AAranda's mods for 2.8 (some of them)

For RoM 2.92 I have merged in Walter Hawkwood's Venetian Arsenal and some of Orion veteran's wonders. The included readme file says I have added in some of Tsentom1's python wonders but it is not so, partly because some of them already exist in another form in AAranda's religions and partly because they need a bit of tweeking to fit in RoM.

For RoM 2.9 I have only included the wonders dropping the World Trade Centre since that is in AND. I still have the Terracotta Army because I prefer this one to the one in AND. You can play with both versions as they merge OK.

I have not done the language support stuff, ie GameText.xml files.

TO INSTALL:

It is MOSTLY modular , all you have to do is place the "AAranda" folder inside your RoM modules folder ( if it is not the
first module you install from me , just open AAranda folder and copy everything inside to your existng AAranda folder in RoM)

There is also a conflict with the World Trade Center with A New Dawn wonders. Also, The East India Company might conflict with vincentz corporations in flavor.

How did I miss the World Trade Center:confused:. I don't have Vincentz stuff yet, except the new Warlords.

Anyway, while it worries me, both AAranda an Afforess have both said on occasion that a conflict in their work is not a conflict really ;) It certianly does not cause XML problems - it probably just merges the differences. people will just have to change the MLF files to choose between them.

They only overwrite one another if the names are EXACTLY the same in the XML. I would double check that.

:mischief:I don't care.:mischief: At least that was both your and AAranda's response when I pointed out the same problem with both your castle improvements.;)

There are no XML problems when loading this with RoM 2.81 with and without AND 1.53. Also only one WTC appears in game.

Edit: just checked the XML - names are identical effects and costs are different. I will write some doco on how to choose between the two.
 
I have decided to change the way I am releasing AAranda's religions. There will now be classic and improved versions. Also until we get the "forced" replacement option I will only be releasing the new buildings for the standard religions.

The Classic religion mod will contain all the religions that AAranda defined with the minor improvements, mostly text, that I have added.

The Improved religion mod will include my versions of Animism, Druid, Shinto and Yorba.

Since all will be available you will be able to edit the MLF file to switch between the versions of each religion if you want.
 
Two new updates uploaded (see first post also)
  1. A new version of AAranda's Religions mod is now available in the first post. All the religions are now in there including the changes to the standard RoM religions. I have added sounds from the Rapture mod to some of the religions.
    Note that the bits that modify existing religion buildings are not in this pack.
  2. A new version of Units has been posted. The building mod included a couple of defensive units I have included them.
  3. I have updated the first post in this thread to include links to documentary posts in this thread. I am still writing them at the moment.
 
The units are separately selectable. Just remove the directory of units you do not want. They can be found in Modules/AAranda/Custom_Units

Ram now comes with RoM 2.9. Defensive catapluts and trabs have been removed due to some conflict with AND. They may return in an AND mod.

I removed the sea creatures because they are included in Afforess' Sea Monster mod included in the "A New Dawn" project.

I moved the defensive siege units from AAranda's Building pack to here.

This mod adds a few units to the RoM world, but i thougth them will be quite interesting to be included as them provide the possibility to bombard city defenses earlier, build hammers using food, make enterteineer unit able to use at all eras and gives you the chance to kill those annoying medic units healing enemies troops just at you city's door.

strenght , can perform range atacks to an adjacent tile and it AIMS FIRST TO RECON UNITS , so you can
now try to kill medics units inside a stack of enemies's troops. Upgrades to modern sniper

- MODERN SNIPER Available laser , you can build no more than 5 of those units . It has 45 strenght , can perform
range atacks to an adjacent 2 tiles distance and it AIMS FIRST TO RECON UNITS , so you can now try
to kill medics units inside a stack of enemies's troops. Upgrades to high tech sniper

- HIGH TECH SNIPER Available Superstrong alloys , you can build no more than 5 of those units . It has 65 strenght , can
perform range atacks to an adjacent 3 tiles distance and it AIMS FIRST TO RECON UNITS , so you can now
try to kill medics units inside a stack of enemies's troops.

AAranda's religion mod adds 11 new religions and modifies every standard religion. I have made them fully modular, added sounds and effects to some. I have also changed thee Druidic, Animism and Shinto.

How to get and install extra movies.

I did not include some of the movies in the pack due to space limitations. Some of these are available in Wonder Movies by Arian see post #3 for an alphabetical list.
  • Blue Mosque goes in the Islam/cutscene folder
  • Solomon's Temple goes in the Judaism/cutscene folder
  • Toltec Pyramid goes in the Nagualismo/cutscene folder
  • Ishtar's Gate goes in the Zoroasterism/cutscene folder
They need to replace a static movie already in the folder so make sure they end up with the same name.

I am not sure yet where AAranda got the movies for Qaboos and Templo Mayor.


How to choose which religions will be in the game.


Removing religions from the game is now done by deleting their folders.

FIXED FROM PREVIOUS VERSIONS:

Version 2.8 and 2.81 of RoM (Dancing Hoskuld)

Made each religion modular so that you can choose which religions you want in the current game. This only applies to new religions not the RoM religions.

Moved the help, strategy and pedia text out of the various XML files into a GameText file to allow for language support.

Changed the AI options in the XML for the Druidic and Animistic religions so that they work better. basically I added the MISSIONARY option to each religions missionary unit so that they would spread their religion.

Found and added some graphics. Added sounds for Andean, Asartu, Mesopotamian, Shinto and Tengei.

Problem: Not all of AAranda's changes were modular some of them required replacing the code in the base files. While this is still possible for straight RoM installations it is not for the "A New Dawn" project extensions to RoM since they also change the base RoM files and coordination is a problem. There is a feature "coming soon" which should allow the replacement to be done in a modular fashon. In the mean time I will provide the new buildings for the standard RoM religions but leave the other adjustments out.

You should correct Ram's documentation to saying it require Masonry and Wheel. And its strength is 2.
 
The download for Part 1 of the Religions pack wound up being aarandabuildings_1

Was this a mistake? Just wanted to be sure.
 
It happens, no sweat. Kudos for working on all of this, considering my original intent was just to have Shinto. Also, we could start a separate discussion on something more appropriate for Geomancy.

On Geomancy - I have changed it in the current release.

It now still gives happiness for Afforess's beautification buildings and a +5% boost to science from the Shinto monastry. It also now allows two new buildings Palace Gardens and Forbidden Palace Gardens. I just needed something quick and thought the whole landscape thing would fit here for now.

I am about to disappear for two weeks or so for Christmas - have to go visit the family (14 hours drive west of here), so I am trying to get some of the stuff I have got working up here.

I almost have FreeMasonry worked out - not a religion but almost like a religion :)

It should be in part 1. Was the part 1 you downloaded called ArrandaBuildings_1.7z if so that was my mistake and I re uploaded the file "AAranda_Religions_P1.7z". It contains Asatu, Buddhism, Confucian, Taoism and Voodoo. Did you get all those? If not then something went wrong with the up load or the link.
