i'm having a problem with corruption for my cities around my FP. does it make a difference if the cities are built by my Civ or captured from another?

I a recent game I had great placement for FP river, 3 game in forest squares. The surrounding cities had 50% corruption at best int he first ring:confused:

Is this an issue that was fixed by a patch?

No... in Conquests the FP reduces corruption throughout the empire, but doesn't create a second ring like how it does in Vanilla.

Well, it increases the.... Number of cities before corruption rises.... Or something..... I haven't played civ3 in so long, that coming back I've forgotten what everything's called.....

Optimal number of cities? Was that it?:crazyeye:

So placement doesnt really matter just build asap to make other cities more efficient? guess i never noticed as my FP was usually close to Palace -3rd ring away as it can be built after 10 cities

Placement does matter in that the city which it is built in will have much lower corruption, so the best place to built it would normally be a city with potentially high production which is currently suffering from corruption.

Optimal City Number (OCN) Once you have more cities than this, the corruption increases. The number itself depends on the map size and the difficulty level, and whether the civilization is commercial or not.

In C3C you'll have to put a court (even police station) in your FP city too to make it optimal wrt to waste and corruption. I can't recall doing that in vanilla (many years ago mind you).

Placement doesn't matter much in Conquests. You'll only need a courthouse in that city if you would regularly need or want one.

I much preferred the way the Forbidden Palace was handled in the basic game. Now, to reduce corruption, I work with the government control settings and make every building that I can think appropriate act as a courthouse to reduce corruption. I also try to make each city as productive as possible to limit the number that I build, so I also tamper with the per square yields of resources.

You know there is a corruption slider in the editor that can eliminate corruption or reduce it drastically. Just make your changes, set up a .biq and start from there each time. The folks in the Creation and Customization forum would help you with any further tweaks. Just do not post in an old thread there, they tend to be a tad unkind to thread necromancers.

Yes, but that means that the computer gets the benefits too, and I am a firm believer in never giving the computer an even break if I can help it. It gets enough benefits from my playing around with resource and tile yields as it is. The other problem is that to do any editing at all, I need to do it on my Windows box, as the Mac version of Complete does not have an editor, and the basic version editor that I have is one of the more quirky pieces of Mac software that I have encountered.

Oh, and it is nice to be back. I have also been playing around with Age of Empires 3.

normally i do need to add a courthouse to my FP but not police station.

Back which city to choose, what level of corruption is the break even point?
obviously picking a city at 90% corruption means too many turns but if the city has 50% or less is it worth using that city as FP? is the advantage of building FP faster worth what could be built vs a city with 60 or 70% which would have a far larger gain in production and commerce?

Any ideas?

Interesting Question. I usually go with something in the second or third ring--maybe 30% corrupt or so, so that it gets built in a reasonable amount of time. I think the improved civ-wide corruption outweighs the improvement in that one city. The only time that I would build it in a potentially productive, but 90% corrupt city, is if I have more leaders than I know what to do with. But I'd be interested in hearing what other people do.

I thought that I was the only retired 1st Lieutenant, albeit US Army, not Air Force in the forum. Interesting.

I carried a Reserve commission through most of my career. I retired as a Master Sergeant, then, 10 years later, the "30-year rule" kicked in, and I was allowed to assume the highest grade I had ever held. Although psychologically it's a step down from MSgt to 1Lt, the pay is better!

With FP, Court and police station, that city will have 0 corruption, just like the cap.

Generally, what I do with the FP is find my best overall city in my 2nd or 3rd ring, particularly in the direction I'm expanding, and build it there.
