Version 2.8 discussion

Well if anything was made it would probably be mounted on something big like a vehicle.

Note there are many energy weapons not just lasers, you can have microwave, sound waves, electricity, radio, electromagnetic, plasma, etc. Its much more exotic than any sci-fi fantasy show. That's one reason I love real science sicne it is much cooler than anything seen in Hollywood movies.

I would really like to see some kind of sonic tank or mech that could blast their enemy with sound blasts be it pushing the air or just making them go deaf. Not to mention using it for seismic usages.

Just FYI there are earthquake effects premade that are never used that are in BTS's effects folder. Perhaps you can ask Afforess to take a look into this since he's currently looking for mods to make.

Not since page 35:
I completed the merge process last night and left the game to run on AI autoplay over night. The game was around 1900AD at the morning and there wasn't any problems. Today after work I'll take a closer look at the logs and if there isn't any new issues I'll get to zip the mod tonight (sorry, no installer version this week, I don't have time to learn/try that stuff now). So tomorrow or on Friday I'll hopefully get it uploaded. Lite version I'll try to get released next week.

Yes, any energy weapon will do, wat ever you wanna call it, lasers, microwaves, what ever, same result in what im talkin about. I just say laser or plasma so the majority of people can understand the idea i am putting out there.

And yes, to start with it would be large and be mounted on a vehicle or mounted to the ground or wat ever other way you can think of, but large vehicles and mechs would be easy targets for air strikes, sat recon, rocket attacks, rpg and would be time consuming to set up, transport and the logistical cost would be high aswell. Production would be long and costly aswell plus it would take multiple people to operate it. The Military would try there hardest to miniaturise the weapon, just like they did for guns, so that infantry can use them.

the vehicle mounted weapon would work much like the first chariot unit does, bonus when attacking axe man. So the new weapon would have attack bonus on the future melee units, but be rather susceptible to the other attacks i described above. Then, once the weapon is miniaturised and infantry can carry the weapons, you have now progressed one more step in the evolution of weapons.

So, just forget the details of what to call the weapons or what type of energy, and just see the over all idea:

-stronger armor invented
-projectile wpns now obsolete
-strong close melee wpns invented to match strength of new armor
-first large scale longe range energy wpn capable of breaching armor from afar invented
-new armor is weak to this new weapon, but large scale wpn is weak to other conventional wpnry(rpg, missile, air strike etc.)
-large scale energy wpn is miniaturised for infantry
-new armor is now obsolete.

This happens over a period of perhaps 150 to 200 years and just a small part of the post modern era tech tree.

The main reason i thought of this was because alot of my friends that play RoM love it but usually stop playing after rifles become the main stream weapon. And from then on its guns and missiles, all the units look the same no matter what civ u are and they get bored cos they miss the variety of units and tactics they used. I personally dont mind, but i thought that if we could periodically along the future tech tree, reintroduce a reason for bringing back that melee style combat for a little bit, it would keep them playing knowing that combat will change again at later stages of the game and not just switch to guns and stay like that right into the future.

Hmm, as usual thinking in terms of things that are 'missing' from ROM (the mod that has everything), here's a couple more ideas (if anyone every reads them )

- Botanical Gardens - National Wonder, small health, small happiness, and moderate science bonus
- Post Office - small happiness, small culture, extra trade route or small percentage increase

Check out Afforess' modmodpack for Beautification modmod. It may be similar to your first idea.

Then go here and give out your modmod ideas.

In here, it is better to just concentrate on Modern and later ideas as Zappara requests.

Very quick question. Not worthy of its own thread. How do I get the unhappy face to show above my city name when I'm above the hapiness threshold (Im probably using all the terminology because I haven't played Civ in a while).

I'd just like to let you guys know I haven't been posting much because I completed an eternal game in four days, taking breaks only to go to the restroom, eat and go to school also I feel very sleepy
(and check CFC occasionally)

Just a thought.

Everytime I promote units I almost always give them the star. Reason : at 17 xp most ships goes from being able to sink 1 ship to being able to sink 10+ ships with the Blitz. Same goes for choppers.
IMO it doesnt make any sense that one promotion gives sooo much. Maybe remove blitz from ships and choppers???

I second you, it's too much right now
but what if not removing blitz from choppers and ships rather than just limit blitz to 3 attacks max/turn - would that be possible?

Do boats get drill? First strikes can handle Blitz pretty well, unless the killer blitz boat has Drill also.

I don't find it quite that powerful. If the ships are close in strength, the blitz-capable ship usually becomes too damaged to survive more attacks so I avoid them unless it's a truly desperate situation. If the targets are woefully understrength then it is possible to get at least four attacks unless some bad luck with the RNG comes along.

well, maybe my problem is I'm too ahead of the AI.

I just finished off 10 wooden/steam ships with a single destroyer. If it had 16xp instead of 17, then I would only be able to kill 1.....

Alternatively ships could be given the blitz the same way as tanks. The biggest problem is the amount of moves/turn and therefore the amount of attacs. Plus the AI doesnt seem to have a clue about giving blitz to ships....

A single destroyer should be able to kill wooden/steam ships all day long. Long range guns alone would make the destroyer very lethal, let alone radar targeting.

That's the thing about military tech. This decades top killer is next decades sitting duck in many cases.

You could eventually can have things come full circle of course, once you start proofing against lasers or beams, or corrosive gas or microparticles or tiny robots you might stop proofing against a solid hit via canonball
