SGOTM 12 - Plastic Ducks

Yes, 10 turns is what I tested.

SP: ok to skip Stable. I thought it was questionable as well so we agree on that.

Improvements: resource>river corner farms>watermill>farm>windmill. Completely agree.

Moscow: Currently there is only 1 worker but 1 from SP can move in. I say run an Engineer because I'd like to get better chance at spawning a GE sometime. Yes I know with Steam Power we'll have a better chance but more can't hurt. Desert watermill > Engineer only once we have a saved GE ;)

SP: having that 1 farm will go a long way. More is probably not necessary as you say.

Pig city: this one's a bummer. There's not really anything else for them to do so might as well road the pig (that's what I'd been doing).

Mur new worker: 1st job is chop forest then start heading south SF+C, final destination is copper site

Lyons: yea, I made the same mistake earlier, had forgotten Lyons is on a hill.

I might start playing tonight but I'm not sure I'll finish tonight.

I played 2 turns so far, everything going according to plan.

We got another GG, I assume settle in Paris for eventual Rep bonus?

Will continue tomorrow.

Another option is to attach it to a non-promoted maceman and give it leadership and woodman III to make it another medical units. GG is good at cleaning battle of >99% odd.

Up to t178.

Gandhi just DoW'd on Mao.

Unfortunately, the only tech we can give him is Paper (DG stole CS and sold it to him). It would cost almost 3,000 gold to stop the war...

Mao has longbows now but I have no clue what kind of force Gandhi might have sent.

Only option I see is to move him quick to steal the cities we can and then gift a crap city to Mao to make sure he's not eliminated.

Note to staff: I played this set on my laptop.

T170
Gift Music to Churchill (+2, Cautious), changed a few city builds and moved some tiles.

T171
Music to Roosevelt for HBR+Map+gold
Whipped some spies.
Paris bombarded down to 0 defense.
DG attacked our stack IBT with a catapult which died.
Spoiler :

T172
Paris taken, no casualties on our side and get GG... buildings almost all lost :(
Spoiler :

Spot Churchill's stack... massive but lacks siege.
Spoiler :

Renegotiate resource deal with Churchill... much better.
Spoiler :

T173
DG steals Civil Service from us (damn.) and we start getting improvements pillaged (mostly cottages now).
I have to switch Moscow to a Monastery otherwise the excess OF will be lost.

T174
Moscow has too many hammers, in order not to lose hammers I switch to making some War Elephants and HAs.
Orleans bombarded to 0%.

T175
Orleans captured... little survives again but it's better than an aqueduct - we get 2 workers for our trouble. DG wouldn't part with Nationalism to save his life :p
Spoiler :

DG trades CS to Gandhi who researches Optics next.
Gems mine sabotaged.

T176
Last 2 universities whipped. I micro Moscow to achieve maximum OF.

T177
Stuff it Roose (he gets a GE... so many GE this game!).
Spoiler :

Oxford gets 196 hammers this turn.
One silk gets pillaged in Moscow, I divert 2 workers.

Demographics
Spoiler :

We should be ready to DoW Mao and start moving on Roose soon. The troops are gathering by Beijing.

Espionage situation: I hate it but our culture in Trojan city is decreasing at an alarming rate (down to 30-some %). Nationalism will cost us 2000+ EP at this rate. One of our spies was caught early on.

Confu: I had to switch to making troops to avoid losing OF... so it isn't much more spread. The galleys coming up from the islands can pick up Archer garrisons (we have quite a few now) and come back later for CM.
We probably should dedicate another city to producing CMs.

If you are still busy with GOTM and WOTM I can look at playing another 10 turns, this week appears to be not too clogged up.

Alrighty!

I'll try to put in as much time as I can to free your hands up, 40 turns could be possible :)

I hope you can keep this going.;)

I finish the cheese AP work in BOTM35 in a couple days. However the deity WOTM32 is really time consuming. Not only I have to put more energy on a said more difficult warlord deity, but also the interface of warlord is terrible compared with Buffy, I have to check every AI every turn.

Good job on the play. Are you very sure about the OF in Moscow?

OF is lost once it is higher than the city production... you get stuck at city prod-1.

10 turns I can definitely fit this week, possibly even get started tonight. 20 is more challenging to find enough time but I'll try.

