I would like to start a thread where people regularly post their Dune Wars screenshots for a couple of reasons.

1. For fun. It's a good way for newcomers to get a feel for the mod, and for current players to share their experiences.

2. For promotion. It would be really handy to have some good screenshots to upload to other sites and elsewhere on Civfanatics in order to promote the mod more.

Screenshots of any part of the mod are welcome, with or without explanations. You can show off how much you are winning or losing, or just highlight something you think is particularly cool.

Screenshot Tips

+ When you press Print Screen to take a screenshot it will automatically be saved to your My Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword/Screenshots as a JPG file.

+ Keyboard shortcuts to help you take nice screenshots:

ALT-I : Hide Interface
CTRL-I : Minimize Interface
CTRL-Left Arrow/Right Arrow : Rotate camera in 45 degree increments
SHIFT-Left Arrow/Right Arrow : Rotate camera in 15 degree increments
CTRL-Up Arrow/Down Arrow or SHIFT-Up Arrow/Down Arrow: Tilt the camera up or down
CTRL-Home : Return to Default Rotation & Tilt

+ To attached a screenshot to a post you can just use the Manage Attachments link or the paperclip icon.

Who will be first?

Bump. Come on, they don't have to be a work of art or anything. Just having a handful of screenshots to showcase the new version 1.6 would be nice...

Ok here is my screenshots from 1st 1.6 game - Atriedes, Arrakis, Leto II, Beeline to Quizerate, blooming economy and Tleilaxu which come and crush me with huge superior military.
Lesson - don't neglect army even if you are superior in technology, and scout alot.

Spoiler :

Here is My disntant Quizerate Holy city with Temple of Alia Built, you see there is also Harkonnen scout thopter scouting my land.

Tleilaxu attacked, and i lost very serious city in 2 turns. Huge land and aerial army is there, and i think i am done. My small army together with Family Heir prepearing to meet overwhelming hordes of Tleilaxu.

My army mobilised from capital. Terrain is not freindly, and our nation have not transports :( So it will take time to deliver reinforcements. Probably many of them going to their last battle.

Well , another immortal game, that went veeery smoothly at start, but then Feyd came and .....
What i like in DW that if you want big empire you should care about all its parts defence, because if you leave some weak defence in middle , that the thing which may happen *looks at screenshot*

I think I need to remove the Great Wall of China from Arrakis...

Yep it looks odd, indeed.

I don't think we should even have a big wall like this at all. There is nothing like it in the books. The Shield Wall is just a mountain range really. If we want an equivalent wonder to the Great Wall we can use a place of refuge like the Cave of Birds, or perhaps some advanced missile/lasgun system.

I think I need to remove the Great Wall of China from Arrakis...

I agree, as mentioned in the Wonder thread, it doesn't make much sense. It prohibits worms and smugglers from entering your terrain, which is kinda illogical.
Its a gameplay issue, the effect doesnt' make much sense.

Well, that's what our Force Shield using the Arcology graphic is meant to represent.

In the film, the headquarter has a energy shield. Okay, the great wall does not really look like it, but the effect fits.

That wall as i understand used for Town shield, which was brown once and now it's blue

Right. The force shield protects an individual city; it can't stop anyone from entering your entire cultural borders.

This is what wll happen if someone will talk too much (Roma Attani status - DEAD)

Those rushes are very nasty, and i am kicking immortal small map game.

Btw such rushes are hard to counter for non-(aggressive or protective) ai.
Her soldies were wondering and she had just 2 soldiers in her own land. But thats not matter. Even if she had 3 soldiers in each:
Improved shields promotion can be very nasty in hands of rushing human player. (total +30 % str with barracks and Agg trait, against only existing military type units at start of the game - guardsman) (so call it - game breaker)
May be - to deny such incredible rushes, improved shields promotion should be aviable bil later in game.
May be all specialisation promotions (vs UnitClass) should come after certain tech being researched. (or just add special tier 3-4 tech?)
Agg leader with improved shields and cheap baracks = no chance of survival for not -agg.
Only existing units at start of game are guardsmans, so by using pretty obvious and stupid move Agg leader who promotes with Improved shields - early civ killer. One game i killed 3 ais with this.

.... stop playing highly stocked small maps. That way, it takes longer to walk to your enemy.

But anyway,
Soldier with combat 1 and improved shields = strength 2.6 vs guardsmen
Soldier fortified in city with 20% cultural defense and no promotions = 3.9
(I forget what the soldier bonus for city defense is - 50%?)
Win probability of 3.9 vs 2.6 = HUGE.

So you will need at least 2:1 odds, maybe more.
And if they have an Infantry unit.... strength 5.7 or so?

And if your rush fails, then you have wasted a ton of time in the early game building barracks and units instead of expanding.

Besides, how is this different from vanilla? Does shock have a tech requirement? I forget, haven't played it in forever.

Also; at high difficulty levels, shouldn't the AI be getting free promotions? Or is that only in FFH?

No, 1st you making wrong maths.

Soldiers have +25 % defence in city, and cultural defence possible is 20%, so its 2.9 vs 2.6, but in city. Ai wonders, and on land its just free promotion for you.

2nd i never wasted a rush. It woking always.

3rd its small map, and its not quite hightly stocked. Distance was 8 tiles from my culture to her closest city culture. Also standard maps causing CTDs, so perhaps i need to put back 1.6.1 version.

4th i think AI gets promotions for free in FFH

5th
dont compare to vanilla, because its very wrong thing to do - there are 3 types of units that aviable early at game, and they different progression of defence capabilities , strengt and time.
In DW some early part of game is just guardsmen.

6th
i think that fixing production costs of ALL units will lighten this .

Soldiers have +25 % defence in city

Ok, like I said, I wasn't sure if soldiers were 25% city defense or 50% city defense.
Maybe we should increase the soldier city defense bonus to 50%?

Your math is also wrong though; you're forgetting thr 25% defensive bonus from fortification.

Distance was 8 tiles from my culture to her closest city culture
this is a *very* small distance. On a standard map, in the early game you are normally looknig at 15+ tiles.

dont compare to vanilla, because its very wrong thing to do
Why not?
We don't need to make early rushes any harder than they are in vanilla.

there are 3 types of units that aviable early at game, and they different progression of defence capabilities , strengt and time.

Soldiers are warriors, infantry are archers, quads and thopters are basically chariot/horsearchers, bladesmen are basically swordsmen/axemen.
