Kingdom of Portugal.
Color: Green
Claims: The four Portugeese provinces, the three territories in Western Sahara, and three territories on the coast of North Brazil (I'll try to get a map later, but if I can't, please do the best you can.)
Development Level: First World on the mainland, leaning first world in Brazil, third world in Africa.
Fiscal Policy: On the mainland, planned Capitalism. Some welfare, but not much. On the colonies, the colonial leaders choose for themselves.
Government System: Portugal is ruled by the King. He is popular, and does have some power, but most of the power goes to Parliament, which has three houses, the House of Nobles, the House of Elders, and the House of the People. The House of Nobles mostly has ceremonial power, they can't vote on Economic bills. The House of Elders are elected by each district's legislature, and the House of the People is elected by Proportional Representation. A bill must either pass in two houses and get the King's approval (Which he usually gives, he doesn't try to rule politics very often), or be approved by all houses, except the economy and war, which neither the King nor the House of Nobles has any say in.
Social Policy: On the mainland, moderate. Abortion is illegal, and the death penalty is in use for murder, though the judge can choose not to use it. Gay marriages are not allowed on the mainland, but Civil Partnerships are given instead with similar benefits (Colonies decide for themselves.) Marijuanna use is legal, harder drugs are banned but we rehabilitate their users rather than make them rot in a cell. Prison is only used for felonies or violent crimes.
Political Rights: The following have voting rights: The top 33% of taxpayer's, anyone owning at least a certain amount of private property (Not much, usually just a house is enough, though a lot of people rent and don't own houses), and anyone with military service. Women can only vote if they fulfill these criteria (So most can't.)
Foreign Policy: Interventionist, but not terribly so. We only get involved if the World Community asks us to or if not doing so seriously threatens our interest. Diplomacy first, war in last resort.
Armed Forces: We have about 100,000 soldiers active and about 100,000 more in the reserves. However, in a total war situation like WWII, we could draft a million soldiers. Draft is not currently in service (Though joining gives voting rights and is therefore encouraged), but can be used at any time deemed needed.
Navy: Very large. We need a large navy to protect our colonies and ensure they stay in our control.
Air Force: Well above average, though not the best in the world.
Religion: The official religion is Protestant Christianity, but there is total freedom of religion.
History: Portuguese sovereignty was returned after the IUN collapsed. Their people wanted the strong rule of a king and didn't care about Democratic rights, but the leadership feared the return to total monarchy, so they set up a government with limited representation to avoid the problems of both a Monarchy and a Democracy.
