Tom's Unit Factory

Golshan (unit conversion)

Golshan is a twisted (literally) and cruel mockery of a Kohan. Once the proud and stern Regent of the Istari, Golshan is now one of Abaddon's queens, little more than a plaything and a soldier of the lord of the Fallen. She still reigns over the blighted ruin of her homeland, but now she provides her people with nothing but suffering.

No Civ Colours.

The chain (or w/e it is) from her left hand to the ground (she is chained to darkness?) is shadowed in game; and cannot be seen unless on very light terrain.

It's just the infinitum conversions that I will no longer be doing... I may go out and pick up some of those games or buy them off ebay if I can get them cheap there. The problem with some of the Infinitum units is no shadows, and that their offsets for each direction for each unit are all not centered, so it is a serious pain to correct.

I will keep doing conversions though. There are alot of Kohan units, so they will continue to roll in.

:bounce: Great to hear Tom. I should have read your post more carefully.

I haven't even looked at what units are in the game yet, I was unable to find a unit list (showing a small graphic or what not) from Kohan 2. But if there are dragons, I will do them... I was going through the Fallen units right now. Perhaps I will do a dragon after I finish the current unit.

Seems there are alot of animated Portraits (ahem, leaderheads :)), I will have to check those out and see if they can be used or not for leaderheads. Many are creatures I think, so they would be just single era I suppose. All may have to be single era... (I can't make anything complex in 3ds Max currently).

Also, some of the animations I have problems with... they seem to rotate about in circles in a few instances. I don't know if it is with 3ds Max trajectories, rotation controllers, or what. I'm pretty sure it's not position controllers... but these units will have to wait until I can figure out how to modify the animations to keep them from doing this.

converted LHs sound pretty awesome

oh and Deliverator made some Kohan conversions for Civ
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=350259

im not really sure if those are easier to convert

Sure did! I had no idea... Since Civ 4 uses NIF and KF files as well, and Kohan uses NIF and KF files, chances are it was quite easy to convert those, because the only difference is the NIF/KF version numbers.

once I get each unit setup, rendering takes under 20 min's. Getting them setup takes the longest, about an hour. Completing the unit takes a bit of time (letting Photoshop batch process the images to get best size of unit in game, etc). I see those dragons you are talking about though, I'll try to do those next.

Perhaps I can check out the Civ 4 files for the animations I am having trouble with, to see if it is any different with those!

Carrion Crawler (unit conversion)

The carrion crawler is a scavenger of subterranean areas, feeding primarily upon carrion. When such food becomes scarce, however, it will attack and kill living creatures.

The crawler looks like a cross between a giant green cutworm and a cephalopod. Like so many other hybrid monsters, the carrion crawler may well be the result of genetic experimentation by a mad, evil wizard.

Carrion crawlers are much-feared denizens of the underground world. They live in lairs, venturing out in search of carrion or food every few days. Some underground inhabitants such as goblins and trolls will make use of carrion crawlers by leaving the bodies of dead foes out in designated areas. This keeps the creatures at a good distance from their own homes and encourages them to "patrol" certain areas. Some orcs have been known to chain live prisoners near the lairs of these fearsome monsters.

No Civ Colours.

If not LHs they could be used as advisors - who are static with a variety of expressions. So single frame graphics would work. What file format are the portraits in?

A lot of the units you've shown will be useful as rakshasas in the India scenario I'm making glacial progress with.

I will spell out the whole name of the game, instead of abbreviating it. I didn't even think about it. Many probably don't know what AoW:SM stands for :)
I didn't until I googled it.
It's actually a very good game, but the AI has some flaws. With a better AI it would top all other turn based strategy games in my opinion. If you want to try it, get a cheap German version of the game, otherwise you'll be paying 10 times as much, while a German copy will still install in English, so you won't miss anything.

Sorry for getting off topic in your thread, Tom. Now and then I'm peeking at this thread to see what wonderful conversions have seen daylight. I'm not a modder, so it's just picture watching for me.

NIF and KF files, same as Civ 4 uses (different versions though). There are alot of them also, perhaps a hundred or so?? (give or take 30 :)). That's a good idea, advisors also would work well.

Here's a sample portrait, they are animated, but might not be enough of the unit (since it stops at shoulders for most) to fill a Civ 3 style leaderhead. The ones I have looked at are all similar to how this is setup.
Portrait.jpg

I get some strange probs here, on some of these pieces of the body are being stretched (like they are pinned to a certain location) and as the unit moves, the dragon's foot is always stretching to this single location.
StormDrake.jpg

That is how it is not when I import the mesh but when I import the animation file. So I'm thinking it has something to do with that, but unsure.
EDIT: I can't figure it out, and I don't have forever time; I'll post on some 3ds max forums and wait for an answer, and resume at that time.

Perhaps you could use a background with a dark bottom:
View attachment 245153

To make the lack of shoulders "disappear":
View attachment 245154

This presumably could then be cropped or resized to Civ Leaderhead dimensions.

Just a thought. Are there any Space Princesses, White Apes, or Evil Genius types in there?

That's a good idea, perhaps I could even place some type of foreground there (same as background, but just in front) to help block the no-body view. I'll have to see what units are in the game that could be used as one of those :). Of course, I don't know exactly how to add complex things in 3ds Max, but if someone does, I could send them the .MAX file with the animations and portrait.

They should be pretty easy to do, since it just involves rendering the needed amount of screens with the choosen animations, and then saving the flc in Animation Shop.

Scorpions (unit conversion)

This pack contains 3 Scorpion units; Large, Medium, and Small versions.

Scorpions are opportunistic predators. They use their pincers to catch the prey initially. Depending on the toxicity of their venom and size of their claws, they will then either crush the prey or inject it with neurotoxic venom. This will kill or paralyze the prey so the scorpion can eat it. The pincers, which are very sharp, are used to pull small amounts of food off the prey item for digestion.

No Civ Colours.
