SGOTM 12 - Plastic Ducks

I actually don't like to see Churchill having mount units, the major reason is that we are going to send workers to SF at the same time we march our forces and I don't want to draw extra forces behind to protect them. Will play tonight.

Noticed that OSS got a power explosion in 3 turns, guess the reason. My guess is because of Lib->Steel and then the upgrading of trebs.

Fueled by a GM mission from Economics ;)

But yea, mass troop upgrade is the only way unless they whipped a ton of cities... which is very unlikely.

Will be interesting to see if they are able to keep up with us when we turned on the slider 3 turns later.

EDIT: also looks like they got a culture boost in those 3 turns.

Game Report

Played as planned, learn SC in 1615AD and start RI everywhere, our cash income is horrible even in 100% gold slider. Sushi spreading did not go very well, failed 2 spreading.

Spoiler :

A GE was born from Tv last with ~15% odd, so never trust the probability of GP type since probability only makes sense for a set of large number.:p I checked the Moscow, it has 0% odd of produce a GE (and that's 100% trustable:D) if the GP from Chi next turn is also a GE. At least the GE could contribute over 2K beakers now, better than a GS bulbing Phi. Churchill is chasing Demo, which is the only positive effect from Gandhi's going for Demo.

Spoiler :

And our glorious and poor WS and HE city and GP farm as well,:king: is working merely 6 tiles and contributing all other shared tile to neighbor cities so that they can produce RI faster.

Spoiler :

The issues for the next set

1. Civic again
2. War route and more detailed plan
3. infrastructures in cities

Our culture graph is 100%

Not too worried about our gold income, we dish out ~4300 H/turn in all our cities put together. That puts our research at around 9,000 bpt after RIs are in... 10,000 isn't so far off.

Regarding civics:

-stick to Caste imo
-Pacifism or FR
Pacifism: is only worth it if we can gain a GP earlier which would mean an extra bulb to gain 1t of research. Otherwise FR is worth about 300 beakers/turn... equals that extra GP within 15 turns.
However FR costs more gpt so I dunno... it's worth a bit more happiness in a few cities.

war route: land 1S of uranium, can attack 3 cities within next 2 turns.

I would probably suggest doing the second drop further south, it will take a while to get to Agra/Calcutta with 2 tiles/turn.
We have 3 cities in range of northern Indian cities so as soon as 12 Bombers are ready... DoW.
Would also need to sink Gandhi's fleet as it's likely full of units.

Infra: Every science building is justifiable.

I'm not too sure about health buildings. Are we likely to trigger global warming? If yes, then we need to build them or get another headache clearing up more fallout.

Happy buildings: the cheap ones are worth it once needed as each citizen gives 9~12 output, let's say 10. Temple pays in 8 turns for example.

Thoughts?

That's the cost and gain from corporation and we know that's a gain finally.:D

Regarding civics:

Took a look at the improvements, we have 86 WS now, so switching to slavery will cost us ~160 *5 = 800 hammers. Slavery will save us at least 1 turn from RIs in ~20 cities, which is ~30B * 25 = 750 Beakers. Cities building Factories will get more from earlier hammer multipliers. They are pretty close so we need to think it over.

FR will be better when we at 100% research slider, so yes to FR 1 or 2 turns later.

I have a very clear plan for the war with Gandhi with a careful look at the map last night.:D

In the 1st turn of the war.

4 bombers in Phi to bombard Pat, another 4 in the Fort 2S of phil to bombard Bombay. 8 new bombers are ready to enter Pat and Bombay.
2 galleons plus 2 transporters of 13 cossacks and 1 medic GG to take Pat this turn and then march to Delhi.
3 galleons of 2 GG and macemans and cossacks take Bombay

The stack from Pat will take Delhi (2nd turn) -> Vij (3rd or 4th turn)
The eastern stack will do amphibious attacks mainly through Agra->Cal (1 stack will land here to take Var)->Lah
I think we can also take Mandras since the cash rooted should pay for the cost of an extra settler.

Infra: Every science building is justifiable.

