Dune Wars

The Fremen AI is really bad at adopting religions, mostly because it is so limited in which ones it can adopt (shai-hulad, mahdi or Quizarate only IIRC).

We discussed vaguely a long time ago creating a Fremen event that will give them a free Shai-Hulad missionary when they research some tech. Maybe, when they research Divine Mandate. Or when they research Jihad if mahdi has already been founded.

Another possibility would be to have them start with mysticism, so that they could actually compete with the BGs for Shai-Hulad, so that shai-hulad wasn't a total freebie for BG.

We could consider something similar for BGs; that they get a free missionary for each religion when they discover its foundnig tech (except for Technocracy).
I like the idea of making BG more religiously flexible somehow - maybe a UB that gives +1 happy for each non-state religion in the city (to cancel out the non-state religion penalty).

I like the idea of the BG sitting there using and meddling with all the religions/political philosophies.

And this could be potentially very powerful and flavorful: Moiham with Political/Spritual getting half-price Shai-Hulad, Imperial and Landsraad temples in every city.

I think we should add flanking damage vs siege units for roller/scorpion vehicle units. That would help increase the value of these a little; they're currently a little underpowered.

I think that figuring out how to get the AI to unload its troops when they're immediately adjacent to their target city needs to be a high priority enterprise.
So many times, an enemy sends in an invasion force of a few suspensors and ~5 suspensor transports, with 15 combat units, and I don't have to fight *any* of the combat units because I can kill them all before they unload.

Version 1.7 is released! See the first post in the thread for download details and the release note. Most of the discussion is taking place in the sub-forum.

I'm having problem trying to load this game. I play my Civ via Steam and it is patched but your installer gives me an error saying it doesn't detect the 3.19 patch (which it does) and then aborts.

Any way around this?

You are the second person to complain about this. Sadly, I did not write the installer and the author has recommended me to fix this bug on my own. I guess I will put up a zipfile as well. I will send you and the other person having this problem a PM with the zipfile location, so that I can still track download counts.

Please visit the download page again. I have added instructions for any player who is having trouble with the installer failing to detect your BTS 3.19. Hopefully we will be able to fix the installer at some point.

@arkham4269

I'd really like to know if the new logic in the install script I have for LoR fixes your issue. Could you try downloading and installing Legends of Revolution. This will let davidlallen and I know if the new install script fixes the problem you had. If the 116MB download is too much I can package you up a small like 100KB installer to try to test the updated logic on. You're only one of two users that has confirmed an installation issue, and I'd really like to know if this is fixed or not.

Okay, even though I downloaded LoR recently, I haven't loaded it yet. So I'll do that and then reinstall Dune Wars via that installer and let you know if it worked.

No, I must clarify I mean the new 0.9.8 version of LoR, specifically it's installer (I just released it yesterday). It has the updated installer logic in it. And thanks for responding.

If you could give a direct link to the download page, that would save a little bit of hunting and make it more likely for arkham and deliverator to respond.

Well it's pretty easy to find, the last project in the projects forum. Here is a list of all the available download mirrors, what needs checking is the installer for the 0.9.8 version (light or full, doesn't matter):

Yes, that's the one I meant. I downloaded it but hadn't actually unzip/installed it yet.

So does it work, or does it give you the same abort message as DW's installer?

Thanks, now I wonder how I am supposed to solve this. Basically that means that Steam didn't add a version key to their BtS registry, as LoR's installer only fires the "not updated" abort message if it detects a valid BtS registry (and not a complete or gold registry, it does a separate check here, it must be a BtS registry), and then checks that registry's version key.

Do you know how to check your registry?

Imperial Palace does not appear to actually be giving culture.
(It shouldn't matter that it is captured from another faction, right?)
Spoiler :

The 44 culture are coming from the other buildings and the specialists.

Sayyadinas need some kind of cap on the number of promotions they can give. By the late-game I can have large numbers of level 2 units with 8+ promotions.

One way to do this would be to have three "Weirding" promotions; weirding 1, 2, 3, and have these be the only promotions taught by the Sayyadina.

These could be some mix of strength and first strikes.

Also, it should be limited to melee and guardsmen; I observed thopters getting large numbers of free promotions from the Sayyadinas.

I'm downloading the new LoR installer for us Steam users. Will there be a similar fix coming for Dune Wars? (If not, I can be patient as I noticed I didn't delete my previous Dune Wars folder after all)
