Role Play Challenge, The Next Generation: Sid Meier, The Civilized Tyrant

This game makes me want to play a huge map with many leaders myself.

Random comment: it's fitting that among the two Russian leaders, it's Peter who got his capital as St. Petersburg.

Good luck, Scientist. ;)

I feel empathy for you, having recently played a 3v3v3 warlords modern age multiplayer game. :(

After declaring war on one of the teams and invading their mainland single-handedly, I was then nuked to hell by the Indians. Then the Americans, also in their team, mopped up, landing near and razing my cities as he went.

I suppose I probably deserved being abandoned to fight all three of them alone, as I had started the war without consulting my team-mates but, to be fair, one of the two Indian civs in the team I DOW'd HAD had destroyers lurking around my cultural borders for quite some time.

Nonetheless, hopefully the AI will not force you to endure the painful nuke-spam I was crippled under.

If only my computer could handle it, I'd much rather play a larger map with more civs. Maybe not 40, but 10 or 12 would give some different dynamics.

Sid Meier, The Civilized Tyrant: Protective Agressor

Sid paced back and forth talking to himself while the Civfanatic community grumbled behind his back. This was NOT good, and general "non-Nuclear" statement had been issued by Sid and while he was pragmatic the idea of such mass destruction is beyond his concience. The Civfanatic community however were a bloodthirsty band that demanded more and more warfare, rigthfully it was understood. However, the potential of nuclear anhillation without the ability to retaliate left a bad taste in the the Civfanatic community, clearly a compromise was in order.

Thus Sid transferred scientific research towards one last technology

SidN0000.jpg

11 turns for Laser. Sure mobile Sams and Artillery would be helpful, but SDI would protect the bulk of the Civfanatic empire and the knowledge of ecology and bomb shelters would provide sufficient protectionb nukes. As Sid eagerly watched his followers reaction he saw acceptance of these turns, yet more land was needed. Protection from Nukes was satisfactory with Sid's non-Nuclear policy.

Sid breathed a sigh of relief and focused his attention on eliminating the Celtics and Portugese. Meanwhile the internet managed to swipe this technology

SidN0001.jpg

Allowing Sid to deal with inevitable tanks with gunships.

First thing Sid did was to remove one rival at a time and Brennus was the weakest

SidN0002.jpg

Joaoa scowled on his landmass seeing his plans at getting a vassal sinking.

A Civfanatic was given governess, which Sid does not remember which.

Suffice to say that the following got their own cities

Amazon Queen
Bleys
Halt
Sjaremei
Myothername
DUTCHFIRE
Dirk1302
LEventis
Gooblah
Hereditary Rule
Hackapell
Mathewthegreat
Tycoonist
Infantry#14
Mesousa

The Civfanatic armada approached the Portugese capital

SidN0004.jpg

Looking to inflict retribution on the Portugese for spoiling Sid's plan to kill all Celtics and bringing the Zulu into the war.

Lisbon fell and was renamed. The remainder of Portugal fell in the fires of vengence.

After capturing the third Portugese city, we finished

SidN0009.jpg

And resumed directing all commerce towards gold. The City of MadScientist began construction of SDI, as such a noble mind was the best to construct such a device!

SidN0010.jpg

8 turns, plenty of time to put a whipping on the weakilings.

No getting to all Portugese lands with our navy required going through Aztec waters, which Montezuma was unwilling to do. So Sid asked his Civfanatic followeres if anyone objected to overrunning the Aztecs while we were at it. No one objected.

SidN0013.jpg

As the last Portugese were slaughtered, the Civfanatic army steamrolled against teh weak Aztec nation

SidN0015.jpg

Hey we were right there anyway!

Regarding Shaka, he refused to talk with us yet refused to send a military. Sid and Shaka resorted to writing nasty letter to each other while the civfanatics found someone else to beat up on.

SidN0015.jpg

Again all our troops were on his borders from the Celtic wars.

And while Hammurabi was fairly advanced we met little resistance

SidN0017.jpg

His navy proved more of a nuisance than his army did in defending.

Montezuma was even worse as Aztec Knights and rifles were no match for tanks and mechanical infantry

Eventually Shaka was willing to talk and Sid

SidN0021.jpg

wrote him a check just to get him out of his hair.

The assault on Aztecia continued

SidN0022.jpg

As Sid stle yet another tehcnology

SidN0023.jpg

All tanks are now Modern armor meaning we have great odds against the German Panzers in the furutre, especially with gunship support.

