RoM Latest Version

@50caliber
So maybe enter World Builder and take away archery from AI?

possible solution... however.. it kinda ruins it a little bit because it exposes who the rival civs are before you actually meet them, and also potentially gives away their locations as well..

Runtime error, after RoM 2.8 install and choosing Single Player ...

Just updated to Win 7, installed CIV 4 + patch (3.19).

I've used RoM for a long time in Win XP and love it, but can't get it to work with my new Win 7. A very very sad thing!

Here is what i've done, to install the mod.

  • Downloaded RoM 2.8 (tried with both Full and Mega with same result)
  • Extracted the rar to my BtS Mods folder and checked that the folder structure is correct (it is)
  • In CIV menu, i choose to load a mod, and then choose RoM (CIV began initializing)
  • This is where things got problematic. Because when i choose Single Player, the game froze for a long time and then crashed
  • Runtime error ("This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.")

As far as i can see, in posts around the net, some people with Win 7 can get it to work, whilst others can't.

I would really much like to get this resolved so i once again can enjoy CIV 4 and RoM.

@Ciffor

Yeah, it's odd that some have issues on Win 7 and some not - I haven't had a single problem on Win 7 yet and I've been using it since last summer (RC version first and now Home edition). Is there anything different between your old OS and new OS settings? Might help too if you posted log files from your game - see the feedback threads for instructions.

does anyone know how to make it so that the barb units cannot surpass the units of the player and the AI civs? the barbs have spearmen while the player & AI are on warrior.. thought it my have something to do with this in the xml/handicapinfo folder but i could be wrong:

<GoodyType>GOODY_BARBARIANS_WEAK</GoodyType>
<GoodyType>GOODY_BARBARIANS_WEAK</GoodyType>
<GoodyType>GOODY_BARBARIANS_WEAK</GoodyType>
<GoodyType>GOODY_BARBARIANS_STRONG</GoodyType>

Thanks for responding, zappara. On the spot as always, are you :)

Well. Now i've made the log file for you to investigate. As i can see, with my novice level of knowledge to CIV 4 files, there are quite many errors present. Primarily in the Audio and Pythonerr files. But also in the others. Don't know if these errors has any influence on the mod however.

Regarding different OS setting i can't be sure. A lot of new stuff was presented to me, when i turned on Win 7 for the first time. But i havn't altered anything, that i think could have an impact on RoM or CIV 4: (BtS)

Well, in the logs there wasn't any critical errors but as you mentioned there was couple errors with audio and one with RoM_Smartmap mapscript loading. The path where the mod is located is working correctly. So I got 2 suggestions to try next: first turn off audio and then try the mod. If that doesn't help, then check if RoM_Smartmap script is in 'Rise of Mankind\PrivateMaps' -folder and delete it if it exists there. Then go to BtS folder, double click _Civ4Config to open CivilizationIV.ini and there change the map define line to look like this:

; Map Script file name
Map = RoM_RandomScriptMap

Save the ini file and restart mod (hold down shift key while the mod loads so clear out BtS cache). If these don't help, then post new logs so I can check if new logs show something different that could provide hints to this problem. Also make sure you got the RoM 2.81 patch installed (full and mega have different patches).

Well, nothing changed when i ran the mod without sound. But ... when i removed the file in privatemaps and changed the CivilizationIV.ini file interesting things started to emerge. This time, i got pass the "Single Player" option and all way through options screens, to where the game could begin. Sadly, it crashed followed by an error message, stating something about my DirectX, graphics card and drivers.

Btw. i've installed the RoM mega pack and the matching patch 2.81.

Attached new logs.

I really appreciate you helping and want to use your time on this!

@Ciffor

Nothing odd in the logs other than the renderer fails as you mentioned. You could try deleting some of the modular civs in the mega version. Go to 'Rise of Mankind\Assets\Modules\Custom Civilizations' and delete some civs that you don't need and then try the mod. Your not the first that has reported that Mega version crashes when starting to create the map - some have managed to bypass this situation by deleting some modular civs. Or you could try reducing graphics settings.

By the way, have you tried RoM 2.81Full version instead of Mega? If mega isn't working for you, you should try full version instead.

Ok. Tried to delete a bunch of civs and used only standard world size. This time, i got to play one round before i got a fatal error message like this:

"Memory allocation failure - exiting program. Reason: bad allocation."

And i tried the full version as the first thing when i installed CIV again in this Win version. But i could try it once more, and see if any of the suggestions you have supplied me with, could result in a success.

EDIT: Btw. My machine is equipped with a Nvidia GTX 260 and 4 (3.30) GB ram.

I'm sorry if this is all clear for everyone but me... but I couldn't find a link to download the Lite version of ROM 2.8. The link on first post leads me to a download page for a file larger more than 430 mb. I suppose this is the Full version so where am I missing the correct link?

Tnx in advance for support and for your great work.

Bal.

Edit: Humm... I must presume that perhaps Lite version is no more published.

Balerion:

Follow this (link). Under the very first post at the bottom, you will find two attached zip files. Download the first one saying "RoM2.8Torrents.zip" and then unzip it. In the zip file, there are two torrentz, one for full and one for lite version and you just choose the one you want. To use these torrentz and to download RoM 2.8, you need a bittorrent client.

I installed ver. 2.9 the other day. I'm now at about round 500 and everything runs smoothly. So whatever it was that didn't work with mega and ver. 2.8 + patch, is solved in this version.

Just fyi :-)

did someone try a multiplayer game created from a savedgame? we are having tons of problems trying to connect to the host to continue our last game

EDIT:

We found out that the best way to avoid problems when loading previous savegames:
The player who creates the game (from a savegame, off course), has to RENAME the savegame is going to use, because we think the reason is incompatibilities or different savegames from the save game

works perfect i guess for that!

Hi zappara, Great job!

I'm from China, and one of old version in 2.62 has been translated into Chinese by the fans of civclub.net.

My suggestion is, could you please add a new world wonder "Qin Shi Huang's Terracotta Army" in the next version? the function of the wonder would be like to "King Richard's Crusader", means generating land units in a few of turns.

You can refer to "the museum of Terracotta Army" at this offical site - http://www.bmy.com.cn
If need any help, I'd like to support you.

Hi daytona, maybe we could work together to add some Chinese stuff to this mod, like wonders?
