. Left side with lots of metals and floodplains or right side lots of grassland.
I haven't played any great plains maps to completion, I'm hoping you will do the play testing for me :p

Wastin makes a good point about cottages not having enough time to develop on fast finish dates.
For my Deity challenge I still cannot get AI to tech fast enough to trade with in end game, around the time of railroad they seem to get bored and start researching every dead end tech they can find, very frustrating. I want to shout at them. I do shout at them.

I took a break to unlearn any bad habits I might have picked up so I can come back with fresh ideas.

I have been using HC on Deity just for the early quecha rush to claim land but maybe I should swap to Ghandi or Mansa or Elizabeth (the three strongest teching leaders imo).
Spiritual is still a difficult trait for me. When I don't have it I NEED it, but when I do have it I don't use it properly.

I took a stab at the settler duel space colony, but can see immediately that it requires both an excellent capital location AND to get lucky with huts early.

One map I had 5 silver and some floodplains in BFC, but got no workers or settlers from huts, which effectively kills a shot at beating those dates (I think).

I think I might go and try to beat the tiny chieften date to get some practice in this difficulty range and on great plains map. I still don't understand how GC can build the components so fast while still teching.

I think I will leave the Ironhead dates until I understand SE better. Maybe Elizabeth time.

Well, I've been back playing/studying this game type {settler, space, duel} for MONTHS now, and finally reached some breakthroughs -

I've submitted a respectable game (18303) with victory at 825 AD - 18 turns from goal.

It could have been a better game - I missed a GA (yes I'm stupid), gave a city and still almost struck domination, had no costruction corperation...

On the bright side, Oracle was done for refregiration, liberalism for superconductors, and I did get to Cereal Mills and finished Apollo quite fast (turn 298, 370 respectively).

I think I may start taking my chances with the mining corporation, hoping for aluminium instead of risking cultural victory for less build-power..

That's my quick thoughts.

Another personal best - only 8 turns from GrayCardinal.
Submission number 18891, 775 AD, 80520 points.

Here are my immediate thoughts:
I will do better! I didn't get a GA quest and didn't even get the right specialist for my final GA. The start position was on the edge of acceptability (2 furs, no gems for capital) but I gave it a shot.

I've learned to sting education very early and much more small details on specialist economy management (mostly capital induced).

I tend to do computers instead of Lasers and some space parts before others,
but most importantly :
I have learned to master stinging superconductors for the Russian research institute and for Cereal Mills - at least 2 GS (great scientists, let's name them GS1 and GS2) should be ready when finishing scientific method (and AFTER printing press). Then,
GS1 + 2 research turns -> Phisics (which gives you GS3).
GS2 + 2 research turns -> Biology.
GS3 + (4-5) research turns -> Electricity.
Time it so that the Oracle is built the same turn as Electricity is discovered, and get
Refrigeration from the Oracle.
Now is the time to create Cereal Mills and research Liberalism (4-5 turns) to give us the science we so desire : Superconductors!!!! :goodjob:

So, only about 12-14 turns we are after sci method but before having research institute as a build option.
Ofcourse, we have much food now, which is converted to build power and scientists power instead of just size.

I will keep on trying and breaking this (great) record.

Hey.. sluggy.. you are alive :)
Which civ did I know you from? ;)
