beta 4 of Civ3Edit patch

I think I used the Beta 3 files for these. I'll whip up a new batch and post them later tonight if I have time.

Precision Bombing/Intercept Bug for Air Units

Just discovered something sufficiently "quirky" to be worth noting. Only if the Precision Bombing box is checked on can you turn on the Air Defense Strategy. If Precision Bombing is not checked then the Air Defense Strategy box is greyed out and not available.

Preliminary guess is that indeed the Precision Bombing and Interception checkboxes have been "reversed" so that these checkboxes are in actuality pointing at the other's property.

So until Brad can find the spare time to build a Beta 6 version, simply swap these two properties (in your own mind) to get the proper Rule Structure in play.

Yes, this error was caught a few posts back.

Vector, is it creating a file called "attachment.php" on your desktop? if it is you just need to rename it c3editrules.nib.zip
from there you should be good. Try using Chimera Navigator also - its a pretty good mozilla browser.

Heck, you don't even need to rename it that. Just change the extension to .zip, and it'll unzip with the proper name.

I reinstalled Civ3, updated, and now the Editor opens and re-opens saved files just fine. I figured with Brad's lack of comment on this post that I should try it -- all better now!

I wonder if some graphic mods or multi-unit mods may have been the culprit.

Saved files:confused: Do you mean saved .bic files? afik, there wasn't an official saved game editor on our side (unless someone has gone and ported that over to the mac side as well)

That's because I removed it. ;)

In its place, I've posted the "final" editor patch, which is currently slated to be the one found on the GOTY CD. You can grab it here:

http://www.brad-oliver.com:8080/~boliver/Civ3Edit_1321.sit

I'd like to point out that this build hasn't gotten the official "thumbs up" from the powers-that-be yet, but I expect that it will.

It fixes the flipped checkboxes in the "Air Missions" rule set, adds some more great replacement artwork from you guys, and fixes the issue where editing city names and other similar text fields would sometimes result in extra garbage characters at the end.

Brad does this patch address the disappearing fields? Did you ever get that to appear (or not appear, rather) on your computer?

I think it's fixed. Try it out and let me know.

Is there a way to set starting locations for individual civs? There's an overlay for "player location"; if I set one and open the terrain properties, there's a dropdown for the civ, but it's always greyed out. Is this a bug, or is there another way to enable the dropdown?

@ zompist- Nope, AFAIK, you can't set locations for individual civs in this version of the game/editor.

Ok, now, in case anyone starts complaining that the old modded .nib files don't work with the new release of the editor, here ya go. :p

Brad, There are still some problems with the disappearing fields. After making a change to one of the units i then went to worker jobs and observed that the encyclopedia field was blank. When i closed the program and reopened the file, i found that the field was no longer blank.

I seem to have that problem too. After I tinker around with a couple things in the rules, the first thing on certain rules pages loses info for all the fields.

Civilization Advances, Difficulty Levels, Diplomats and Spies, Eras, Governments, Improvements and Wonders, Natural Resources, Terrain, Units, Worker Jobs, and World Sizes all seem to be affected.