I'm not too sure about health buildings. Are we likely to trigger global warming? If yes, then we need to build them or get another headache clearing up more fallout.

No, global warming only turn tiles to desert. Harbor is for sure necessary since it also increase the commerce. Grocer will add 4F, which is about 2 extra citizen and it also increase the yield from merchants, I guess it's fine. Supermarket add 5F, I think it's definitely worthy for the core cities -- Ros and 4 island cities (Kra, Sam, Yek and Mur probably) for trade route income. I'm not very clear about other cities since a lot of them need to build wealth to support 100% research slider, I guess not worthy.

Happy buildings: the cheap ones are worth it once needed as each citizen gives 9~12 output, let's say 10. Temple pays in 8 turns for example.

You might notice that a number cities already have CT or in the queue, However I have to stop building temporarily due to the short of cash. Considering that Gandhi will switch to Eman next, happiness is going to be a serious issue for our big city. For 1 AI adopting Eman, how many unhappiness will add to the city? 10% of the size? Therefore, yes, Happiness buildings are necessary, CT>Theater>Colosseum.

Thoughts?

Comments.

EDIT: also looks like they got a culture boost in those 3 turns.

The only way for such a culture boost is wonders and the only wonder could be built atm is Taj. However that seems not enough, then the biggest probability is they captured SH from either DG, Mao, or Roosevelt. If from DG, I'd say they are out of competitions already.:D If from Roosevelt, then they are pretty competitive.

Slavery vs Caste
There are other costs to consider: loss of research from fewer scientist/merchant slots, loss of commerce from whipped populations.

Slavery
Ok, we gain about 20 turns of RI overall. ~600 beakers
4 cities will gain 52H from factories, some more with Coal Plants, say 100H more maybe ~150H
Those cities in turn get faster Obs + RI ... maybe ~120 beakers
Total ~ 870

Caste
86 workshops for 5 turns = (86*5)*2 (100% prod) - 5 (one workshop in a city that doesn't have Fact+CP) = 855 hammers
Moscow loses 1 scientist -> -10b +6 gold = ~4
SP loses 4 Merchants -> -36g + 12H+5b ~ 19
Chita has to change 5 Merchants to lesser outputs ~ 5
+yield of unwhipped citizens ~20+ (easily 50+)

~900+

The outputs are very very similar. However, Caste could allow one extra bulb maybe? If yes, then definitely skip Slavery. I would slightly give the advantage to Caste but I could be wrong.

Stick with current civics for a few more turns and then switch to FR it seems.

Gandhi plan: very good. Varanasi will be faster to attack with a galleon as well (can unload on east side on PH and get there the next turn).

Madras: when/where do you plan the city gift? Do we do a 2-part war?

It's a shame he has so few workers, we'll need to move a bunch of ours over there to scrub that crap.

Health buildings: true that they give more food, however how soon will that food turn into extra citizens? For the small cities with Sushi, they are getting 1 pop/turn until they hit size 20+ (they will have a large overflow of food over the bin) despite unhealth. If we claim 1 pop = 10 b/H/whatever, then 150H must mean 15 additional pop turns. If you are confident a city will gain 15 additional pop turns from 4/5 food (similarly for other health buildings), then I agree.
Hospitals might be hard to justify though: 200H for 3 health.
Harbors are good for sure.
There should be 20~25 turns of research left, I'm not too confident we can pull out 15 extra pop turns from even a Supermarket. (would need to really check every city).

My guess is that it doesn't matter actually, I doubt very much we can gain 1 turn on research/production from building those.

Emancipation: dunno actually, I'll check in test game. Will edit in results.
EDIT: it's over 10%. City size 25 will get 3 unhappy, 12 gets 2

Broadway+Rock'n'Roll seem justified... less than 20H per city for 1 happy.

Those cities in turn get faster Obs + RI ... maybe ~120 beakers
Total ~ 870

The reason why I said 25*30 = 750 B is because I have considered other negative issues such as lose of citizens and cities produce factories. If you only count the cities currently building RI, then more precisely that's ~22 turns of earlier RI (some cities gaining more than 1 turns). Most of them are big cities so the average commerce is ~50C * 25% = 12.5B plus 24B from RI = ~36B * 22 = ~800 beakers. Therefore the total gain is 1070 beakers.

