Oh, and why does Catherine suck so much at Earth18civs?

In my game she was #2! She was actually much bigger than in my minimap (map wasn't updated) and had 2 vassals I think. That Roosevelt never vassal'd to monty was *truly* strange though. At one point roosevelt was #2...sick.

Re: AP win ---> I forgot that we can't build ships. In my game it spread there but if monty or HC pick up religions over there there's no guaranteed you get auto spread, so it looks like UN and Space are the only consistently attainable victories.

what a suprise! :D

Well... its just; Catherine in the hands of a human is SOOO "broken"... the queen of rex...

The Dalai Lama: LHASA!

The slightly built and elderly man shuffled across the hill as he looked upon the massive mountian in front of him. The followers have grown attached to this peaceful and kind man, listening to every word he says. Surly this is someone in tune with this world and the other, for no other leader in this world can possibly understand the mysteries of Mysticism.

A young man approaches, "Wise one, teach us what it means to live. Teach us to have meaning in life. Please kind sir, give us guidance."

Tenzin Gyatso looks upon the young leader bowing on the floor. "Arise sir, for you should not be bowing to any man, let alone myself. I hear your words, and this mountain enclosed area would make a great establishment. Come, I will lead the people gathered here."

And the people settled along the sacred river, and called their city Lhasa

DLA0000.jpg

The people were pleased and gave Tenzin a new name, the Dalai Lama

"As long as you stay to one pure city, I promise the Tibetan people shall endure and prosper. Come, let us think and meditate while our warriors search for things which shall help us."

And so the warrior explored finding 2 huts for 64 and 72 gold while the Tibetan people kneeled on the floor and prayed with the Dalai Lama. Meanwhile the productive members of the city needed no such prayers and started training a worker to build a farm upon the wild grasses on the northern hill which was known as wheat.

However, a great builder in the city decided that this gentle man needed to have a statues made of himself, so all the people for miles could be inspired. Instantly, almost by magic a najestic statue was constructed

DLA0001.jpg

The mysterious man died from his efforts but promised he would be reborn soon from teh joy that this statues brings to the people. The Dalai Lama is a humble man, yet understands the people's need for this symbol

"My friends, look to this when times need to change in our city, for never shall there be riots in the streets as long as the face of that statue shines on us.

Very soon the warrior met another leader who had a similar disposition to the Dalai

DLA0002.jpg

Trained well, the warrior spoke pleasantries and moved along. The Dalai spoke that he forsay very good relations with the leader to the Southwest.

In the year 3575 BC all the people of Lhasa finally came to a realization as the Dalai smiled up them, "Ah, you all see now!"

DLA0003.jpg

And truely they did! Love and trust of their neighbors is the true path. Happiness spread more in Lhasa as Buddhism was adopted as the state religion. Sometime later the faith of Hinduidm and multiple gods was founded, but that is no concern for the Tibetans. The Dalai does not preach Astheticism and urges the Tibetan peopl to feast and eat well, thus they start reserching Animal Husbandry for meat and added commerce from wool and production from the yoked oxen.

The warrior next met two less than friendly leaders

The first seamed pleasant enough but had a mistrustful look.

DLA0004.jpg

The latter was agressive and demanding

DLA0005.jpg

The Dalai Lama told his people to be kind and open with all, and the Tibetans greated both Chinese and Mongolian leaders.

As the Tibetans finished Animal Husbandry, the builder of the Majestic Statue was in fact reborn as promised,

DLA0006.jpg

Norbert Rillieux was ready to quickly build anything requested or ready to take up residence in the city for eternity. The Master Engineer looked expectantly at the Dalai who grinned, bowed and.................

So there we have it. Two techs and a Great Engineer coutesy of the Christo Redentor! As this opportunity does not arise very often I thought it best to toss it out for suggestions!

First the Map

DLA0007.jpg

We have cut off contact between India and China, perhaps an interesting thing.

But for now, things to discuss

1) Great Engineer? Worth using on the Pyramids once we have Masonry? Or Settle?

2) Speaking of which, what do we research next? How long do we delay hunting/archery? I assume several warriors are enough and we can get dog soldiers with mining/BW. I am look at Masonry and the wheel.

3) Build? Do we go after Stonehenge right away, or spam out some warriors to asure defense of the lone hill entry point?

4) Hinduism fell fast, do we go after polytheism/monotheism after masonry/wheel to try and found Judaism?

Lot's of choices here!

Moderate start :)

but you got Buddism allright...

i would suggest The Oracle and some more Great Profet points

1) I settled. With stone and OCC we can get the wonders by hammering them out. A GE settled is going to be worth > 1000 :hammers: PRE multipliers at this point, and that's before we even consider the rep beakers, OR, forge, etc. I felt this was so strong that rushing a wonder I would likely get anyway wasn't even close.

