Dr kossin #25

One thing maybe save the bomb for after Drama. The bomb power is determined by the percentage commerce (at that instant) being fueled into Culture. It wouldn't matter much but eh. Looking forward to the war. Also if you were in Caste and turned everyone(in the bomb city) into Artists it also would amplify the power.

Tough break. If you take out Wang, Toku's culture will spread and he may have enough land/pop to break free from Ragnar, in which case it'd make your game a lot easier. Although toku rifles will be annoyingly hard to dislodge.

Let me sort if i understood your last round correct:
You got Toku laying under Ragnar early on.
So you basically beelined canons, payed for upgrade and beelined rifling, just... to declare on Wang's four city empire? Instead of solving any long term threats or working towrads some economy...
Meanwhile Hammi is big has his continent pleased with him and advanced up to communism.

Wishing you good luck.

To shyuhe: The only condition which is not fulfilled for Toku not breaking is population...

Eliminate Korea. Gift one Korean city to Japan and he can probably break the vassal state.

It seems there is no problem to conquest Vikings and Japan with cannons, but is strikes to me that too many cannons are built and more Rifles are needed.

Interesting... I've barely used the culture bomb at all in Civ 4... I need to read up on the mechanics.

Hmmm I didn't consider that to tell the truth, didn't look at the breaking off conditions. It could work but he might or might not break out even then, given the right hidden modifier, they could be Friendly with each other.

I'll take the luck ;)
I was kinda hoping to catch a break (Toku breaking free or Ragnar delaying rifles) but that isn't a good way to play on Deity obviously.
Who knows, I might turn around and go for space after WK.

The thing is Rifling isn't finished yet. I wanted to keep my pop for drafting/whipping rifles instead. I won't need that many units to take out WK but you're right.

Round 4

It was war against Wang Kon and his small empire.
Spoiler :

Facing mostly classical units and a few muskets later on, canons ripped him apart so there's really not much need for extra info over there.

I captured the first few cities with only a few lost canons.
Spoiler :

Meanwhile, Emancipation unhappiness was beginning to be a nuisance.
Spoiler :

This might seem controversial as a trade, but Ragnar was starting to research Rifling. Better get something in return rather than nothing. I had a turn of research into Corporation for the trade to work.
Spoiler :

Despite Wang only having 4 cities, there was quite a lot to be had in there.
Spoiler :

And he's gone soon after.

Then came the real nail biter. Magic infantry in both Ragnar and Tokugawa (yea, he was feeding him everything) :cry:

Whatever... I have little time to finish and a good amount of land so let's go for space.

Julius was once again a good trader, while Ragnar beelined military techs instead, still aiming at war overseas.
Spoiler :

I beelined Computers of course and then began workshoping the land over. I kinda hit a snag when the U.N. forced Environmentalism so production wasn't as high as possible. In any case, my Ironworks city managed just fine and I got The Internet.
Spoiler :

It also got me more techs, although I still had to manually research 4 of the SS ones.

I assigned 6 cities to building SS parts, with my 2 main hammer cities being Aksum in Bureaucracy and Gondar the IW city. They both built an Engine for a full-fledged S.S.
Tokugawa sabotaged a Casing at one point but it didn't delay my launch date.

Hammy was really pretty fast and even built the Space Elevator. Out of nowhere...
Spoiler :

Gosh, he was missing 4 parts the turn prior!

My last engine finished the same turn, so I launched as well.
Spoiler :

So, jump in transports, nuke capital and win, right?
Not exactly. First off, the UN banned nukes :(

Secondo, it seems Hammy felt breathed down the neck as...
Spoiler :

Only 4 thrusters!
:lol: :clap::hammer2::rotfl::thanx:

Wait 10 turns... and win.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~Post-game
Bad exploration made the game harder, but it also made Tokugawa a land target for Ragnar, which might have made it easier at the same time. The Internet was the game winner combined with the several large fast teching AIs.
Had Ragnar not vassaled Tokugawa, I would have gone for him even against rifles as he lacked canons. Then the game could have gone pretty much anywhere...
Deity is still pretty hard for me and I need some more war practice, modern war especially. My techrate also could use some work post 1000AD but also pre-1AD. Need I mention exploration?
What was built...
Spoiler :
And the top 5 cities (I have one hehe)
Spoiler :
In any case, fun game and tomorrow I'll get started on the next one as usual.
Well done! :)
What never seems to amaze me is how players like me can grab liberalism and win economics as well. I can usually get liberalism or economics, but not both.
What techs did you focus and how do you approach trading in order to get to economics first as well? It seems a lot of the AIs tend to focus on the bottom part of the tech tree and I fail to get banking in in time to make it to economics.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Easy, don't trade Education and get your hands on Guilds
;)
It's not always possible ofc but seeing as AIs usually delay Education, it becomes easier.
My inner grammar Nazi compels me to point out...
Canon- a law, or rule of doctrine or discipline
Cannon- a large mounted weapon that fires heavy projectiles
Nice win.
I wish you'd lose even one of these games :lol: Good job, as usual.
AH, that explains a lot, I typically trade education away for some reason... Stupid me! :) This should help quite a bit in grabbing economics in at least some games, thanks!
Congratulations. I would probably quit without saving when toku capitulated to Ragnar. You handle economy very well without spamming cottages.
Congrats! I can't believe Ham had one less booster than you did.
It was pretty surprising he launched. Actually, this is the first time I see an AI launch with fewer than 5 boosters. He did get the tech pretty late and I guess he saw I was close to launching.
I'm too used to writing canon, the musical style. Now that you say it though, I've just noticed that it's written like that in Starcraft 2... :shifty::shifty:
So, does it mean that we enforce canon with cannons? :)
If need be :p
Yea, I'm getting pretty lucky. The Pacal map I definitely should have lost. I guess my criteria for non-isolation or semi makes it a bit easier though. For good measure however, I've lost plenty of offline games in the meantime, it just seems I put more care in posted games.
np!
I was really mad when that happened. You need at least a 40 war winning count to get the second civ to capitulate. Cities count for 10 and units for 1... I really don't see how he lost 30 units without Ragnar losing anything =\
I think I could use cottages a bit more however. I tend to use them almost only in the capital where they really shine with Bureaucracy and an Academy+Oxford. While not making a pure cottage city, at least not until Emancipation, I should try putting some more up in a few cities. While production cities are more versatile, cottage cities really are better for putting up bpt, which I seem to lack a bit on Deity.
