Nebucnadnezzar v3 project

Purple was a status colour anywhere it was rare. It just so happens that blue and purple dyes are expensive to produce.

What I'd say to this issue is that it isn't a big deal. Blue is a fine color (blue and gold, at least in my mind, seem to be a pretty Babylonian color-scheme), I am just not too sure about the choice of clothing. Personally I thought the v2 Nebuchadnezzar was properly attired, so in my opinion this is a bit of a step back. Having said that, I do realize how difficult it is to work with Cyrus' robe, so I commend you for doing it,

What I really meant with the clothing, to clarify a bit here, was that Babylonians usually wore wrapped clothing. Which meant it wasn't normally in the form of the robe you guys are using, and also normally did not cover the arms entirely. I think a shorter-sleeved robe would work better. It is pretty easy to do actually, if you wanted to use the same robe you just keep the "cuffs" of the sleeves but delete everything between the cuffs and to the elbow. Then move the cuffs up to where you deleted everything and merge the vertices appropriately. This way you get a short-sleeved robe that still looks the way you want it to. :goodjob:

If you need help with it, post a blend and I can show you want I mean.

EDIT: didn't seen Panopticon's post, regarding the purple v. blue thing - I think purple was more expensive to make, because it required shelfish that were harder to collect (it also smelled horrible, so it was more expensive to pay the makers), while blue could be grown (I forget what plant was used for blue), but of course blue could be made from shelfish too. IIRC the Babylonians used blue more often as their royal color (as did the Israelites actually), Phoenicians used purple which (due to their trading on the med) became popular in Greece and Rome. That isn't to say it wasn't popular elsewhere as a noble color, I just think it wasn't as wide-spread amongst the Babylonians at the time of Nebuchadnezzar.

Purple is expensive because it's rare in animals and plants. It's rare in animals because it's rare in plants. And it's rare in plants because it contains no green, so it's useless for food production. Blue is even rarer in nature and the same arguments apply, but there were places where it was easier to extract than purple dyes.

The previous Nebucnadnezzar is also cool, but why is the nif over 5Mb? All the other LH's are at max 1Mb...
I would like to use it, but now I fear the Civ engine might struggle with it, and I like to use only optimized LHs...

Avain! How can you optimize a leaderhead?

There are a couple of tricks shown to me by others, a couple of tricks I learned and thought of myself:

- Use Triangulate (I don't know if this actually helps, but it does lessen the Triangle number)
- Use other dds formats that are more compressed
- Combine textures into single texture files
- Don't be afraid to resize a texture if it's used on a small or remote surface
- Open in scenviewer and export again
- Check if vertice number is ok, preferably below 10.000 -> if not, check if some parts of the model use a lot of vertices and can be removed without ruining it completely
- Remove unnecessary files
- etc...

I now have a pack of some of the best LHs made by you guys, it's now at 41 LHs and it's only 190 Mb. This is the standard I'm now keeping. I can already see a difference in loading times of the mod, the loading time of LHs when checked e.g. in Civilopedia, and most probably less gameplay issues such as MAFs.

If you are interested, you'll see this pack as Leaders of Varietas Delectat v3.0, which I'll be releasing in the near future.

EDIT: Wrong thread
