Okay, I can't think of a single use for this unit in-game... but come On- a dalek! Someone with graphical skill must want to see one as much as I do! Please..?

Oh come on, you don't know what a dalek is? I have a hard time believing somebody doesn't know what a dalek is. Where have you been for the past millenium, inside a snapenpauce can?? I mean, really, its a dalek we're talking about here..

To tell the truth I don't have any real clue but is it something like a oldfashioned robot? (the look a little bit like towers)

I was just thinking about this today - except having it as a barb unit. I'm sure someone could come up with something, if one isn't already out there.

Well, since i've never heard of a dalek, a cyberman, a tom baker, or a snapenpauce can, (and no one seems willing to explain and/or post pictures)i can only conclude that this was just a joke request, and it was a waste of my time to even read this thread.

They are from the British tv show Doctor Who. The longest running sci-fi series ever.

The Dalek and Cybermen are evil aliens out to exterminate, and Tom Baker is one of the 9 actors to play the title character, the Doctor, on television.

This is what a Dalek looks like: Dalek

I'm not quite sure what a snapenpauce can is however. Must be some crazy British thing. ;)

I'm kind of surprised you've never atleast heard of Daleks, as they have been a part of pop culture for years. It's like not knowing who Darth Vader is or what Klingons are.

I cannot believe that there are people walking around who don't know what Daleks are... Like Dual says, that's like not knowing who Darth Vader is. You don't have to have seen Star Wars to recognise him, I'd have thought!

I was thinking that a Dr Who mod might be fun, but (a) there aren't near enough the units necessary and (b) it's not something that would really lend itself to Civ, alas...

I've never heard of daleks either, nor have I ever seen a picture of it (until now). And now that I've seen the pic, I understand why I haven't heard of those

Oh come on, how can you compare the recognizeability of Darth Vader to these daleks. :p

Aaglo, Daleks are probably the most instantly recognisable science fiction things in existence - at least in Britain - *everyone* knows what a Dalek is and what their catchphrase is. When I was young I was pretty hazy about Darth Vader and knew nothing of Star Wars, but I damned well knew a Dalek when I saw one!

It's very surprising to find that they're not well known outside Britain. Just one of those things, evidently.

Dalek? Never heard of 'em either.

What's their catchphrase BTW?

Well, I think that the doctor who & daleks never really left brittain then - atleast they didn't reach finland. Might be pretty much the same, as I would start talking about mämmi - you propably wouldn't have a clue what is it :p (ok, it's a finninsh easter treat. It looks like crap, but tastes heavenly :) )

How did the Dalek's get around? You know, for example if their prey ran up/downstairs, how did they follow?

[Drift] Classic question - it always used to be joked that if you wanted to escape a Dalek you should just run downstairs. Apparently Tom Baker (the best actor to play the Doctor) was often told this by children, and he would always react as if he'd never thought of it. But I do remember an episode from perhaps the early 1990s in the Colin Baker years when a Dalek is shown going downstairs by sort of hovering. So evidently they did think of that...

You're probably right Aaglo, I guess it's just one of those cultural barrier things.

The series made it to America atleast though. The PBS channel showed Doctor Who quite a bit while I was growing up, along with several good British comedies. Like Black Adder, Are You Being Served?, and Red Dwarf.

I have never ever heard of a Dalek before. ;-)
Looks like they drowned somewhere crossing the channel.
