So it was said and resaid to us that a spearman would never be able to beat down a tank... Ok, although the spearman can still capture a city with a tank inside and get the tank to disappear, the issue seemed pretty well fixed.

Now in my last game, I was attacking my favourite last ennemy SIAM who had managed to fill in 3 policies branches already and was on his way to a cultural win.

Owning the rest of the map, I had a clear tech advance and quite a number of mech infantry and gunships. Siam had loads of leftover War Elephants camping in his territory next to riflemen and I didn't really worry - hence why I kept him for the last- melee elephant vs gunship ... why worry ?

Well I did lost 6 gunship to his war elephants overall. Even finding some full health gunship only able to attain a "minor victory" on some of them !

It is true that I wasn't really paying any more attention and was just rushing to finish a long and tedious domination victory after having cleaned a few bod - It is also true that I was taking cities too fast and hence was at -12 happ (so -33% str bonus). Siam probably had the Hijemi castle as well (since he wonderwhored this game)

But still !!!!! 3 half naked chaps wearing spears on the back of an elephant taking down 6 of my elite assault gunships ....

I wonder if there are some other funny bits like this that other players noticed ? Like an egyptian war chariot sinking a nuclear submarine ? Or anything that just appear wrong.

I also wonder if, with all positive bonus (policies, hijemi castle, Great general) a spearman could beat a tank (given all negative bonus, marsh, unhapp ?) -anyone tried ?

Siams war elephants are ridiculous. I lost a ton of infantry to them. Seems like they'd be an easy target for a machine gun.

same thing with :

- medieval ranged unit (Crossbowman/chukonu) vs destroyer : frigate can burn, but not a ship made of metal.
- cavalry/riflemen/infentry ... vs bomber : how the heck a cavalry can damage a military aircraft . The fisrt time I saw this " OMG !! horsemen are shooting in the air §§ "

Also my fight B-17 against frigate -> funny thing, cannons shooting into the air and hitting my bombers.

Guess I'll take it as human errors. (Some bombers forgot to refuel before taking off or sth. :goodjob:)

Siamese Elephants actually have a very powerful strength rating - 22. That's more powerful than a Musketeer, nearly as strong as a Rifleman. With a -33% happiness issue and with Himeji Castle and such, it's totally plausible for them to give a stiff fight to Helicopter Gunships.

Just think of your troops as being unhappy and demoralized, and his troops chucking improvised explosive cocktails in the air.

How about, in a game my wife was playing the other night, a Giant Death Robot embarking and being taken out by a barbarian trireme.

My personal favorite was losing 2 cavalry on the same turn, one full hp and one 8/10hp, to Rome's war chariots. Yes, my people were 'very unhappy' at the time... but still.

I also love the animation where my bomber flies over a city and that's launching rocks into the air at it... and it takes damage.

And finally I had a good laugh when a 1hp crossbowman killed my full health pikeman unit with a ranged attack. It was one little guy by himself on a hilltop, shooting over and over and every time one of my pikeman falls down- by about the 4th time I'm irritated, by the 10th I'm doubled over laughing.

Hah!

You have to play Japanese. The sight of one lone Samurai taking out every single man of a Swordsman unit is just epic.

yeah, air strikes should really work like bombardment. If you want to defend against them, you have to bring along anti-air (which the AI seems to love anyway).

Heh, well, a Giant Death Robot in a transport is just some huge can after all. ^^ The possibility of the transport being boarded and the GDR being kidnapped would have been much more fun, however.

Please someboby explains this to me :crazyeye: :

Reminds me of Civ I where you could hold off whole armies, fleets of bombers included, with one phalanx in a walled city on a hill.

Talk about a true patriot.. :)

Yeah, I find it odd that ranged can't fire over mountains but subs can fire through them... still a few more bugs to fix.

The truth is Siam elephants are all Dumbo's. They can fly, therefore they surprise gunships and disturb them with funny ear moves.
This game rocks as it adequately represents this undeservedly little-known tactics.

That's nothing, in one of my last Civ1 games ever, Russia nuked my city of Delhi - where I had 1 phalanx and a couple of mech inf... guess which unit survived? ;)

Bronze Shield > radiation, waves of scorching heat, etc, I guess!

Could it be possible you ran out of aluminium to supply your gunships? I know units that require strategic resources take an effectiveness hit if you run out.
