Les Heralde Belgique
Belgians welcome soldiers home!
Following the signing of the Second Treaty of Belgium, our men and women at arms are being returned to their homes and families. All naturalized Belgian citizens are welcome to return to their homeland on the convoys that are being prepared. Prime Minister DeNantes is calling the treaty a great success for Belgium, and says it will assure a rebirth of the Belgian economy. Inside parliament, one could hear the pop of champaign bottles that served as a constant background noise throughout tonight's celebrations. In the streets of the provincial capital, the massive line of returning soldiers were greeted with hoots and cheers from a elated crowd. Belgian flags flew from every roof this morning, as hundreds of men, women and children flocked to the streets to celebrate what many political analysts are calling the end of the Great War.
Supreme General Pontemps' Speech to the Commonwealth Army
Mr. Pontemps is to make a speech to assembled Belgian enlisted military today in the provincial capital, as well as any civilians who might attend. Pontemps' speech has been kept very quiet and bottled up since the announcement of the signing, but it is sure to be a joyous occasion. It is hard not to be happy in these days, now that we see so many young men and women who might have had their lives ended on the field of war returning to their families. A new generation of Belgians will be born, that will again feel the warmth of a fireplace in winter, and the cool air of the Ardennes in the summer. Belgians everywhere are going home.
