WorthPlaying has published an article on the new Colonization, listing various features, gameplay changes, and a few preliminary screenshots. The screenshots, accessible via the thumbnails below and uploaded to the gallery, highlight the improved graphics and focus on exploration and colonization, with buildings such as Distilleries, Cloth Factories, and Provincal Capitols.

An article from Gamasutra reveals that the design team at Firaxis behind Beyond the Sword, the latest Civ4 expansion pack, is spearheading this game's development. The team was led by Alex Mantzaris and Jon Shafer.

Nice. Should be worth a look.

It says it's the same core team as BTS. Does that mean Blake is doing the AI for this?

I knew they would ;)

and I really like those high resolution textures for their stuff.

Great, great, great !!! :goodjob:

I wait for it since a sooooo long time. :D

Sounds nifty, though I'm gonna boycot if they leave out Monte, et al.

I liked the original Colonization a lot, but doesn't this strike anyone as having as much stuff as a scenario in BTS? I'm not sure I would pay full price for this game from what I can see.

Finally! YES YES YES! I've been playing col for over a decade now and I'm so pleased that I will have competition with Civ 4 for my time.

Almost time to "promote" the Colonization forum up from it's "Other Games" status...? I can't wait to see the new game!

It sounds cool, but I'm kind of concerned about the whole "stand alone" aspect of it. If there are new diplomacy features, new leaders, new gameplay aspects at all, I really want them to transfer over to the Epic Game version and not some single-scenario addition. Is there some way that it can play alone or, if you have BTS installed, act as an expansion with Colonization as a mod/scenario? That would be ideal in my mind.

I've created a sub-category under Civ4 in the gallery for it. :)

Also uploaded higher resolution version of those 3 screenshots...

i hope they make it so u can win by killing off all the other colonies like freecol does, I dont remeber that victory condition in the 3 floppy version my brother bought 14 years ago for dos.

IM sure that will happen. Isn't this like a new concept. They are Making a new game based on an old game that uses an old games core but with new additions.
Why would they use the civ4 core and not include Civ4? Those that havn't bought civ4 will get 2games in one. Well Make that 3 games if you count Fall from Heaven. That game is more differnet then this it sounds :)

From that one screenshot, it looks like you'll be able to pack cities a lot closer together in Civ4 Colonization than in Civ4 proper.
