The first of many community features: The People and Places of Civ V

Greg, so when are you going to post this on other fan forums?

Everything I read is gold! Does that mean I have midas eyes?
If there's rose-tinted nostalgia, then what's gold plated future gazing?!? ;P

Lovin' the update info, particularly natural wonders and barbarian camps.

So, does maritime mean that the city state is a sea-faring kind of nation or what?
It means they make a lot of food.

Does it? Where are you getting this assumption from, I assume it does mean yes that it is a sea orientated city state.

"Maritime is a term that describes objects or activities related to the sea."

So my guess is the the "quest's" given out by a maritime city-state will be activities related to the sea, or perhaps the bonuses that they give out will be related to the sea, i.e +1 gold from costal tiles, or +1 ship movement. Similarily, Culture & militaristic city states work likewise.

.........

What I am looking forward too is the next report by Greg, Strategic View information, sounds good.

Awesome, awesome info. Also, thanks for the iPhone spoiler, really useful.

So good to move away from steam discussions!

goes to update confirmed features now

I have been waiting since March to see a distinction between worker and settler. Now about those scouts????

Thanks, Greg!

Thanks for the info, Greg.

Two questions come up.
a) Ruins only give benefits, so no risk of spawning Barbarians in a ruin like previously in the goody huts?
b) Barbarians are spawned only in their villages, so no Barbarian units pop out of nothing anymore?

a) This is correct. Ruins are only positive.
b) CommanderZ was correct; units don't spawn out of nothing, but the encampments themselves do.

Greg, I really appreciate the detailed info and continued feedback!

Are you allowed to tell us what the tents in this screenshot (northeast of newcastle) are?
Many of us believed it might have something to do with natural wonders, since it's only seen there and never again on the screens?

Elizabeth said that it's some sort of tile improvement, but that's it. Will probably figure out what it is eventually.

from the closed demo, he says that culture gives culture, military gives you uu's and maritime gifts you food.

edit: @tomice, we already know that old faithful and the barrier reef are natural wonders, so when you think natural wonder, they are waterfalls, volcanoes, famous landmarks, not a bunch of tents.

I believe Elizabeth would have said trading post, however there is something different about this one that I think she or Greg are not at liberty to discuss yet (a game mechanic). While this is speculation on my part, why is the color predominately purple in the brown territory?

I didn't see the statement from 2K Elizabeth before posting here, I'm smarter now. It's still not sure it's a trading post (very very likely though), could be another tile improvement.

Doesn't matter, it's not the thing I'm most curious about. What I'd really love to see is some info about the system replacing the BFC and cultural borders :

1) How exactly do cities gain tiles?
2) Do they belong to a city or to the empire as a whole? If it's the second, how is it decided which tiles are conquered if a city is taken? If it's the first, can they be handed from one city to another?
3) Will there be tiles within your border, but not being workable by any city?
4) Will culture be counted locally or empire-wide?

Apart from this, I'd also love to see something about the social policies, seems very interesting, but haven't seen more than a blurry mobile-phone photo...

1) culture growth or gold purchase
4) both. Culture is local AFASIK for border growth, but global for policy purchases.
