Have an Idea with Italy, I'll make it like GB, split up into different parts but under a unified system.

I'm working on a realistic approch on a global Catalan empire if it had existed. I'm still getting historical data of behavior of catalan merchants et al. arround the world and drawing maps. It will take lots of time, but here's my work in progress:

Dark red: Was part od the Crown of Aragon (I know I forgot the Duchy of Neopatria)
Red: Areas with high probability of have been annexed to the empire.
Pink: Areas with high probability of have been vassalized and/or medium probabilities of have been annexed.
Dark Yellow: Areas that would have seen some sort of Catalan activity or with low probabilites of have been annexed.

Give most of southern France to Catalan, they preferred Aragon over France until that Albigensian crusade.

So instead of the 4 parts of the UK... we get Savoy, Lombardia, Latium, and Naples? :D

The start point is the 15th century, when the iberian global empires emerged, so that's way after the Albigesian crusade.

Spoiler use frickin spoiler tags tlo jeez :

Greece should have more of Thrace if it's taking lands away from Bulgaria randomly. Why did Greece take stuff from Bulgaria but allow Bulgaria random stuff in formerly-Turkish Thrace? :confused:

Is it supposed to be remotely plausible? Cause if Aragon is screwing with all that stuff they're going to get as badly raped as Spain did starting in the latter half of the sixteenth century. Except it'll happen much, much faster.

No, it's based on behaviour of historical Catalan explorers, settlers, merchants etc. So it's a way to reproduce the same actual (+ some highly imaginative movements required to fill the blanks of history) interests and colonizations of Catalans into a global empire. Let me tell you those.
For example, in the Americas we see that Catalans control Cuba (with lots of historical ties with Catalonia), Costa Rica (the same above), California (first explored and colonized by catalans and very attractive to us because of the same climate) and the southern cone (firstly colonized by us and with lots of historical ties, e.g., Buenos Aires was founded by a President of the Generalitat).
In Europe it has annexed Hungary (see royal ties with the Crown of Aragon), Albania (see Skanderbeg) and, using these, it would have most certainly expanded further (following the coast due to logistic reasons) in order to stop the Ottoman expansion. Meanwhile, it has vassalized Essen (an importat trade point for the Crown of Aragon in Europe).
In Africa we see that it has followed the Trans-saharian trade route and in Asia we see that it has tried to build a bridge to Persia, which was in its agenda as early as the 14th Century.
The rest is not-that-totally made up.

I don't think so, but I've have to acknowledge that it would have had LOTS of trouble.

If we follow the same timeline of history we see that it's in fact a very gradual expansion. In the 15th century it would have annexed Albania and probably Greece while it had tried to build (or begun to) a "land bridge" to Persia. In the early and mid 16th century it would have colonized Cuba, Costa Rica and the Southern Cone and, at some point, had begun its expansion into Africa (maybe it would have happened much earlier but, who knows?). In the late 16th century and 17th century it would have most certainly annexed the rest of the Balkans and end the bridge to Persia in the struggle against the Ottoman Empire. In the 18th century it would have annexed the north western american coast. As you can see, a very gradual (and so plausible) expansion.

Here's a by-product of my little Celestia add-on project - behold the map of Chiron (the Planet on which Sid Meir's Alpha Centauri takes place). I created it by merging screenshots of the in-game map. The landmarks are accurately placed too.

And here is the original file, 4096x2048 resolution (in other words BIG):

And here's how the raw map looks when used as texture.

So far I've made no adjustments. Any ideas how to make it look more realistic (land edges, projection, colors, etc.) in Photoshop?

AgeofImperialismMap8.png

Just a clip from my AoI 4.0 story. I apologise for the borders not being the most aesthetically appealing, but we're in 1904, being right in the middle of the Great War(December 11, 1902-?), where the first alliance on it's face is Britain vs. everyone else(thanks to Russia going to war with Britain, but spamming military alliances), but there is also:

The South American War(New Grenada vs. La Plata);

The Eurasian War(Portugal, France, Scandinavia and Russia vs. the Balkans, Austria-Hungary, The Lowlands, and Germany), the Second Phase of it(the First Phase, Scandinavia was fighting against Russia, before making peace and switching to Russia's side when Germany declared war).

Russo-Japanese War;

Argentine-Uruguayan War;

There's countless conflicts all over the place, with everybody's troops slaughtering eachother. Spain and Italy are the only ones who retain any sanity, being at war with one power alone: Perfidious Albion.

I'm Spain, if anyone's curious.

White borders indicate actual borders, color indicates effective control.