Moscow (CMs, Aqueduct) 2 workers pre-improve watermill and workshops. Run an Engineer a few turn just for kicks.
SP (HAs, market for happiness when required)
Nov (whip workers, OF into market)
Ros (worker then ?UoS for failure gold?) starts using specialists as it's running out of useful tiles
Yaro (Market, Uni) ... grow as much as possible
Yek (Market, Happy buildings) ... grow as much as possible
Yak (Harbor, Market) ... grow as much as possible
Vlad (Market, Uni)
Smo (Archer, 1 worker, switch Moai when not taken by Kras, CMonast and CMs otherwise) ... needs more farms
Ore (Market, settler, Harbor, happy) ... grow and start running specialists. Could use a worker to SF. Settler is to gift to Mao to make his elimination harder.
Kras (keep whipping into Moai)
Rh (Forge, lib, uni)
Kha (Forge, lib, uni) ... this area needs 2~3 more workers. Will ship one from SP now and whip a few more
Bry (Forge, lib, uni)
Tv (Forge, lib, uni)
Tours (Forge, lib, uni) ... maybe a LH will be required here
Novos (Forge, lib, uni)
Mag (whip worker for island, forge, lib)
Xian (Forge, lib, uni) ... walls if Churchill attacks
Mur (Forge, settler, wb)
Nanjing (CH, Forge, lib, uni) ... walls if attacked
Irk (CH, Forge, lib, uni)
Chita (Forge, lib, uni)
Shanghai (FB, Forge)
Beijing (keep 2 and 1whipping catapults)
Samara (CH, Forge, lib) ... copper>spices>river farm>farms>windmills
Lyons (CH, Forge, lib)
Paris (gran, LH, CH, Forge)
Chely (gran, CH, Forge) ... try leaving coast for Paris
Tobo (gran, LH) workers iron>riverside farm>PH wine>windmills
Volo (whip gran, wb, LH, CH) get at least 1 spice up
Orleans (gran, CH, Forge)
new city: settler goes to hill next turn to explore then turn around, one worker goes to forest chop granary other NE R then spices

Improvements: resources>river corners farms>watermills>farms>windmills
Maps: buy maps from Gandhi (circumnavigation)

Military: we'll need a few catapults to deal with Churchill, especially if he keeps spamming troops. We'd need 1.8 times his power to deter him from war. We have 11 maces in place which is more than enough. At the very least, 3 catapults will be required to suicide on his SoD as he's starting to bring in XBows. We might expect a few WEs also... he has hooked up his Ivory.
I would actually consider DoW him before he starts building a ton of Trebuchets to kill his current SoD.

All level 3 catapults, all CR macemen move on to Mao, take his 2 southern cities and try to extort Feudalism.

One HA will take a peek at Seattle. If weakly defended (~4 troops), split stacks before attacking Roose. New York is a pretty good prize with the Hagia Sophia and Chitchen Itza (pain to bombard).

Research: PP 100%, then 0% on Liberalism until Nationalism can be stolen [this might take 10+ turns].

I put a lot of Uni in the builds but I'm thinking maybe Markets would be better as our stable slider point is still below 50% I think.

GP: save. Maybe a GM can be used for a cash bomb but that's about it.

Moscow (CMs, Aqueduct) 2 workers pre-improve watermill and workshops. Run an Engineer a few turn just for kicks.

Copper 1st. OF to Aqu. Religion spreading is better from close to far, from cities with religion to None.

SP (HAs, market for happiness when required)

Market as soon as possible, cats WEs, SP can cool down from whipping for a while.

Nov (whip workers, OF into market)

LH and whip market when ready.

Ros (worker then ?UoS for failure gold?) starts using specialists as it's running out of useful tiles

worker and then settler. Before rep, specialist does not worth.

Yaro (Market, Uni) ... grow as much as possible
Yek (Market, Happy buildings) ... grow as much as possible

Harbor?

Yak (Harbor, Market) ... grow as much as possible
Vlad (Market, Uni)
Smo (Archer, 1 worker, switch Moai when not taken by Kras, CMonast and CMs otherwise) ... needs more farms

Archer and infras. No CM from here. I'd rather build a CMonast around Rh and/or Tours after Forge so that CMs can be pumped from there and CMs from Moscow can go for island cities.

7 or 9 improved tiles (including 2F3C water tiles) are enough for this kind of cities. Since there are lots to be whipped. Don't see real short of workers in short time.

