What's the AI Tech bonus at Emperor in BTS?

In particular, if I want to found Hinduism, does it matter if I work a 1 :commerce: tile, a 2 :commerce: tile, or a 3 :commerce: tile? (Assume I'm starting with Mysticism.) Or will I lose a race even working a 3 :commerce: tile?

The AI always plays on noble (at least I think it's noble). Your difficulty level just gives it other bonuses, but I don't think it changes AI research rate at all - it just slows your own research.

That doesn't really change my question, which is how much of a tech advantage does the AI have when I play at emperor?

I think this is what you're looking for. Apparently, at Emperor techs cost 20% more for you than for the AI.

Financial+Oasis might do the trick, but it will very much depend on how many other civs with Mysticism are on the map.

Thanks. Let's see if I can apply this correctly.

Polytheism is 100 :science: (I assume this is standard size, normal speed), and everyone starts with 9 :commerce: per turn before working any tiles. So if I work a 0 :commerce: tile, I'll finish in 14 turns (120/9 = 13.3), and an AI will finish in 12 (100/9 = 11.1). If I work a 1 :commerce: tile, I should also finish in 12 turns (120/10 = 12) and be able to found Hinduism (player moves first) if no AIs work any :commerce: tiles. If I work a 2 :commerce: tile, I'll finish in 11 turns (120/11 = 10.9), while if I work a 3 :commerce: tile, I'll finish in 10 turns (120/12 = 10).

So the only way I can win a race to Hinduism is if I work at least a 1 :commerce: tile and all my competitors work 0 :commerce: tiles. If any of them work a 1 :commerce: tile, my only hope is to work a 3 :commerce: tile, which is very rare.

Of course all this assumes I start with Mysticism, found my city on the first turn, etc.

Corrections?

The AI starts with a worker and Hunting. It might get a commerce increasing Camp up really quick, or it could grow its city to size 2 early enough to squeeze in a few more :science:

Corrections?
You'll also get a 20% discount, because you know the tech, Mysticism, which is pointing at Polytheism.
The discount are the extra beakers from the total of commerce you are using for research.
Example : Polytheism costs 120 :science:
Every turn you'll get 1 free :science: + 10 :commerce: from the slider + discount (10 :commerce:*0.2) is a total of 13 :science: per turn.
So, it takes 10 turns to research Polytheism.

Pretty much the only way you'll found buddhism or hinduism on emperor+ is if the AIs choose not to pursue it. It is nice if you get it, but basically never worth the risk of trying.

Oh, I forgot about the 1 free :science: per turn; that makes a difference.

I started up a game (standard/normal/emperor) as Huayna Capac, and I see that Polytheism is 156 :science:. Where does that number come from? This page says that Polytheism should be 100 :science:, but it seems that it's really 130 (156/1.2 = 130, to account for emperor).

Working a 0 :commerce: tile, I produce 12 :science: each turn (at 100% slider), which makes sense: 1 free :science:, 9 :science: from :commerce:, and 2 :science: from my 20% prereq bonus. So it's 13 turns to completion. Working a 1 :commerce: tile, I produce 13 :science: per turn, for 12 turns. Working a 3 :commerce: tile, I produce 15 :science: per turn, so 11 turns.

For the AI, assuming 130 :science: for Polytheism, that works out to be 11 turns when working a 0 :commerce: tile, and 10 turns when working a 1 :commerce: tile.

So the only way to possibly beat the AI in a race is to work a 3 :commerce: tile (and it's not guaranteed even then), so that's basically useless. The conclusion is what itg says: you have to hope you're the only one pursuing it, and it doesn't matter what tiles you work.