2) Delay hunting/archery forever or if you need archers/longbows, until then. Crowded by India/China, not needing to expand, and having a hill/forest choke where a warrior can defend at 4 STR w/o promotions is not a situation to gun early archery.

3) Anything more than 2 warriors is silly. You might want a 2nd worker at some point however.

4) By the time you complete wheel/masonry, it might not even be a consideration. Judaism goes very rapidly with 18 civs.

Buddhism is the one true faith. Do not sully the way with the trifling ways of the barbarian nations.

Personally, i wouldn't go for another religion for the purposes of the challenge (role play challenge) OF course it is up to you, but sullying the buddha's name with evil false religions would clearly be aginst the spirit of the Lama. Who i believe is a devout buddhist and who ran a theocratic state before mao the atheist got all annoyed at him.

I'm concerned about how remote this site actually is. Neither option of roads or fishing and sailing seems appealing. I don't know that roads will even connect properly without fishing.

Roads w/o fishing will connect but will take a long time to build. However trade network for religious spread will function even if only the AI has sailing AFAIK. He will need to bridge the city into the rivers that actually reach the ocean however.

Missionaries are an option too. A recommended one for nearby civs at least. Mono isn't a bad tech to have considering that virtually every :hammers: invested will be in buildings/wonders for most of the game, but it's doubtful he'll be founding judaism if some of the AI already have poly.

Can we go after barb cities that may pop up to the south. At least it may net a little extra cash.

It's fine according to the rules...if that cash (which you don't need for deficit research) is worth more to you than hammers invested into wonders, improvements, or research. Remember, if the hammer cost of the units to capture a city is > the gold you get from taking it, you're probably better off just building research, and then only if you have nothing better than research to build.

Extra gold can be used to buy tech but this is not super efficient (with your settled spec spillover there is no alternative, but with units razing cities the AI will settle over sooner there is an alternative).

I wonder if the #'s even work out in favor of capturing a barb city to autoraze it in OCC.

I get your point. I was thinking in more of an opportunistic fashion. I am wonderspamming (even going for Chitzen this time which I figure couldn't hurt for the GP points and who knows if I might need the defense). However, I am building a few archers/dogs here and there and sending them out to scout or just sit on that hill at our single entrance. If the happen on to a barb city that's being pummeled by other Civs and opportunity arises to take out a weakened barb archer...why not.

Bud is spreading quite nice in my game with the shrine. I built a few missionaries but trying not to focus on that too much for now to get in good buildings/wonders.

That's all well and good for the GPP, but don't forget you are only allowed 1 warrior in the city itself, which makes CI decidedly uninspiring defensively .

Also there is a direct tradeoff in OCC (and really in non-OCC also) in terms of beakers vs units. Every hammer you put into a unit could have been a beaker. That's not to say one shouldn't build units, but building more than is necessary to survive (esp in a game where we can't declare war) is definitely questionable.

Despite having prophet wonders I didn't get a prophet from the RNG until > 1000 AD . Buddhism was still a powerful shrine though.

Yeah, I didn't even think of that. Defense is pretty much useless. Diplo is the best defense. However, it is a stone bonus Wonder so I guess it can't hurt - and for a time it was about the only thing I could build other than spamming Bud dudes - which actually aint a bad idea.

With all the gold being generated, trade possibilities are endless. Although it wasn't explicitly called out in the rules, I wonder if trading for horses is considered against the spirit of the game. If I did so I'd like to build at least one mounted unit for the visibility promo.

Statue should have been Siddhartha Gautama, and then you realize later that it's Buddha. If you want to play role playing accurately, you should spread buddhism to China and Mongolia pretty soon. Lhasa should have been 1 north (cultural borders reaching across the everest so you can work rice? what's this nonsense), there should be at least one more cow, a lake to the north, a lake to the west, and a holy mountain-ish area to the west.

More RPCish would be using apolistic palace level influence to direct Genghis to protect you from China.

From my shadow-experience (up to 1000 AD so far) everything TMIT says is right. I did found taoism and confucianism though, shrined all three (thanks to the oracle and later Angkor Wat). I'd be amazed if you don't get declared on by a big Jewish bloc at some point...

If I wanted historical accursacy yes, but this a Mad Scientists's Role Play Challenge that Bastardizes history! SO we build a statue to The Dalai Lama and settle on teh river to harvest Bananas and rice! :D

Regarding Qin and Khan, I think Qin is easy to tame as long as I can Buddhism there early and adopt Bureacracy.

Are you allowd to use the coal in your boarders or will you delete it. (Since its earth map and known I assume you already know there is coal close to you :p)

Legendary culture can potentially get coal and oil actually, and per his rules he's only going to delete ones that pop from a mine.

Yeh in my shadow I got both coal and oil now so got curious :p but the game isnt as hard as it looks really I am even first in GNP:) China is rich giving them 91 gold per turn :D
