SGOTM 11 - ChokoMisfits

Excellent progress, everyone! We are inches (millimeters?) from the finish line. :D

Glad everything has been cleared up about the CTD. I have only had that happen to me once playing Civ (not during a GOTM or SGOTM, thankfully). As JH said, it is rather startling and really breaks the train of thought.

JH, you mentioned all the conditions but one -- just to be sure, all AIs are running a state religion, correct? Just asking because I am stuck at work and can not check the save.

Sun Tzu Wu, forts can be surprisingly useful for claiming resources. You do not get the actual tile yield improvements, but you do get the resource. Sometimes a fort is the only way to get a resource, if the geography prevents the more usual connections. I had a stone resource on a tile once where it was by the coast, and all adjacent land tiles were mountains. Had to use a galley to get a worker there, and built the fort. A quarry would have given better tile yield (as there was a city 2 tiles away across the mountains) but would not have provided the resource.

Like you, I learned about forts as part of an SGOTM. These games are great learning experiences. And a lot of fun. :D

Good luck with the final turns, JH!

Sun, to be clear, we got the culture from Konya, and thus what I think you are asking for is for me to move our workers to the new Dye and build a plantation there ASAP, correct?

Sorry, no need to build a Plantation on Dye. I didn't realize that Forts on Resources function as the appropriate improvement and make sense to build on non-BFC Tiles.

Is there anything else you all may see on the save? We have quite a spies on resources and everything else seems to be set right, but please let me know

Especially since our Economy will Crash at the End of our Golden Age, every City that doesn't need to be running Artists should be running Merchants. Any City that can't grow another Population before Winning, should consume its Granary (but not to starvation) and run maximum Artists (for Cities needing Culture) and Merchants (for all other Cities).

Cities with huge Fpt growth, should probably maximize Growth for Maximum Population and run a single (free Mercantilism) Artist or Merchant, depending on whether or not we'd prefer more Culture per turn in the City.

are all AIs are running a state religion, correct?

Correct.

Okay, I have those notes. Let me do a few house chores and I will finish up

Best of luck! If and when you finish the job and submit the file, it is probably best to send another PM to AlanH (he will think you are spamming him, with this sudden burst of messages in quick succession!!!)

All Civs have a state religion (CHECK!)

CONGRATULATIONS TEAM!!!!!

I can give you guys the turn before victory save if you all would like this in your log too

I just had check whether we'd get a Domination Win next turn rather than a Diplomatic Victory in 3t.

No worries. We'd have barely half the Land we need for Domination.

We have just a 26 Population Margin for Winning Diplomatic Victory:

396 Required
422 For our DV
218 Against our DV (181 Justiian I, 17 Mehmed II, 20 Isabella)

So let's push for every Population gain we can reasonably get in all our Cities. Justinian I will be doing the same and may even start a War with Tokugawa to achieve it.

Our Win is assured as long as we continue to be Vigilant and don't become Complacent.

Great work wrapping things up, JH! :goodjob:

And thanks to everyone on the team -- this has been great fun, and I learned some new things in Civ even after all these years of playing Civ IV. :)

As ianw1610 mentioned, JH should send a PM to AlanH indicating our final save has been uploaded. Until we get confirmation, we should stay out of the other team threads. Given the hour we probably won't hear back until tomorrow. But then we can find out how everyone is doing. Are they all done already? Finished centuries before us? Left us the wooden spoons?

We will see. Great work, everyone! :woohoo:

The PM to AlanH has been sent, but he is probably asleep.

We know that we did not get the wooden spoon, because we can look at the graphs on the SGOTM Progress Chart and see that at least XTEAM, MAPLE SPORKS, and T'SOMETHING played more turns

I've had a wonderful experience developing and discussing Strategy and Tactics with all Members of this Team. Its been an real Joy playing on your Team. Our final Ranking doesn't Compare with the Experience of actually Playing with the finest Team in the SGOTM Competitions! However, a Laurel would be nice and I believe our level of Play deserves one. At the very least, I don't see a Wooden Spoon for us in my Crystal Ball.

I look forward to Conversing/Playing with you all in the Next SGOTM!

Well done everyone. As your dedicated lurker, it was a really interesting read and I also learnt a heap. I'm sure that the fact that this is the first SGOTM I didn't actually play and no wooden spoon for the team are just co-incidence though...

As my new PC arrives next week, I'll definately be keen for the next SGOTM.

OK, found this in the Who Dat thread...

Updated 10-Aug-2010.

8th of 13 isn't too shabby. There are some awesome finishing dates out there...

 :band: :bounce:

BIG CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE!!! It has been a privilege playing in such a strong team.

JerichoHill - I think you will need to PM each of us with the save file from the penultimate turn, as the Progress graph never updates with the final save.

When the save arrives to each of us via PM, check the names of the units on the Fur tile in the final save. My idea, of course... :mischief:;)

Congratulations on finishing, Chokomisfits! :goodjob:

If anyone from another (already completed) team does happen to be reading this, I've updated our team summary, back on Page 1 - right here
Thx. I was following today. :D Very nice summary.

I find the decisions to skip Oracle and not research CS shocking. I'll have to look at your discussion early on. Also, how did it take you 33t between Lib-Radio and MM?! Your radio date is quite competitive, especially given the first two things I mentioned.

Nice finish JH :goodjob:. Shame about the CTD's I know what its like except my whole computer packs up. Problem with my graphics card getting dusty and overheating just have to remember to clean out the case a bit more regularily.

So congrats on winning and finishing the game to all my fellow Chokomisfits. :goodjob: Had great fun playing and hope were all up for the next one.

Congrats on winning the game, and great work to all of you. :-)

I've been more of a lurker this game, with my laptop crashing, and a lot of summer holiday. But I'm ready for the next one.

Also learned a lot, many of the things I would never had thought of in my own games, so thanks for that :-)
