Work in Progress - Conquests of Might and Magic III

The first scenario is fully playable, and working properly. But there are still things that are missing from the map (structures, etc), that simply need to be added in. And some BIQ units have not been given a purpose yet, since I have not decided on how to best implement them.

Charm units need their values to be massively lowered, since Charm bombard attacks every single unit in the whole stack per bombard, not just the top unit.

For Alpha Test, should it include 1st scenario and epic game? (Epic game will be missing almost everything compared to scenario's since those things can't be put in, such as usable artifacts, map structures, etc).

I can release Alpha test, once I get unit values for BIQ done, and all units entered, etc. But it would still be very early release; probably not worthy of public release, but I would not mind at all. Actually it would help me complete it quicker if anything.

There are many things I am hesitant on in how they are implemented... I finally figured out how to put in Town Portal, Teleport, Dimension Door, Stronghold Escape Tunnel, and Inferno Castle Gate; and they all act similar to how HoMM3 did (talk about a balancing act with that one!).

Hello, many apologies again for the long delay, Tom -- I have had a slew of college projects to catch up with, but now they have been taken care of and I spent Wednesday finishing the collection. Last night though I found some leaders had already been covered at the Might & Magic wikia with the maps so I have linked there too.

Duke Winston Boragus: Here is the wiki page with all images of Boragus.

Queen Catherine Ironfist: Here's a good image, there are many more as I'm sure you guys know, but I think we all know what Catherine looks like in any case ;)

Elvenking Eldrich Parson: Here is a good image of Eldrich; he is the bearded elf in the middle.

Grand Vizier Gavin Magnus: This is what Gavin Magnus looks like around the time of Heroes III. He is far different in Heroes IV, looking much younger.

Lich King Gryphonheart: Again, this page appears to have all images of Gryphonheart there are out there.

Queen Mutare: I think Mutare Drake is what you're looking for, so here are her official renders.

King Lucifer Kreegan and King Tralossk have no images at all! They are never seen in game; Lucifer is only described as resembling an Arch Devil while Tralossk is a Lizardman.

You will also need a leader for Conflux. I think the only possible choice is Tamar the Wanderer, the Lord of Air (who is a background character in the Armageddon's Blade missions). He has no images, but is described as:

"a tall slender man dressed in long robes, his face hidden behind an azure hood. The silver runic trim of the deep blue robes glimmers slightly, diverting attention away from his withdrawn countenance. All that is visible of this mysterious man's face is his neatly trimmed black beard and strong lower jaw. He speaks in low tones, barely above a whisper, with a slight accent noticeable."

For Lucifer Kreegan, I may just partially base it off the image from A Devilish Plan. It doesn't specifically say this is Lucifer Kreegan, but it looks like it fits the bill (we know that is not Xeron).

Sounds almost like a Psychic/Magic Elemental, but with a semi- human face.

Actually now that you remind me of it, that Devil probably is indeed supposed to be Lucifer. Tamar I think would look more like a cross between the human Sandro from Shadow of Death and Mysterio from Heroes IV, but your call. :)
 
You are probably right about Tamar, the more I read it the more that sounds like it. I could find nothing either online about Tamar as far as Pics.

I had an idea that MAY work in scenarios... but it has problems that may not let it work.

My thought was I could use the Space Race screen to show the town you are playing, and as you build structures, it would show them built (just as in HoMM3).

So this pic (or appropriate town) would be in place of Space Race, and seperate buildings would appear as they are built, just like in HoMM3! (Can't be animated though) :)

Technically is would work, but the problems are this:

1. Can't be used for improvements, since each spaceship part can be built only 1 time.
2. They block out almost all options. This really doesn't matter since some structures (such as creature producing structures) only auto produce units. The autoproduction number and unit selection stays active, so that could work.
3. But although #2 might work, #1 ruins it all.

Other buildings such as Mage Guilds, Taverns, Fort, Castle, etc... can't really use it either since they actually use certain options that spaceship parts grey out.

I can't really add extra buildings... since there are no spots left out of the 256 limit. Not all scenarios use all building spots though, so I could make minor changes and add in extra buildings (solely to show the town building progress).

It may be annoying if I do this though, because player would have to build worthless 10 unit buildings just for the screen. But it may be nice just to have it there.

Of course, I can't have it allowed to actually win the space race, so one building would require unobtainable resource.

Also, since each scenario only lets you play 1 town, it's no problem to do, and would be a nice touch... for epic games, it won't be in (due to Civ3 engine limitation).

Would this be more annoying, or a good way to increase the feel of the game? Yea or Nay? I may still give it whirl anyways to see how it goes.

Nice work Tom. I would suggest that the Griffon and the Firebird are too similar and will be hard for us old folks, who now require glasses. Well me at least. Monks and Zealots, I cannot really see, too small for me.
 
Unit Lines complete... and are shown above. I have posted links on first page. They will updated as I finish units.

I have removed the GIF's (except for Neutral Creatures) and put in Jpeg's instead; Gif's too messy, take too much space up. The Monk's are just as big as any other human figure, it was that the gif was small. Firebirds and Griffins look nothing alike in game, and are very easy to tell apart (as neither one is small). Furthermore, unless I find another Firebird/Phoenix graphic, or unless one is provided, there is nothing I can do about it. :)

None of these are dead-set, and some have a somewhat likelihood of being changed if I find a more appropriate graphic. Many are still not done, but are close to being finished.

I better get this out soon... because no doubt many will jump over to the Civ 5 bandwagon! And if Civ 5 is good or great... Civ 3 will likely die.

Therefore, after hearing that news... I am putting up a deadline of mid-March at latest for beta release.

I may eventually get Civ5... but after throwing my hard earned money down the drain with 4 (IMO, others like it... and it does have some things it was much improved on over 3), I will wait until I read many many reviews on it first!