Caste
86 workshops for 5 turns = (86*5)*2 (100% prod) - 5 (one workshop in a city that doesn't have Fact+CP) = 855 hammers
Moscow loses 1 scientist -> -10b +6 gold = ~4
SP loses 4 Merchants -> -36g + 12H+5b ~ 19

SP will be producing units so the hammer also get the multiplier from HE, so the 3 merchants become 3 engineers = 3*2H*300% = 18H vs 27 g and another 1 will work on tile since Smo is going to finish RI and no need to occupy the tile. So the loss is <=9 if SP works on more tiles:lol:

Chita has to change 5 Merchants to lesser outputs ~ 5

We will switch to slavery next turn and Chita will produce the GP and won't act as a GP farm, so no loss.

+yield of unwhipped citizens ~20+ (easily 50+)

~900+

The outputs are very very similar. However, Caste could allow one extra bulb maybe? If yes, then definitely skip Slavery. I would slightly give the advantage to Caste but I could be wrong.

So Slavery will give more regarding yield, however, the major downside is that it introduces 1 extra unhappiness on those cities, that's the major reason why I am still hesitating.

The ice area near France? We probably could end the war with Gandhi in ~6 turns and that leaves enough time to move those units toward English and then start the war with Churchill. We can then hit Churchill from both west and north.

It's a shame he has so few workers, we'll need to move a bunch of ours over there to scrub that crap.

As I mentioned, harbor for sure, Grocer is fine generally (this is the tricky part since I will swap citizens working water tiles now and soon to merchants or scientists before it hit the happiness cap, so the extra 4F will really speed up the growth. also remember that Grocer gives 0.75g for every merchant.). supermarket for 5 cities listed plus Moscow already having it. I did not mention Aqu and Hospital, right.;)

It's probably a roundup calculation.

Broadway+Rock'n'Roll seem justified... less than 20H per city for 1 happy.

Plus ET for sure.

One more issue -- Do we want to use a tech to get 440g from Gandhi and which tech? also let him make peace with Mao so that he won't produce more unit?

So 2-part war with Gandhi.
This is the same reason I had suggested grabbing Roosevelt's last city though. It has pretty good food.

Slavery: I think we can justify it then. After the war, we can bribe Gandhi out of Emancipation and hope he doesn't switch back. Same for Churchill.

ET: for certain! Moreover it gets 100% bonus from Iron so build it a few times to get a better cash dump.

Cash: absolutely, every 1g we get equals more science output. Any economic tech will be fine to give him. Economics/Liberalism.
Similarly gift to Churchill and Stalin, it's not like it will help them soon ;)

EDIT: it seems Stalin is preparing war against someone

EDIT2: in 2~3 turns (or right away) change EP to Stalin so we get his vision.

Unless we decide to gift a city to Gandhi to steal Democracy and build SoL? (probably not worth it though unless we use it for failure gold...)

Gandhi, I hope so, Churchill, it does not matter then since we should launch then.

American should be his target.

Fine.

Unless we decide to gift a city to Gandhi to steal Democracy and build SoL? (probably not worth it though unless we use it for failure gold...)

Don't have the time to do so.

The last issue -- Since we will use slavery, Hangzhou will have CH available in a couple turns. Do we want Sushi and Mine in it?

Mining Exec:
I think it's worth it. Say 175 cost total (100H+~75 gold).
Adds 20H+/turn so it pays off in 9 turns.

We can consider spreading it to captured cities from Gandhi within the next ~10 turns.

Sushi: (wall of text)
Spoiler :
It's going to be worth 1 pop/turn until about the end of the game so maybe ~15 pop.
If we don't use Sushi, the city will end up at size 8 in 15 turns, around 10 (big max) for 20 turns.
That means with Sushi it gets about ~120 pop turns in 15 turns (assume growth of 1/turn), ~200 in 20 turns.
Without Sushi, ~90 pop points for 15 turns, max ~140 for 20 turns.

