Spoiler The Twelve Steps to Break Your Addiction :
The Twelve Steps to Break Your Addiction

1. We admit we are powerless over Civilization - that our lives have become unmanageable.
2. We believe that a power greater than Sid Meier could restore us to sanity.
3. We turn our will and our lives over to this greater power.
4. We make a searching and fearless moral inventory of our turn-based gaming philosophy
5. We admit to one and all the exact nature of our Civilization addiction.
6. We ask mercy upon Sid Meier to release us from our addictive tether and defects of character.
7. We humbly submit to eliminating our shortcomings.
8. We make a list of all persons we have harmed (not including in-game societies such as the Greeks, Romans or Mongol hordes) and make amends.
9. We make direct amends to such people, except when to do so would cause further harm.
10. We continue to take personal inventory and when we feel the urge to take a few Civ turns, we promptly admit it.
11. We seek to improve our conscious selves, and to reject Sid Meier's siren song.
12. We practice these steps in our daily lives and bring our message of hope and redemption to other Civilization addicts.

Thanks to taillesskangaru for posting about it.

not nice.

Isn't this like Budweiser putting out a commercial making fun of alcoholics? This is an absolute travesty, how is anyone with a problem with video games supposed to work up the nerve to get help when the programmers are poking fun at how they addict us?

Am I totally off base here? Should I find this funny? Theres people out there who's addiction is so bad that there kids are dying from their neglect and here they are making fun of them.

Congratulations Firaxis, this is a really classy way to promote your product!

It's satire. Saw this a few years ago when civ 4 came out. Could see no posible way this could be officially sponsored by take 2, sid, ad nauseum. It's just merely fan sponsored idle.

Cheers!

I know and I cheered it on then too but it just feels wrong now. I just think with all the talk about video game addiction in the news, maybe they should back off a bit? It is becoming a serious issue in a lot of places (just look at your cousin who plays way too much WoW... exactly)

I'm as much as a civ nut as anyone so maybe I'm the wrong one to say it tho :)

You can't really be addicted to a video game.

There's no such thing as a problem with video games. They are just idiots with a preexisting medical condition most commonly known as "Too Moronic To Live Syndrome".

Edna was awesome

Game addiction is probably real, as it's been scientifically proven that some people are more susceptible to addiction of any addictive substance be they externally generated (nicotine, heroine, etc) or internally through behavioral acts (endorphins, adrenallin, etc).

Censoring humor however is not the rememdy. And this is some funny shiat. Rob and Edna are the funniest.