Bry (Forge, lib, uni)
Tv (Forge, lib, uni)
Tours (Forge, lib, uni) ... maybe a LH will be required here
Novos (Forge, lib, uni)
Mag (whip worker for island, forge, lib)
Xian (Forge, lib, uni) ... walls if Churchill attacks
Mur (Forge, settler, wb)
Nanjing (CH, Forge, lib, uni) ... walls if attacked
Irk (CH, Forge, lib, uni)
Chita (Forge, lib, uni)
Shanghai (FB, Forge)

The PH there should be mined and worked. Draw 2 workers on the silk here next turn.

Beijing (keep 2 and 1whipping catapults)
Samara (CH, Forge, lib) ... copper>spices>river farm>farms>windmills
Lyons (CH, Forge, lib)
Paris (gran, LH, CH, Forge)
Chely (gran, CH, Forge) ... try leaving coast for Paris
Tobo (gran, LH) workers iron>riverside farm>PH wine>windmills

I would actually consider DoW him before he starts building a ton of Trebuchets to kill his current SoD.

If too tough, I would not mind of using Xian as a trap city.

All level 3 catapults, all CR macemen move on to Mao, take his 2 southern cities and try to extort Feudalism.

That's ideal. However, I'm afraid Mao does not have enough units for us to kill. In that case, I'd like trade Feudalism in a couple of turns since we might need to research Guild and Bank and then RP ourselves with Gandhi going for Astro now.

Trade Feudalism and then to RP, those are all good economical techs so that mature cities has something to build.

I put a lot of Uni in the builds but I'm thinking maybe Markets would be better as our stable slider point is still below 50% I think.

Whip infra as soon as possible now since we will push on science for a while and then back to cash saving.

GP: save. Maybe a GM can be used for a cash bomb but that's about it.

Send the GM to Beijing.

That's my rough impression, might be off.

Moscow: yes copper first, forgot to say.
SP: alright, sounds good with the shrine anyway.
Nov: it really has few coastal tiles but it can take them over SP... good point.
Ros: what after the settler? UoS for failure gold is still the best I can come up with.
Yek: I think I did not mention it because it only has internal trade routes. Will switch if I see otherwise.
Smo: ok, no CM.
Kha area: Irk could use 2 workers by itself to improve the hills, that leaves the other cities workerless
Shanghai: fair enough. Stalling growth considerably in exchange for gpt... yea good.

Churchill: using a trap city would allow to promote down CR line rather than combat. At the moment, Churchill's stack is no trouble though, he doesn't have enough siege to pose a problem, we can just kill half his stack, whip walls, heal and then kill the rest I think. (I seem to recall him insisting to bombard down defenses before attacking in a test).

Feudalism: we don't really have anything to trade for Feudalism other than Compass... maybe with research overflow Roose will agree to trade it. RP sounds delicious... a few banks will be fantastic on the economy.

Infra timing: okay, faster is better.

GM to Beijing? Then what?

OMG wait a minute.
Look at Churchill stack screenshot.
He's out of war-mode!

hahaa!!!

Edit: don't know how I missed that earlier >.<

We do only have 6 land tiles shared... I guess that means it's a distant DoW so he failed the power test.

Great, now we can use 2 stacks for Roosevelt. On the other side, can Roosevelt bribe Churchill to the war?

We do only have 6 land tiles shared... I guess that means it's a distant DoW so he failed the power test.

That's another reason why I said we might not be Roosevelt's target, he should fail the power check long time ago.

Feudalism: we don't really have anything to trade for Feudalism other than Compass... maybe with research overflow Roosevelt will agree to trade it. RP sounds delicious... a few banks will be fantastic on the economy.

Paper + Compass, I would not mind that we get another wonder. Get as many archers as possible and Trade it as soon as possible! In that case, many city build need to be revised. Many cities can start Grocers and Banks soon.

GM to Beijing? Then what?

A galley from Beijing some time and sent it to Gandhi's land.

They are both Pleased to each other so yes. Easy solution is to gift techs to Churchill that Roose has over him (Philo right now).

Roosevelt is probably after Mao as well then. Should be interesting.

Paper+Compass it is. I hate to give Paper away but we have to move on to the better techs.
City builds:
We have 16 archers, 32 cities so far... I'm guessing 10 more archers should be enough as our Maces won't always have to wage war.
Build priority would then become:
Bank>Library>Harbor (if it adds commerce)>Market>Grocer>University>other happy buildings.

