Secretary of State Robboo has asked me to post a poll about this matter. This poll should be recognized as an official referendum, and the decision is binding.

Poll Question: Should we trade our extra Wheat for Russia's extra Wine?

Options:
  • Yes, execute the trade at the next available opportunity
  • No, do not make this trade
  • Abstain

Discussion can be found here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=171305

Please note that this poll will close in 3 days from this posting.

YES! We need everything we can get at the moment.

This will help keep Russia from trading with Germany. Even if we decide to attack Russia we dont want them to be friends with Germany. This will help our economy by allowing our cities to grow by another population point before unhappines sets in.

we have 2 wheat, and you can only get one healthbonus so trading away our second wheat doesn't matter at all

I think that there sounldn't be a poll about this... There are offices which decides about those things.
I ofcourse vote YES.

This poll has closed and the results are validated.

Once again I have to question the validity of this poll. In looking through the powers and duties of the SoS I don't see that trading resources falls under the authority of the SoS which means the SoS cannot hold a referendum on this topic. I would also question the legality of referendum by proxy.

EDIT: In looking at the discussion thread I wonder why this was even polled. Anyone who cared enough about the subject to post in the dicussion thread thought it was a good idea. Then the vote here goes 15-0. This poll was not even needed.

IIB. The Powers and Duties of the Secretary of State
1. The Secretary of State shall have control of the Foreign policy of our nation with the exception in the Declaration of War/Peace/Alliance and the trade of cities.
A. The Secretary of State needs the permission of the Citizens Assembly: War/Peace/Alliance or the giving away of one of our Nation's cities.
B. The Secretary of State has the power to accept a city.
It's my interpretation that Foreign policy includes trades to other Civs (including techs, resources, etc). That's how it's been played for the last 5 months. Without trades, I'm not sure if the Secretary of State would really have any duties at all.

Sure we didn't need to poll this, but it's not a bad idea to cover all the bases. Where does it say that a poll must be necessary to be valid? It doesn't hurt to get a little extra citizen input, even if it isn't needed.

Using your logic, we could just forego any polls at all and decide everything at the discussion level. Better yet, we could just forego discussion and decide everything by mandate. It's slippery-slope.