30 extra pop for 15 turns, 60 extra for 20 turns.

Seeing the gpt ~22 minus with HQ gold multipliers, total cost is
15 turns: (base)+22*15 = 505 divided by 30 extra pops = yield of 16.8 per citizen
20 turns: (base)+22*20 = 615 divided by 60 extra pops = yield of 10.25 per citizen

Seeing as the city has very little improvements though, average output per extra citizen will be below the 10 mark...

No Sushi.

Further reflection on this leads me to think we're done with spreading Sushi.

@Stalin
I'm surprised he's considering war despite not having Astronomy...

Plan for the next 6 turns -- the End of 3rd GA -- the time available for next civic change

War preparation plan

War with Gandhi 1st, then after the galleons are free, send 2 galleons of cossacks to take SF.

Will add 4 more bombers and they are needed for the war with Stalin anyway and 2 transporters for more efficient war with Gandhi.

War route

In the 1st turn of the war.

4 bombers in Phi to bombard Pat, another 4 in the Fort 2S of phil to bombard Bombay. 8 new bombers are ready to enter Pat and Bombay.
2 galleons plus 2 transporters of 13 cossacks and 1 medic GG to take Pat this turn and then march to Delhi.
3 galleons of 2 GG and macemans and cossacks take Bombay

Diplomacy

Economics to Gandhi for his cash and peace with Mao. Demand Churchill's cash. Demand the Trojan city back from Stalin and gift it to Roosevelt.

Civic

Switch to Slavery and FR next turn

Tech

2 turns of 0% on Combustion and then 100% to learn Combustion, Radio and Flight in 3 turns.

City build

As we agreed on the happiness and health buildings, also will swap most citizens working on water tiles in the mainland cities to specialists. The order is
1. When building wealth and we are still in short of cash to support full research slider, if the city has both Market and Grocer, then Merchant > Scientist
2. Other wise, Priest > Engineer > others
3. When it's possible to complete a building 1 turn earlier without whipping, will hire citizens. This applies for many cities in the 1st and 2nd turn. For example, Vla can hire 3 Eng and 7 citizens to complete RI in 2 turns instead of 3 turns.

IBT changes

Diplomacy as above, and mainly specialist adjustment in a number of cities.

I like your diplomacy options :D

No complaints about plan, sounds solid. (minor typo at Civics should be FR, unimportant really)

Edit: you can upgrade the GG Maces, esp. the super CR one.

Hangzhou only has 4 food plus (when working on the gold) and without granary atm, will it grow from size 2 (2 pop whip of CH) to 8 or 10 in ~20 turns? I think it will probably grow to size 6 without Sushi.

Also, I forgot that will play 6 turns, so what tech to research in turn 6?;) Ind to find Aluminum or Genetics to get the 3 health?

Hangzhou will get a granary in 3 turns so it will lose some food but that's really minor.
It will stop growth around size 7 in 20 turns with the gold being worked.

I overestimated Sushi numbers though, as we will likely want to switch citizens to specialist slots with Sushi.

Let's ramp the number up to 90 extra pop turns instead of 60. (theoretical max is about 100, but that means working a lot of coast tiles = 3 yield per citizen = bad).

615/90 = 6.8
It could bareeeeeely work but that's if we spread really soon (not long until we finish research).
In reality, we need at least 3 turns to spread it instead so the numbers go closer to the 15 turns estimate. (with 60 extra pop turns, it still requires over 9 yield per citizen... not good).

It's borderline, I do not think it would put us ahead in anything (except overall score :p) or behind to spread or not.

Therefore I'd spend the hammers on something else.

All right, skip Sushi then. Check last post for tech choice.:)

BTW, How many Sushi did the T team spread in the last 9 turns?

Techs are okay. Not much choice really.
I think next up are

Industrialism (Aluminium!)
Rocketry (get the damned thing built)
Genetics (health)
plastic>Composites (Casings)
Satellites (vision)
Computers>Fiber Optics
Fission>Fusion

BTW, I should be free in about 4~6 days to pick up the save.