Probably whipping Lib 1st in most cities now as we are researching atm.

Paper does not matter since Gandhi is stuck in Astro, we are safe for Lib->AL now.

BTW, if we can't steal Nat in 5 turns, retreat 3 spies and send them plus another one 5 turns before stealing. We are losing culture bonus quickly, but we will gain the more EPP spent bonus instead. Anyway, lesson learned, we lost quite some EPPs. We will do much better on Mao!:D

Okay so change builds mostly everywhere... except places with granary/LH.

Lib (whip next turn) > Archer/current build > Bank>Harbor>Market>Grocer>University>...

That will add a few hundred beakers in this turnset.

Looks like we are ready to DOW right away, let's do it next turn. However we need to trade Feudalism before DOW, so forget about archers, just finish any archer this turn, trade with Roosevelt and DOW Mao next turn. Can let SP produces an archer(too many OF?) and several chariots next.

Tech wise, I'm more clear that we want those economical techs sooner than later. PP->trade Feudalism->Guild->Bank->RP->Economy->Cons(We need to try our best to capture Boston for MoM and twist Cons). I feel urgent to launch our 1st GA for the rep + FM + religion.

Therefore, military wise, I'd like to hit Roosevelt as soon as possible and go through Guangzhou->New york -> Washington->Boston and let the stack from Xian to deal with other cities.

I will revise the plan later tonight. I'll look carefully at military especially.

I don't have the time to update the test game really, but it does not matter so much at this point, it's just "rounding errors". The essence of our strategy is already in motion, all we really need is a GE pronto.

Moscow (CMs, Aqueduct but Grocer preferably, BANK, more CMs), copper, 2 workers pre-improve watermill and workshops. Run an Engineer a few turn just for kicks.
SP (archer, market, chariots until Guilds, cats+WEs via whip)
Nov (LH, Market, Bank, Grocer)

Yek (Market, Harbor, Bank, Grocer, Happy buildings)
Yak (Harbor, Market, Bank, Grocer, Happy buildings)
Vlad (Market, worker, grocer/bank(1st preferably), Uni) ... worker to start windmills. Will whip another worker from Mag
Smo (whip Archer, lib, OF in Moai, Market/worker, Bank, grocer, Uni) ... needs more farms. LH probably not required for a while but might add it in if workers fall behind.
Ore (Market, worker, Harbor, Bank, grocer, happy)

Paris (gran, LH, lib, CH, Forge), whip gran in 3 turns to get max hammers for food
Chely (gran, lib, CH, Forge) ... try leaving coast for Paris
Tobo (gran, LH, lib, CH, Forge) workers iron>riverside farm>PH wine>windmills
Volo (whip gran, wb, LH, CH or lib depending on slider) get at least 1 spice up

new city: settler goes to hill next turn to explore then turn around, one worker goes to forest chop granary other NE R then spices

Improvements: resources>river corners farms>watermills>farms>windmills

Food>lib>CH>Forge>Bank>Market>Grocer>Uni>Happy when needed

Other: next turn trade Paper+Compass to Roose for Feudalism
Sell Philo to Church before DoW Roose. Will have to sell Paper as well.
After PP>Guilds>Banking>RP>0% Constitution (try to squeeze it out of Roose)>Economics

t171 DoW Mao. Honestly, I don't care much about Chengdu right now, send 2~3 maces to try and steal if from Gandhi. 1 mace goes on hill to take a look at Seattle (scouting)

ASAP, DoW Roose (sell techs to Churchill to avoid bribe) with 2 stacks.
First is for Seattle (as small as possible).
Second goes to New York directly, as large as possible and keeps heading to Washington and then Boston.
The ex-Churchill troops will go to Philadelphia and to reinforce the main stack.

1~3 catapults will need to be suicided per city to keep high odds for our Macemen.

In my estimation, it will take about 18~20 turns (it's about 12 tiles) to reach Boston for MoM. Research would take about 12~13 turns at 100% to reach Constitution+Economics.
After my set, we should consider whether 4 turns of GA is worth the lost turns of FM+Rep+OR+religion... almost certain not however.

GP: saved, GM sent to Beijing for TM to Gandhi.

That's about it.

Moscow (CMs, Aqueduct but Grocer preferably, BANK, more CMs), copper, 2 workers pre-improve watermill and workshops. Run an Engineer a few turn just for kicks.