Babylon hit some hard times as the Confuscist Holy City

SidN0024.jpg

And former capital

SidN0027.jpg

Fell quickly.

Montezuma faired worse

SidN0028.jpg

Montezuma'a fate was given over to the Civfantic community, I cannot even discribe what befeld the poor Aztec leader.

At this point there is only one leader we are at war with, who's last city near us

SidN0029.jpg

Fell.

At this point Hammurabi had one city off-shore and a few more behind German lines, thus

SidN0030.jpg

So we saved here after doing a little city cleanup and finishing SDI in teh City of MadScientist

Demographics show

SidN0031.jpg

So at this point I am consolidating the entire Navy to the home lands and building a new massive army. SDI will protect us although Nukes are still a threat.

My thinking is that Willem and Bismark are the next leaders on our radar although Tolkugawa is now on the borders of the empire formally known as Aztecia!

Oh, and Justinian and Zara have been killing each other since the start of the segment! :D

Great fighting.
And Mad... You refrain from using nukes. But nobody said ANYTHING abou gifting them to AIs! :)

I'm amazed that one of your foes have 62million inhabitants. That's a large civ.

You got like 1 billion+ people now. Communist China much?

Sweet, you got SDI :D
I suggest that since the AI doesn't have robotics yet, that you get a lot of attack submarines and sorta run them around, to attack the tact nuke carrying subs, AI nails me with that a lot.
So.. get ready to get your coast nuked :(

Hellooo there, peoples. This is an amazing game MadScientist, best game I have seen on this site so far.

I'd love to give something similar a go (on a lower level though lol) however, I am forced to play my copy of Civ on a laptop, so I'm certain if I tried anything similar that it would melt a hole in the thing, turns would probably take an hour in the BC's lol

Anyways, brilliant game, been following with interest.

P.S MrBanana, if you check the numbers the CivFanatics population is actually just over 100 million not 1 billion, I reckon even once Sid owns every city in the world he still might not reach 1 billion, its a huge number. Of course I supose you could scale it up to real life, then 100 million might be the equivalent of 1 billion.

Blaah, disturbed1, beat me to the correction lol

if mad farms each city, he will reach 1 billion fanatics quickly. some pop 30++ cities will count for a lot i say. Will loose som production though...

First game I ever have seen where bomb shelters are build en masse :) and never was it that important haha. Brilliant game. Keep it coming mad!!!

Looking to start the enxt segment tonight, not sure how long it will take.

A few comments for discussion before though

1) I think it's time to farm/watermill/workshop all the cottages/towns now. We are at 100 million and I prefer to have as many Civfanatics in the empire as we can, at least until they start getting nuked.

2) Speaking of which, how effective is SDI? Also does it also protect against tactical Nuke or just ICBMs.

3) I am looking at building troops on the Celtic and Aztec landmasses, plus establishing a strong armada off the coast. I mean massive, even by MasScientist standards

4) Defense. I am thinking I need alot of defenders on coastal cities, each with alot of airdefense, mobile SAMs, and attacksubs.

I figure one segment on strong prep, then the never ending war the remainder of the game. Not sure exactly how many segments that will take.

2) Speaking of which, how effective is SDI? Also does it also protect against tactical Nuke or just ICBMs.

SDI has a 75% interception rate. Tacnukes have a multiplicative 50% evasion chance, so ICBMs have a 25% of hitting and Tacnukes 1-(0.75*0.5) = 62.5% chance of hitting through SDI.

Well, that means we are going to get nuked at some point unless some of the Ais have a built in no first strike option.

OK, how to deal with this

1) high food now, all the more to farm/watermill.
2) Make sure every city has a fallout shelter. I know already done, but some micromanagement is due here. That eliminates 50% damage from the nukes that get through.
3) Have 1 or 2 workers stationed in each city for immediate scrubbing the land and rebuilding
4) Have military in the land so I can get reinforcements real fast as I am not sure how the draft would go.

Sounds rather interesting, playing a defensive game against Nukes without diplomacy or the UN.

Regarding workers, you should station 1 worker near (but not within the nuc blast radius) all cities with airports. You can move them into the city and fly them to the nuked city. It would save on some worker builds.

Regarding getting nuked, the best way to minimize the risk of being nuked is to kill all nuclear powers 1st.
