Dr kossin #13

Why did you build the Moai one turn from completion? With them being a national wonder, how would failure gold help you there? I am confused. :p Also why did you trade with Toku upon meeting him? Was it not wise to wait in case he was somebodies worst enemy?

Let's hope the generals popping overseas does not mean that you get Shaka with 3 vassals who will have you for dinner, Better get a strong navy up next.

He came begging CoL on the turn I met him. I agreed to it so I already had the trade penalty if there's one to be had. I also though he was isolated at first since he looked like he had no religion but he was in FR thanks to SPaya.

Re Shaka: If he's in the game, odds are he's very far from Astronomy and backwards as hell, unable to even trade with his vassals :lol:

It says you took Moai Statues off queue turn 103 and didn't cash in until turn 179. :nono:

Wonders start decaying after 50 turns as well!

Nicely played though.

I downloaded the map: it shows deity... and plays the same. Found out when I saw the endless hoards of the barbarian archers.

Probably BULL screws the game:
Spoiler :

Mine showed deity like that too (no mods at all). The AI didn't get a 2nd city but AFAIK had the bonuses. I was rather shocked I could pull a win on deity- with boudica in iso...kind of close though.

Round 2a

It wasn't pretty. I played to the end... I kinda dislike isolation so hopefully next game won't be isolated as well.

I started meeting nice neighbor after nice neighbor...

Meanwhile, I managed to generate a Great Prophet for a shrine.

To avoid religious strife, I went into Free Religion.

After opening borders... my gpt jumped to over 100 from 20ish!

More fantastic neighbors!

I could get a few trades at least...

Thankfully, I was first to Economics and grabbed the free GM. I sent him overseas to keep research flowing.

And the last neighbor... too bad Monty, Alex and Nappy missed the show I guess.

GK was actually willing to trade a few things!

1900 gold for being first at Economics... not a bad haul.

Trades...

I kept Shaka and GK busy at war while I built up infrastructure and teched deeper...

Darius was of course always willing to trade something...

Further GPs were settled in Bibracte...

Except this one who made my only Golden Age...

...for State Property!

Another few trades...

Settle...

I got my hands on a little island way up south. It didn't contribute that much to my starting island, but it did help a bit with resources.

Stay at war, will ya?

Kremlin... didn't get to use it that much as Emancipation unhappiness was around 10 really quickly.

And another settled scientist... Bibracte was really pulling me through here.

Continued in the next segment...

Round 2b

This one kept them both busy for a while...

Now, this Wonder I did good use of...

Time to go Emancipation...

Settled.

Much needed resources.

Think you can sneak on me Mehmed? I killed that with Destroyers.

Went into heavy war mode... I'd go back to Emancipation soon after.

Started killing Mehmed...

Spawned off a colony to get extra garrison...

And Mehmed is toast.

Next, I go after the big guy of the game... GK! It took about 30 turns to kill enough units to get him to Capitulate :S

The rest was easy... you can't see Toku as I killed him to Capitulate Shaka.

Game over...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~Post game...
What a slug-fest!
Definitely poorly played round 2a and 2b. Very very sloppy but the W was more or less guaranteed a while ago. Just a question of time.
So how did we fare...
Euckkk! Bad score but this wasn't an easy map, and not an easy start.
Dr kossin #14 will start tomorrow. It will be played over more time and it shorter rounds as I will *try* to give some more details.
Good job!
Almost looks like a parallel world of the game I'm playing now. Except for starting isolated, Tokugawa is the nearest AI to home.
I don't see any reason to move:
Strange, as I see plenty reasons for it. I would burn off 2 turns here to move to a better spot. You got jipped on the minimum (3-hills), and that calendar resource in your BFC c an never be good. Some other problems with your start too but whatever floats your boat.
I may try this one later tonight on the same settings.
Kossin I have a few quick Q's if you have time.
I noticed you hardly have a cottage if not one at all. Did you solely use specialists to tech until you met everyone? Also, while capitulating everyone....did you simply sail around the cont. and invade the costal cities and have everyone capitulate with that, or did you have to take some interior cities as well? Also, could you explain the benefit of spawning the colony, what do you mean by extra garrison?
I actually built 0 cottages all game long. All research was through tile commerce (coast, riverside, silver and such), specialists, settled specialists, bulbs, science builds. Granted having early Representation helped quite a bit. I didn't REX this game. I started with 3 cities for a while and then when the economy was stable, I started expanding. There was no hurry without GLH and with the land I had, although I did go for the silver earlier than the other sites.
For Capitulation, I simply took coastal cities except for GK who didn't have enough cities on the coast... so I built a few tanks and took cities 1 or 2 tiles away from the coast with the help of fighters to damage city defenders.
Spawning the colony: It has some benefits but also some negatives.
Pros:
-the Colony gets 2 free infantry per liberated city. Since GK was so huge, he had a lot of spare troops and killed re-took several cities so they were quite helpful.
-less maintenance although in SP you don't see much difference
-less micro
-it also helps with land targets mechanics but in this case I already had vassaled Mehmed
-you can trade for resources easily
Cons:
-you can't use the extra production
-it might trade away some of your techs
-lowers the average power of nations (Capitulation is based on average power of existing nations so in this case it made it harder)
-diplo hate (hardly matters when going for Dom/Conq)
Does that answer everything or would you like further precisions?
Mmmm... I started playing and noticed some counter-inflicting issues with the settings. I then did some world-builder investigation to see what the hell was going on. I don't know... maybe it just says it's deity and it really isn't. AI's only start with 4 techs instead of 6, etc. so I am including to believe they are only getting immortal bonuses.
BTW, I noticed that the AI's were already starting out with max 50% time needed for improvements. Is this a relatively new cheat, or has it been there for a while? I haven't seen anyone mention this before.
The one thing that hasn't changed though, is the AI is doing God-aweful builds from the start. What's up with that Firaxis? Fix your busted AIs.
That's been there for a while, but I don't think most players are aware of it. It's funny since it lets you build improvements faster on AI terrain once you take it over since lots of times, the AI workers started building random improvements on some of the tiles.
The difficulty issues were due to a 'mod' on my part to add difficulty settings. Further games will not involve it and should play as intended.
Didn't know about AI building improvements faster... that's just plain mean.
BTW, you REALLLLLY need to figure out how to use spoilers on your images. It's taking me ages just to do a simple refresh on this thread, and then I have to scroll wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy over to get anywhere.