Grocer and bank as OF folder and break time. CMs whenever possible. Withdraw the 3 spies and send them plus another spy from Moscow in 2 or 3 turns later.

SP (archer, market, chariots until Guilds, cats+WEs via whip)

archer, 2 chariots, market and whip if necessary and then Bank and Grocer, no whip on units anymore, SP will carry those whipping angers till the end of the game. Are you too cruel?

Nov (LH, Market, Bank, Grocer)
Ros (archer, worker, settler, Bank, grocer)

Let it take the Deer from Nov, which can take the Deer from Yaro.

Yaro (Market, possibly harbor (worth 4C in some turns when peace bonus with Churchill maxes out), Bank, Grocer, Uni)
Yek (Market, Harbor, Bank, Grocer, Happy buildings)
Yak (Harbor, Market, Bank, Grocer, Happy buildings)
Vlad (Market, worker, grocer/bank(1st preferably), Uni) ... worker to start windmills. Will whip another worker from Mag
Smo (whip Archer, lib, OF in Moai, Market/worker, Bank, grocer, Uni) ... needs more farms. LH probably not required for a while but might add it in if workers fall behind.
Ore (Market, worker, Harbor, Bank, grocer, happy)
Kras (keep whipping into Moai)
Rh (lib, Forge, bank, grocer, uni)

Forge, CMonastery, CMs

Kha (lib, Forge, bank, grocer, uni) ... still like 1~2 more workers
Bry (lib, Forge, bank, grocer, uni)
Tv (lib, Forge, bank, grocer, uni)
Tours (lib, Forge, LH if needed, bank, grocer, uni)

Can make it another CM pumper.

Novos (lib, Forge, market/bank, grocer, uni)
Mag (whip worker for island, lib, forge, another worker, bank, market, grocer)

Forget about lib in this city if lib can't be whipped in 2 turns.

Xian (lib, Forge, bank/market, grocer ,uni) ... walls if Churchill attacks
Mur (lib, Forge, settler, wb, bank)
Nanjing (CH, lib, Forge, bank, market, grocer, uni) ... walls if attacked

"CH, lib" ?

Irk (lib, CH, Forge, bank, market, grocer, uni)
Chita (OF in Forge then whip lib, Forge, bank, market, grocer, uni)
Shanghai (FB, lib, Forge) ... 2 workers mine PH next turn from Beijing

Forge before lib

Beijing (lib, keep 2 and 1 whipping catapults)

No lib, focus on cats, work on hill tile to avoid 1 pop whip.

Samara (CH, lib, Forge) ... copper>spices>river farm>farms>windmills
Lyons (lib, CH, Forge, bank, market, grocer)
Paris (gran, LH, lib, CH, Forge), whip gran in 3 turns to get max hammers for food
Chely (gran, lib, CH, Forge) ... try leaving coast for Paris
Tobo (gran, LH, lib, CH, Forge) workers iron>riverside farm>PH wine>windmills
Volo (whip gran, wb, LH, CH or lib depending on slider) get at least 1 spice up
Orleans (gran, lib, CH, Forge) whip forge in 2 turns

All above cities lib after forge since we will stop research in less than 10 turns.

new city: settler goes to hill next turn to explore then turn around, one worker goes to forest chop granary other NE R then spices

Other: next turn trade Paper+Compass to Roose for Feudalism
Sell Philo to Church before DoW Roose. Will have to sell Paper as well.
After PP>Guilds>Banking>RP>0% Constitution (try to squeeze it out of Roose)>Economics

I guess either Phi or paper alone is not enough to bribe Churchill to DOW the superpowerful us. So gift Churchill 1 tech should be enough and that will also bring him back to cautious.

t171 DoW Mao. Honestly, I don't care much about Chengdu right now, send 2~3 maces to try and steal if from Gandhi. 1 mace goes on hill to take a look at Seattle (scouting)

Send the current units in Beijing to hill this turn and go through Cow tile, move this stack further west if Guangzhou needs more units to be taken. Ignore other cities totally, let's focus on.

The pioneer stack can ignore Washington and go directly for Boston, let the reinforcement take Washington.

For sure the 4 turns of GA is huge. The biggest advantage of civic is FM, which will bring ~60 C per turn. Rep is excellent when cities are big enough to run specialists. We can save citizens to wait for OR bonus.

GP: saved, GM sent to Beijing for TM to Gandhi.

That's about it.
