Dominion NES

I have ideas, but college and a general apathy are keeping me from using them. Also, I already have the moe things written, even if short.

kathnesjac woke, a cold sweat coating him. The dreams were back, prophetic dreams... When he looked up he saw cryptic writings all over his room, coating the floor, ceiling, walls, even the bedposts. Sketches of turtles, descriptions of rituals, blueprints for some kind of ship. He slowly stood and a piece of worn charcoal fell from his hands

Hurray for Korean warships!!!!

mreh, thanks but I was just shamelessly stealing thomas.berubeg's style.

Immac, I'm disappointed: you had free time and didn't start a NES with it? Think of the awesomeness you could have done with a 1-update-per-day rush NES... I'm all shivery inside... ;)

There are SO many NESes going now... i don't need to crowd those out...

work is killing meh, it sucks all the creative imagination in your head! :(

I'm thinking of making a background story of Abysia's three ministers/ de facto prophets namely, Selena (Garnet Priestess, Prophet of Foreign Affairs), Fiera (Garnet Sorceress, Prophet of War) and Yllie (Garnet Sorceress, Prophet of Magic Research) but like I said, no time to make it.... T_T

Hey Raven, if you find yourself out of cute Amazonian Sorceress intent on summoning demons and sacrifice your father... You know who to call ;)

Yo LD, I have a question...

You said 1 mana worth, so 20 dominions gems right? (This is from one of your emails)

If so then why does it cost as you said in your post about empowering mages:

Cost in gems to increase one mage's level in one path (empowerment) is:
From level 0 to 1: Costs 25 mana. 1 to 2: 20 mana. 2 to 3: 30 mana. 3 to 4: 40 mana. 4 to 5: 50 mana.

In the dominions game, for a mage to learn a new path, he has to empower 50 gems of that element then 30 gems for the second and 45 gems for the third empowerment and etc. If we are to follow the game then the conversion rate should be...

1 mana = 20 gems

Dominion Gems NES Mana
level 0 - 2 50 + 30 = 80 80/20 = 4
level 3 - 4 45 + 60 = 105 105/20 = 5.25
level 5 - 6 75 + 90 = 165 165/20 = 8.25
level 7 - 8 105 + 120 = 225 225/20 = 11.25
level 9 150 150 = 7.25

Just clarifying though...

I'll take a crack at that one:

The 20:1 ratio is meant to accelerate summoning and item creation so that this NES doesn't take as long to play as a Dominions game (in turns, not in RL time). its not meant to make new paths available to you and suddenly change the basic structure of what you are playing. (Same goes for unit sizes.)

The answer is because it's that way.
I'm not playing a dominions game. It's a NES based on the world of Dominions, not on its exact ruleset.
First, you'd have to multiply empowerment costs by 2 or 3 since mage units are usually made of 2 or 3 mages (most often 3) when in combat. Second, wizards which have access to several paths in Dominion, like Earth 2 + 3 randoms among Earth, Water, Fire, Nature, Astral, will be considered as having all of these in the NES, namely Earth 2 Water1 Fire 1 Nature 1 Astral 1, which is twice as strong as what he'd be in Dominions.
Also consider that there's a single type of 'mana'.
Here's an example of empowerment in Dominions:
Suppose you have 3 Ulm wizard smiths with 0 death level and want to empower them all to Death 2. You'd need 240 death gems = 12 mana. Except you don't have death gems, so you use astral pearls and alchemise them. Cost 24 mana. Probably, you don't have any astral pearls, so you're going to alchemise earth gems into astral pearls, for a total cost of 48 mana.
Suddenly, it looks more expensive, doesn't it?
Anyway, the cost is what I said it is, period. It's expensive, and it is thus on purpose.

Got it LD.

Yeah I did thought of empowering all of my mages for more power thinking the empowerment scheme was too cheap basing on my assumptions.

Guess that would be a bummer after all...

Well thanks for clarifying that up LD!

Story time! Once upon a time...

Spoiler :
Mardröm

I shove through the frozen branches of the pines, their needles hard and sharp as steel tear at my skin, my feet shredded on ice and bladed grass. My ears are beset with the screams of the damned, the howl of the Wolves.
I burst from the forest into a clearing, the frozen wind lashing shards of ice against my wounds. The black sky, pierced with the Great Roots hangs overhead. I turn as a group of Damned burst from the woods, chased by a form, long and serpentine, appearing as scarlet mist clung to loose-weave wool, red as fresh blood. The form grabs the Damned, carry them away, back to Dauður Borða.
With a sudden lurch I am following it, flying across the forest, towards the centre of this place, towards Niðafjöllum. And there, at the centre of the roots, tangled win a prison, Niðhöggr thrashes. Black as death, glistening with rot and decay, as long as a mountain chain, with teeth lick swords, and antlers like longdead branches. I soar towards it’s prison, grab at the roots to try to tear them, knowing it to be the only way to stop Him. I break one root, then another, then it turns, looks at me, and the last thing a see are the wretched dead, still moving as in life, caught between its teeth, screaming in utmost pain and suffering, as I join them, and feel the pain, pain of venom, and of shame of failure...

With a scream, Gwen found herself falling to the floor, sheets tangled around her legs. She took a minute to sort out where she was, and that she was safe before trying to untangle the sheets. After she had, she threw them on the bed and moved to the door of her room, grabbing her robe on the way. There was no point in trying to sleep tonight again...

(From the desk of the Vanheim Minister of Press and Public Relations, Gunner Olkston)
Some people might be wondering why His Divine Mightiness Herra Þorndá Hið Móðr* appears mostly in supporting roles while Erik and Greifynja Gwen Hið Iðunn are almost main characters. This is simple. Here is Herra Þorndá’s daily schedule:
8:00-Awaken from Meditation

8:15-Stand nøkkviðr on the Highest, coldest peak for Midgard for 14 minutes
8:30-Swim laps (while avoiding the dripping venom of Níðhöggr) in Hvergelmir for 25 minutes, then get ready for breakfast.
9:00-Have a large breakfast with the valkyrja and einherjar.
9:30-11:45-[CLASSIFIED]
11:45-12:30-Eat a Large Lunch with valkyrja and einherjar.
12:30-3:15- [DATA EXPUNGED]
3:15-3:30- Light tea and snack
3:30-7:00- [DATA REDACTED]
7:00-9:30-Massive feast with the valkyrja and einherjar
9:30-10:10-[YOU KNOW THE DRILL]
10:10-1045-Eavining stroll around the world
